Now whilst I am not a friend of the black cabbies, they do tend to live in 'nicer' outer boroughs, and work better hours, compared to the long hour low hourly rates of Uber. I work in transport - trust me. Some consultants wouldn't get our of bed for an hours work, the equivalent of what some manual workers get paid in a day, Others would of course argue retrain and follow the money. Anyway not sure why you need to work a 12 hour day, I think we fought two world wars over this sort of thing! Worth a thread in its own right but more and more friends have their mobile phone permanently to hand when we go out, some happy to have Whatsapp conversations, check their e-mails, have conversations on EDF, or just browse. Doing me head in, worse than the kids. I sit at a screen all day, I don't need to be permanently on one.

Sad to hear of your experience - was it targeted or bad luck? Your bike may have ended up on Gumtree, which seems to be one of the main sources for selling on stolen bikes. What gets me is the brand loyalty (or perhaps it is simple familiarity), we have to have Pret's on either side of the street to save people having to cross the road. Voodoo Ray was a disaster when we went in the first week. Nowt wrong with a few teething problems but it was the shrug of the shoulders that got me, the long queues and the poor information on the menu (most things were off). Only stayed because it was half price. Anyway, trendy place, will be successful, what do I an old timer know? The taco place next to the pub is good, but not up market. My recent experience is that everything is booked well in advance. Of course the Peckham Levels is the place to be - so successful that they were running out of food on opening weeks (but far more forgivable than Voodoo) Bar story makes sense but don't think does food late, and the Brick Brewery is Ace but being refurbed I think and again doesn't do late food. I am known for jibes at LL expense but on this occasion justified. There is a separate question about lack of diversity in the restaurants in what still is a diverse area but that is for another thread.
