Yes in deed.

This is a great site but not sure how searchable http://www.classiccafes.co.uk/ I want to try the place on Herne Hill Road near to the taxi garage. Otherwise Forest Hill is pretty good.

Nobody interested in this. 12 of you advised on routes to the A1 (including me) but UK energy policy and becoming dependent on some questionable regimes (obviously the French) has no hits.

If they are left wing then perhaps they could express a view. First one would have been why stay in Europe (or why not) rather than tread the middle line.

How can I cross London to get to the A1 but avoiding congestion charge areas

A13 good choice. At least to sing to. But not sure if you go this route why you don't do the A12 instead. Careful with tunnels as they get bloomin blocked to easy. -

Alternative is to take the OK Road, the A road, the A13 It starts down in Wapping There ain't no stopping By-pass Barking and straight through Dagenham Down to Grays Thurrock And rather near Basildon Pitsea, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Leigh-On-Sea, Chalkwell, Prittlewell Southend's the end -

Straight through, Vauxhall Bridge, Victoria, Park Lane, A5 and then stick on that (or take another aterial road eg A41 Finchley Road) out to the North Circ. You can go the other way too via Tower Bridge, and then through Angel and Archway. Both will be busy during peak hours. -
I've ranted about the cycle lane before - even if it was bright orange I am sure that it wouldn't make a difference. But to be fair I've walked into other cycle lanes in the past as it doesn't seem to be in our culture, for example like Denmark and the Netherlands. As for the kink at the end, it is a pain and does't flow, but then nor does that daft contraflow/gyratory at the Elephant. My main point is that I've not seen any bother between cyclsts and pedestrians in Peckham beyond the odd middle class do-gooder campaigns about our speeds on the canal path. The only conflict I had was when another cyclist got so close to me I clipped a pedestrian - I was the only one bothered as I wished the other cyclist a nice day. Not. Given up on the damage. Road is too narrow so buses mount the cycle path. Raised it with Southwark but their reply was "am I bothered" I'd defend cyclists to the hilt but then realised that it seemed to be cool to wear black, on a black bike with no lights.

I was quite excited to hear that the East Dulwich Forum is going to manage a new nuclear power station in Somerset. I was involved in the previous attempt - a public inquiry granted permission for a British built power station based on an American design, where replication and reliability was going to bring down costs. This was going to be the second of the first series of four, starting at Sizewell under the then PM (RH Margaret Thatcher's) commitment to the nuclear industry and state electricity generation. Economy of scale didn't happen. She subsequently got hijacked by the 'let's burn all of our indigenous gas supply' instead as the easier option for closing down the coal mines. I see that East Dulwich has teamed with the Chinese on this though. It seems to be that you are bending over backwards with our current and recent governments to accommodate the interests of this rogue state. I'd be a little careful if I was you. Would you let your wife or servants do this? [There is a serious thread here by the way - (a) the failure to have an energy policy for the last 30 years (b) the dangers of leaving supply to the market © the loss of a generation of nuclear engineers and the capability to do this stuff ourself (d) impact on carbon emissions and climate change (e) getting into bed with a dangerous partner (f) the irony that the French state is engaged in a privatised sector - as of course they and the Germans do in UK transport too (f) failure of five prime ministers of both persuasions (g) coal and coal mining is pretty horrible stuff but the decline and some sort of future could have been properly managed] Let digression commence..........

Can some one explain what this is all about? Some sort of lets have a survey on all important issues. A sort of Mrs Merton (RIP Caroline)when she'd have a debate with her elderly audience. The latest one starts off with 'being proud about how we are handling Brexit' (it's on immmigration). There is nothing to be proud about in respect to Brexit, in fact nothing to be proud about my nation full stop on this. Just unsubscribed but thought that I'd share my rant with EDF. Perhaps I will be enlightened and change my opinion.

You still need industrial relations beit 2 people or 20 people and you have a right to organised laboour. There are some issues that need sorting my your own admission - 'stupid mistakes'. Unless it is a workers cooperative or similar it is still out to maximise profits for the benefits of the owners/shareholders. Even John Lewis has to do this. This isn't marxist claptrap but the free market. We are all replacable!

We donated the cat to vetenerary science (not spell checking this) and would do the same for my remains (medical science). Aunt died at 92 in the spring and we did a humanist ceremony ourselves. It was the most excellent of send offs.

Speak to your trade union. If you are not a member join one. If you don't have one you appear to be motivated enough to bring one in - and better still represent your c0-workers. Best way of resolving grievances. And if for some reason you can't or don't want to have a formal trade union ask HR about a staff/management group (an informal TU). It is not all about conflict brother/sister.

Why do you want to go into peoples houses? Surely much better texting, snapchatting, Facebooking or whatever. I am being ironic.

Lucky me. Been on holiday for a week so missed being tugged by the OB. They have done this in the past. Yes we are a bit naughty but in the scale of things it is pretty near the bottom. The Council people were out doing it the other day so I told them to be useful and stop the pedestrians aimlessly walking across the cycle lane. But at the end of the day it is not a bad route and I never witness any rancour between pedestrians and cyclists (more likely to get bike on bike). Now, I'd already started thinking about more pressing issues before looking at the post above. But why don't they do more useful things like... catch criminals.... of more relevant do a few fines for cyclists without lights. Ideally a warning first for idiots like me who at this time of year forget that the nights are drawing in. They could also do the buses for mounting the cycle lanes and the numerous double line parkers. And those idiots on quad bikes and motorbikes. And the people who bloke the path by the library selling stuff or doing God bothering. And every other miscreant whilst they are at it. This started as a gentle post and now I've become Angry of Mayfair. And I was so chilled after my hols too...

Don't usually take it out but boy have I been lucky - hiding scrapes and one time having to replace a tyre. Well known that this is a good source of revenue. Useful to hear of a separate policy Goldcar were in deed shysters. In Spain you had the choice of the usual suspects whose headline (but all inclusive) prices were high. Goldcar - the queue was well over an hour, and then they loaded me as well as that bloody daft you pay for all the fuel even though you use half of it. They are a regular source of complaints so this is not just me whinging. Also been stung by the "you need a credit card" or else you pay a lot more. 9/10 times it doesn't matter buy Goldcar and one other biggy were really fussy even though they accepted a debit card for the main payment, Buyer beware and if it seems too good to be true it is too good to be true!

Been trying to sell it for two years thanks. Put tenants in as otherwise I'd continue to pay council tax and the place would have got damp. There is only so much of a hit you can take. Surely some of you have kids going to Liverpool to study - here is a great chance to save on rent! It's a rather sad state of affairs. Some lovely housing stock but depopulation from the 70s coupled with loss of manufacturing has hit hard. Its still a lovely place but many of the middle classes rather than move to the equivalent of East Dulwich would rather move out to Cheshire or the Wirral. BTL and purpose built halls have saturated the student market. Not after a sympathy vote just explaining that outside of our London bubble the world can be very different.

Oh dear. Oh deary deary me. What is the world coming to. Obviously LL needs an adult education centre as gaol is the correct spelling rather than the American jail. I quite like the varient once used of gayhole. Some Irish chap wrote a wonderful poem calld the Ballad of Reading Gayhole at the end of the 19th century. Sorry I am getting a bit childish now. Apparently there is no strict convention of either spellings.

Thanks all. It just took me by surprise, having seen a wide range of tenants in the past. I used to deal with students years ago, having once been one myself I thought that I would know what to expect. Surprised at times, but many of the surprises were good ones. I hadn't expected this from a 'profesional' person with a kid who'd supplied all the references etc. As for tenancy agreements and 'quiet enjoyment' I always gave notice of visiting and 99% of the time this was fine. Ho hum.

Moved down from the NW many moons ago. Kept a terrace up there with a long term let to a family. Should have cashed in years ago. When vacated had to spend several grand on repairs and a refresh. Couldn't sell so let it through the Estate Agents who also managed the tenancy. Tenants did a runner a week ago leaving rubbish and lost of damage after only 5 months. What was the point of using an agent? Was the vetting carried out properly? Did they regularly inspect the property. Not getting much sense out of them. Be interested in hearing good and bad experiences of letting agents. Note this is not in London, rents are a quarter, hence agents have lower income and probably pay for lower caliber of staff. No abuse of BTL landlords please - I've had enough abuse from tenants!

All the young people use Uber. I use Datacars.

My dad drowned stray kittens in a sack. He said it was one of the most awful things he ever did. This was a time before animal charities newtered strays. He's long since departed and it was probably the most humane way he knew of - unless you break into a chemists and steal the chloroform. The first litter he found homes for. He once put a fork through a mouse nest in the compost heap kiling the mother by accident. He then forked through the babies explaining that they would die in any case. Me as a six year old wasn't traumatised. A different world then. I can just about stab slugs. Snails are easier as I try to teach them to fly.
