So many places - I liked the Masdif Central going onto Cantal. The Gorges including the Tarn (less visited) and the Ardeche. Motorbiked around France many years ago and I think we slept on the beach at Banyuls. Some parts - the SW coast and up towards Nice are frighteningly expensive. A recall motorbiking down South from Le Mans and it was flat, straight and dull. I spend a lot of time in Brittany which is what it is, less 'continental' a little wet but quiet and rugged. First place I went to is Provence - good in the spring and autumn - quieter and cooler. And Paris - just has a great vibe. Much of it is a mood thing!

Exactly Dover. Should have explained that I worked in consumer protection for a few years. This does remind me of the illustrative story we told in those consumer days of the early 00s. The council are considering a new bus route and go knocking on doors. In the posh area, no wait a second, they wouldn't have a bus route in a posh area. In the working class area they knock on the door and get a punch in the face when they ask 'would you mind having a bus stop outside your house'. In the middle class area the householder mumbles. After the door has closed they compose a letter of complaint to the Guardian/Mail/Times etc. Fast forward and replace this with a 'community web site'.

Now if you posted "advice on good barbers" this would probably attract a few positive recommendations. As you are already getting. So in a spirit of good will I'll try not to post anything critical of organisations and businesses.

Wonderwoman, I'm not sure why we use this website to complain about traders, I am sure that I have slipped into this bad habit at times. Yonks ago I worked on garages - where there was a view that most workshops under the arches were dodgy. They are not. why not have a web site I suggested (this was pre-Google days)? Legal advice was that it is easy to defame, as the barber shop might think if they are reading this thread. It's a short leap from factual comment to insinuation. Since those days in the early 00s we do in deed have some great comparison sites out there. Google scores the barbers over 4 stars. You can read many of my good and bad reviews on beer in the evening (you'll need to go elsewhere to have good beer and food!). Where would holidays be without Tripadvisor where I look at both good and bad reviews. They are reasonably well controlled and traders have the right to respond

But not enough to kill 100s (or even yourself). Nasty stuff chlorine. Pilger is interesting in challenging 'fact'. I doubt very much that this time there will be an alternative explanation.

Invite the planning officer to view this from your perspective. We got plans changed from a large extension that overlooked us and a number of neighbours. The owners already had a plan B in their pocked so don't feel that we were Nimby's. The light pollution can be a pain at times as this is something that planning cannot control.

Explain the situation, ask for the money back. If they are playing hard ball either fire bomb the place (not recommended) or complain here. An open question why do people come on here before trying to sort things out first? I went to Luxembourg once. All their money looked the same. I gave the cabbie what I thought was a fiver or tenner, but it was more like ?50. He did not tell me and kept the change. Don't go to Luxembourg as they are all thieves. I got robbed by a major bike shop franchise who will not honour an out of date voucher. Don't shop there. We were in America and got overcharged in a convenience store. Being jet lagged I was a bit grumpy. They were incredibly apologetic. Do go to America as they are all honest. I'm sure that someone will point out my failings.

You're trying to seduce me - aren't you?

As others have pointed out Celtic manage it, Dortmund and many others. Man U were considering it yonks ago rather than having to extend their ground. I was at a crowded match in 1980 and the police (did the stewarding then) opened up the gates to move us to the less crowded side pens to ease the crush. Not rocket science. Having said that many I know in their 20s seem to have not desire to have standing. Seeing the small Liverpool contingent tonight I'd also raise the Away fan allocation. Last time I saw it unlimited was Wimbledon vs Leeds and they simply kept on opening additional blocks in the Arthur Waite as numbers swelled.

anyone know good car hire without added extras in Malaga airport
malumbu replied to Minitoots's topic in The Lounge
Most hire car companies have taken debit cards. Did some research yonks ago when it appeared kosher. But two didn't and I got stung, hence I have a Barclaycard that is only used to hire cars, about three or four times in a dozen car hires over the last few years. I have to try to remember the pin! Search Goldcar Guardian and there are loads more reports of dodgy dealings. -
I see that the authorities have not approved this in England. I occasionally peruse the BBC comments as they can be entertainingly rabid. The comments below from the BBC are well informed and put across my argument very well. I regularly attend away games where everyone stands. Several times I've nearly gone flying over seats when celebrating - it would be far safer to stand helped by the right infrastructure. Tragic disasters have been caused by human incompetence but the point is to root out the mistakes and learn. The cruise industry did not cease when Titanic sank. Modern safe standing is safe due to learning. What does ED reckon? Lots of safe standing at our local club and better still beer too! A permanent ground would help but that is another issue.

Shhh You'll give ammunition to others. Southwark has sent me a nice acknowledgment so I'll keep you all posted. I know how interested you find this! Other things I rant about - Ryanair, I already have a separate thread. Air quality - I've done quite a lot, but there are too many threads on this site. Damage to the cycle path on Rye Lane. Gave up some time ago as I couldn't get anything out of TfL and Southwark. Most of the damage is due to buses mounting the cycle path. Cycling in London as a whole - lots of threads here to get involved in. Elephant and Castle was a particular passion but they've magically improved the phasing. I do write thank you letters too. Life is too short to get involved in other causes. Oh Malumbu, you are such a consumer hero. And entertaining too.

Oh and I think they got me on you can't pay with debit card unless you upgrade your insurance. Don't understand why some (not all) hire car companies make a fuss about paying with debit card. -

DONT GO GOLDCAR NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO Looked much cheaper than other car hire companies in the arrivals hall but..... We went with Autoclick the next time (Xmas before last) arranged through Economy Car Rentals. Off airport - ten minute walk or a free mini bus. There are a cluster of rental places just down the airport road. I was worried about any damage that may already be on the car - it was in-doors and really difficult to get a good look. But all great - not the hour wait with Goldcar nor the silly fuel policy where you pay for a tank whether you use it or not. Here's some more https://www.theguardian.com/money/2011/feb/19/car-hire-holidaymakers-goldcar -
Ah you must be one of those rrrsss who couldn't give a fig about the rule of law, and endangering others. I'd hoped for some insight into how Southwark enforce parking. Here's a video you appeared on in the 70s. Sadly I couldn'd find another public information film, something to do with driving like a twot in fog, and the person knows the rules (don't walk on the grass) but ignores it. Anyway perhaps there may be a Southwark resident who does care.

The going home for the weekend song thread...come on you groovey foookers

Very relevant even if it does sound like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath -
Loads of cars parked on the double yellows on Rye Lane as usual. Three Southwark Parking Enforcement Officers. Are you going to do anything I ask? Oh we are just here with regards to waste collection. Can anyone enlighten me about what the point of them is? And do you care about your council tax being wasted? I'm picking my own fight with my local authority, Lewisham. Deterrents, priories, proportionality discretion etc. Not perfect but from what I saw tonight Southwark are taking the p. Any Councillors out there? I made a complaint before ranting on here, but would love to be better informed. Oh do stop ranting Malumbu

You lot are as useful as a chocolate tea pot. I'm old enough to remember when you got postal orders for birthday presents. Imagine if a five year old me had turned up at the post office to redeem my ten shillings and be told that the postal order had expired. Perhaps I should check my postage stamps to see if they are date stamped. I occasionally get vouchers from network rail as recompense and I have learned to check whether they are date stamped. But that is not me exchanging money for tokens, that is the company compensating me. I have M&S vouchers, they are not limited. I have a Nandos token for some reason, that is not time limited. I don't assume that there are terms and conditions (more savvy readers would have noticed my caveat emptor comment). So I have been robbed by the cycle shop of ?25. East Dulwich, when they kick at your front door how you going to come Obviously with your hand on your head, and not the trigger of your gun. A reference to kicking against the pricks, not the use of firearms before you get all uppity. Oh do shut up Malumbu.

Others may have dogs, or recordings/pictures of dogs, with words to the effect that entering is at your own risk. Perhaps those who are handy with knives could have similar warnings. (Not talking about the recent event, I'll judge that later.

This thread's got interesting at last. Thanks for the great quote "baseless hyperbole and red faced macho fury" (gives me an idea for the musical recommendation for the weekend), and Rendel for taking some flack aimed at me. Malumbu you are such an rrrrse I hear the rest of you say. I'd love to visit the Asylum pub some time and Bethlem/Bedlam hospital. Separately it always amused me that the Mr Men books translated into French have Mr Retard as Mr Slow. As for loonies, a term we threw around with gay abandon at school, I'm not sure how offensive it is. Noting that for around four decades Warner Brothers produced cartoons under the brand of Looney Tunes. Right I am off to bark at the moon with my good friend Ozzy. Oh Malumbu, you are so facetious.

After advising another poster to ask a local company 'nicely' to wave a fee I am now going to have a rant. Pot kettle black rearrange. I'm expecting some abuse! Anyway I get vouchers sometime which get put to one side and forgot about. Then I find and use. Apart from occasionally when I find they are out of date. Only some companies have a time limit and expect they profit very nicely (caveat emptor). I've asked the bicycle store franchise nicely to honour the vouchers and they've escalated but "no". I've ranted (by e-mail) that they are thieves and tempted to take stuff to the value and then let them and the authorities to decide whether I am a shop lifter. Any views?
-
Explain the situation, including expecting a text and ask that as a regular customer on this occasion whether they will not charge or reduce this as a sign of good will. I find that asking nicely often works.

Dear EDF. Please save your ranting until after decisions have been made by the Rozzers, CPS etc. If after that you are still angry then continue the debate, sign petitions, write to your MP/PM etc. You'll find it is good for your blood pressure if you save your views until then. Meanwhile for those of you who disagree with me there is always the Daily Mail web site where you can vent your anger. We're not bad a the rule of law in Blighty. Not perfect. By all means debate that.
