We had brill reception in Sydenham but much worse down the hill here. You can get boosters on internal aerials which should be good enough.

Roll back decimalisation too Exactly. I wrote to the BBC praising Planet Earth 2. Attenborough knew what he was doing by giving very cold temperatures in degrees Farenheit. It may not make any sense but it is a good British unit, and the American's love it too. And what's all this business about using base ten. What's wrong with good old fashioned 12, or 16. It's all a European conspiracy.

Hi Renata Two things that bother me. The state of the cycle path through Rye Lane. The road is too narrow, so buses often mount it and this has caused great damage. Southwark lob in tarmac from time to time, which comes off shortly afterwards. I have complained both to Southwark and TfL. Secondly parking enforcement on Rye Lane where the double yellow lines appear to signify 'park here'. This causes congestion, particularly to buses. I did write, and was given stats on enforcement - but from my own eyes this remains a big issue and to be honest many drivers don't give a monkeys. I have lost of other issues in life, but probably not relevant to a Southwark Councillor!

Probably be helpful if they did go up and/or reduced availability. First time buyers would then be a bigger influence on prices, rather than BTLs. Prices would drop, demand for rented accommodation would drop as houses would be more affordable and we'd have a massive correction to the market. Happy days or am I being simplistic.

If they go instantenously (not sure what burn out is) then it is probably a loose connection. The resistence may not be great enough to do a fuse, certainly not an old ceramic one. You are allowed to do most wiring in your house, certainly where you are not adding new stuff. The main exception is close to water ie bathroom and kitchen.

Carpet. The removal of carpets from most of our pubs (irrespective of how grotty they were) has accentuated the noise, as they are sound deadening.

Don't really get this soul boy stuff. He wasn't ever sold as this during the first 3/4 of his career. It was like the BBC had to have an excuse to keep him on. Craig Charles - he comes across as having far more soul. He was always out of touch. durenduren with a hard d (Duran Duran) and theme in black (rather than the Stranglers The Men in Black) being two incidents where he had no awareness of 'pop' music when he was on a pop radio station.

This is not questioning allegations against him. Please don't start. Simply I loathed him as a DJ in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and even now. Am I missing something? He's just always come over as a prat. Now that could be said about lots of other ex-Radio 1 Jocks. Smashy and Nicey in particular. But whilst they are amusing parody's and Mike Read's stance on Frankie/relax (and his rewriting of history) Blackburn just seems to go on and on, being found various slots on the network. I don't and wont listen to him, but was suprised to hear he now has a new slot.

When you say 'burn out' do you mean just 'blow'. If so a loose connection in your wiring. If you learned combined science at the age of 12 as I did you made metal peg boards where you strethced wires, had bulbs, batteries, and even made a fuse out of wire wool. Through this we found out about circuits. That's enough to do basic wiring. Google will help you test continuity using a test meter. Alternatively save all the faffing about looking for a loose connection and get an electrician in.

1. Complain to the place. They may have thought it harmless. You and most people think otherwise. By getting feedback they will learn and change. You did complain. Good stuff. There are times that I didn't and regret it. 2. Limit your details (bit late) as this makes people, including me, make facetious comments 3. Understand that whilst we have moved on, this is still seen as 'banter' by many who don't even think that they are being offensive. Just take a few black cab rides and drivers often make assumptions that you will agree with their rabid views (not all cabbies have rabid views by the way). I shudder when looking back on what I thought funny 30 years ago (again not supposed to be offensive) I shudder looking at some of what was considered progressive comedy from the 80s. I shudder at the 'lads culture' from the 90s promulgated by bands such as Oasis (literally get your tits out for the lads) I shudder at the thought of what Brexit will lead to in terms of equality etc and that rrrrrss over the pond I'm proud of the positive changes that I have seen in my lifetime, and hope the point above doesn't materialise. We are all better than that. Let's finish on a positive note!

casino/sunray avenue double glazing - council insisting on wood
malumbu replied to sarahsouthlondon's topic in The Lounge
PVC doesn't have an infinite shelf life, can deteriorate, can be fitted poorly. Wood ditto, but if you go the the right place it will last a long time, with limited maintenance. We had a hard wood window made by Oak Joinery in Lee. Installed it myself and painted it once eight years ago. It's brilliantly engineered and has seals in-built so close nice and tight. My other replacement windows by were some geezers in Kent, they rot, and shed paint. Do PM me if you want the recommendation. It will cost (the windows not me), but seriously it will enhance the house, and only need repainting every ten years or longer. Wood is pretty insulating too - you can get thin unit double glazing that makes it look original or the standard stuff if you are not in a conservation area. And it wont look naff. So people like me will pay more for your home. Admired the estate for years. -
606 is on Radio 5 (five live) where they talk about football matches Craft beer should be consigned to room 101, or at least the use of the term. Designer beer is a better term. I don't care about Ramones T shirts as I saw them a couple of times. I saw Joy Division too so I don't need the T shirt of Unnown Pleasures. I didn't see Bowie on his Ziggy tour or the Who at Leeds or the Beatles at Shay stadium or Stone Roses at that island so don't need T shirts of that either. East Dulwich Forum?? Damn, there goes my self-imposed exile.

Grovelling unreserved apology for not reading an earlier post properly and my misdirected assault. I deserve my on-line kicking and will crawl away and hide for a few days. I am too embarrassed to look at it again.

Here's a New Year's resolution, why not keep personal feuds away from a thread with a serious discussion. And let's not debate what I have just said. The US is clearly becoming la la land (whatever that may be). A nation that has typically being a bully is now out-bullied by its cousin to the East. Reminds me of Frankie's Two Tribes.

Any your an idiot too. How dare you criticise people working to look after your health and well-being. You are an even bigger hunt than Hunt.

He's a good bloke (Ivan Rogers) and all the coverage shows what a nasty piece of poo Farage is (an the ever more popular Redwood). Perhaps those voting leave can pay for all the extra resources needed to sort out this mess. Yes it is still personal. Here's some more stuff. Not vouching for the content. http://www.globalgovernmentforum.com/ripples-around-the-world-brexits-implications-for-europe-and-beyond/

Help. Nightmare neighbours. How do we deal with conflict?
malumbu replied to Hickory's topic in The Lounge
Wow. Lots of discussion but only one person has said report it the police. Find out your local community police officer. Report it and ask them to come over. They deal with this sort of thing all of the time. They do not take sides (unless it needs to be escalated) and may be able to point you in the right direction. They will not necessarily visit the other party - as this may not be the best way forward. I expect they wont come in uniform. I've been there by the way. -
Its a take on the Crucial 3 - Julian Cope, Ian McCulloch and Pete Wylie, but you'd have to be over 50 to probably get that one. None of the crucial 3 have managed football teams but Julian Cope is a druid and historian.

The Cheese Shop and adjoining Health Shop Lordship Lane
malumbu replied to Spangles30's topic in The Lounge
If there is a battle of the cheese shops will the loser be a cheese eating surrender monkey. Move away people, move on, nothing of interest on this thread, nothing to see. -
Am I allowed to say Uncleglen? or does that cross the political line. I think that I can say Farage drinking in my pub because he is an rrrssss irrespective of his politics. I'd have the Daily Mail in this except the loathsome publication would be a low point of every year. Can I have a highpoint? Hillsborough/justice. Although that could also be seen as a lowpoint of the last 30 years (ie that the authorities' cover up and the hatred expressed by some of the media)

Sorry just catching up on two weeks of footy. An open question - who is the best/most liked/least unwanted of the crucial three Mark Hughes, Big Fat Sam or Pulis?
-
Gosh. I've been away for a few days and missed lots of excitement. Whilst I don't always understand the discussion I do feel a little more enlightened. My economics is pretty minimal. I had unfettered free markets, freedom of movement and global trade beaten into me a few years ago when working sort of in this area. Then in 2008 I found that this was all wrong and we needed some controls and interventions on financial markets. I then looked into the case study of Harley Davison who should have been allowed to go the wall. But was more successful in being propped up by the US government than our shoddy motor industry (Harleys at the time were unwanted apart from the die hards and a generation behind the Japs). So we want to prop up uneconomic sectors again? And then I see the masses want improvements in quality of life, the latest X or Y, with lifestyle slickly sold to them, but there aren't enough people around to pick the fruit, make the coffee or clean the toilets. And whilst my modest savings stagnate others can get a loan with a guarantor at a rate just under 50% APR. Am I now oversimplifying things?
-
He's in my pub again. Just as I was leaving so I didn't get the chance to wish him happy Xmas. And happy Xmas to all of you out in East Dulwich land. May you live in interesting times.
-
Perhaps I being mean - it came across as "I voted out and in the subsequent mess there are winners as well as losers." A contact I had worked in reinsurance and made a mint out of the 08 recession. I'd hate to benefit from the misfortune of others.

Z, your initial post was a whinge. And now you have gone off at a tangent. For some reason precipitated by my use of the term chrimbo. Step back and see how others may view your posting. PErhaps everyone else is too polite, or probably not bothered. Complain to the Council, go to the Local Authority Ombudsman, write you your MP - and then come back to this site. I doubt whether the papers or Private Eye will be interested. Funnily enough I have been there. The planning system may be arbritary, subjective etc but that's the one we have. Looking at the planning disasters around my way sadly it happens. I got nowhere in trying to shame the planning officer/s.
