  1. PM if you know more.
  2. DeFrene fest at Sydenham Garden. Probably a bit too old for this but fun and cheap (and local) https://www.sydenhamgarden.org.uk/event/defrenefest18-summer-festival/
  3. It's done a runner! Local fox wasn't interested so no predators I expect. It was last seen a month ago in the same area so seems to be able to cope in the dry hot summer. I'll put a post up on the for sale.
  4. Yes it is not fit for purpose, as described, or causes injury. Nuff said. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Anyone want a terrapin? Sold as seen (no charge) so not covered under consumer legislation.
  5. on the pavement in the Horniman area, either lost of dumped. Please take home. RSPCA do not come out as they can survive in the wild. Earlier social local social network didn't find an owner. Don't give me advice, just take it (PM me for location).
  6. Come on ladies and gents. Even the who has a spare Saturday Guardian has more posts. This is a nice juicy one for you to get your teeth into. I wouldn't even mind if you want ranting on about Ben Stokes and the waste of government money. I doubt if we would have shaken hands with the lovely chap with his two broken bottles. Maybe he was from a broken family and it was a cry for help. Thanks John L - it sounds far more arbitrary in those days. The Oxfordshire constabulary probably thought that a bit of Saturday night violence was character building and 'rights of passage'
  7. In deed, the Consumer Rights Act takes the relevant parts of SOGA and consolidates them nicely with other aspects of consumer law such as unfair contracts and competition law. It now also defines a reasonable time to inspect goods - 30 days, which before was rather subjective. The retailer is responsible (which always annoys me where they blame the manufacturer). Don't use a credit card but there are also advantages here as you have extra protection due to the contract with the card provider. It is much nicer when the retailer simply refunds you, and therefore there is good will and this also helps with word of mouth recommendations. Main issue I have had is with Dixons/Currys, there are numerous other good companies out there eg John Lewis Partnership and Richer Sounds. This is my personal experience.
  8. Sale of Good Act, reverse burden of proof for the first six months ie they have to prove that the product was not faulty. If you feel ill it is faulty. Also covers describing things accurately but probably best for going for the faulty argument. End of. You can Google the exact wording of the Regs. (Another good thing from the EU eh?). You've also got distant selling regs too. Trading Standards do not take enquiries anymore so you will be redirected to CAB, who will tell you similar to me. Ultimately take them to court. But expect a stiff letter will do. I occasionally also post this as this can often have better results. Despite how I may come across I don't spend all my time complaining, but get peed of by retailers for being ignorant of consumer rights.
  9. Sorry for the facetious post but I always wonder why people use the sarcastic or passive aggressive tone in the title of a thread. It makes me want to say "it was a pleasure". Reminds me of the episode of Captain Pugwash where he sees a poster which has his picture and a "wanted for piracy". So he turns up at the authorities as he thinks that the poster is a job advert. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/richardswift90/captain-pugwash/ {before anyone starts most of the 'suggestive' characters are an urban myth). I see that there are other posts on this thread that are similarly of no value too!
  10. There are two Americas, one continues as normal, diplomacy, the rule of law etc. The other is Trump's. There will be relations between the UN, the Foreign Office, US Foreign policy and Counter-terrorism. I don't see the timing of this being suspicious. Others may.
  11. Just seen the Rees Mogg headline about a show trial, can#t be assed to read it but the point is right, and all a distraction from the general mire we are in (but perhaps indicative of this). To get on my soap box I hate what I believe has happened in the last couple of years with the polarisation of society and the move towards 'popularism' on both the left and right. We had a blip in the 90s with the lad and ladette culture but that didn't manifest itself in racism. On the contrary giving Bromley as an example I take great pleasure in amusing/cutting remarks about boring suburbia, monoculture, right wing, the chattering classes moving there for the school. But in reality it moved like most of the rest of society and has become more tolerant and multicultural (OK still small town violence at the weekend....) But was having this conversation with friends near Cambridge - intellectual liberal area, albeit not diverse.... What polarisation of society they said. Wonder which one of us was living in a bubble. Disclaimer, apologies for the discursive post.
  12. From time to time they do a suit with shorts. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jun/10/suits-with-shorts-trend-men-dandy-panic And here is a dapper gent from around 40 years ago, long brown socks, brown boots, what's not to like?
  13. Thoughtful thread Cat. I'm glad I waited until after the Last Leg to post. Boris set a trap and we fell for it. Just increasing his popularity among his core demographic, maybe picking up a few of the more traditional working class vote. As for the question - gammon similarly feels like we (or many of us) are falling into a similar trap of simply name calling against the Brexiteers and the like. Having said that I have been using 'angry of Tunbridge Wells' for years and this type of behaviour has long since parodied. Don't diss this thread.
  14. Not difficult to find info on line https://www.zap-map.com/pts/18dif3h/ And contact/lobby Southwark about on-street parking. Plenty of government money here https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/electric-cars There's so much information on line, better to do your research and then share with others rather than whinge on this site Mode shift, Zero emission cars, autonomous vehicles, and changes to ownership models are the future. You are the perfect demographic https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/724391/road-to-zero.pdf
  15. Nope I am after some sartorial advice. Some good postings.
  16. All the coverage of Ben Stokes' case (making no comment on the case itself) got me thinking Back in the mists of time two gatecrashers at a house party started a fight. One was picking on vulnerable people until someone stood up to him - who received a punch from his good citizenship. The other picked up two bottles, broke them underarm on the sink (clearly knew what he was doing) and scarpered by the time the bizzies arrived. One mate went off to A&E with cuts to his back, another badly beaten, and even in front of the police a third got a punch to the face. The reaction of the fuzz was that it was Saturday night and typical small market town and no action. No shortage of witnesses. So (a) have things changed over intervening decades (b) is this simply a different approach between Oxfordshire constabulary and Somerset and Avon police © large city vs small market town?
  17. Got me thinking of the fashion for trousers four inches off the shoe, and those mini socks which shows bare ankle. Hmmmm
  18. Yet another meaty thread ladies and gets. Is it appropriate for blokes to wear shorts in the office? They look so fetching on the posties, DHL delivery drivers and Thames Clipper clippies. And if so what style - colonial with turn ups, long socks and sandals, shirts tucked in? And colours - does salmon pink really fit in with the office? Finally the length, I thought tailored, with belt and well above the knee. Yet at a weekend festival most gents seemed to be in longer, baggy cargo pants, I thought were so mid 10s (fortunately not the horrid 3/4 length from the 00s). I'll leave swimwear for another thread.
  19. And? What is this about? Do you have views? Isn't this a forum for discussion and debate? Even twitter has more content. Can the smart phone generation actually spend any time on anything rather than flicking between channels, Youtube, buzzfeed whilst posting links etc.
  20. It's all gone very dull on the forum. Maybe everyone's on holiday. Anyway US taken sanctions against Russia for the chemical attack on the UK. Trump hasn't tweeted to protest so it all must be true. Stuff that up your pipes and smoke them you conspiracy theorists!
  21. Bit late I am afraid. I'd now consider walking through Dulwich Park to the Alleyn's Head. Better run than the sister pub the Dog. In the past the Dulwich Woodhouse (I'm stuck in the past when that was its name and it was a much better pub). Ditto for its sister pub the Clockhouse. And as I am a run of criticising makeovers and overpriced food I'd include the Rye Hotel in this bracket. An alternative walk would be Nunhead, where you could do the cemetery and then go onto the nearby Waverley or Ivy, or a bit further to the Old Nun's Head. The best walk would be over towards Brenchley Gardens, up and over One Tree Hill, down through Honor Oak, Possibly calling at the General Napier (rarely visited and not gastro) and then over to Blythe Hill, to the park and down to the Blythe Hill Tavern. You could head over towards Nunhead and then cut through to Honor Oak fields through Camberwell New Cemetery to the same destination or mix and match on the return.

    Football Focus

Excellent documentary on the artist in residence at a football club last season, in part shows what it is really all about (no Sky pundits or armchair fans) https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-football-club-artist-in-residence/episode-guide/

    Buy British

Nope, more of a case that Korea and Japan are successful economies with I expect a decent standard of living and still making competitive high end products, although I believe that a lot of Japanese companies now manufacture in China. Spose you could say similar about Germany, Sweden, France (although they box clever on protectionism and are perhaps coming a little unstuck).
