  1. Council have followed proper process. If you think otherwise you will have to make an application for a Judicial Review of the decision. The letter and links above look fairly thorough. You will need deep pockets for a JR, and if unsuccessful may be hit with costs. I've been involved with two JRs for two different councils. Following controversial planning decisions. One failed at JR and one was rejected at the application stage ie didn't go to hearing. Whilst both failed funnily enough the developer pulled out on both occasions. That's all my advice on Judicial Reviews.
  2. It sounds like they did listen and therefore they reduced the area. Timing is clearly aimed at those who either park to drop kids off or leave their car and commute from the station. Are you against the principle, or the way it has been announced. There are numerous threads on CPZs and other measures to encourage less driving, and it has been stated many times that a consultation is not a referendum. You talk about traveling to work. Most people in London use public transport. I am not sure why drivers need any special privileges.
  3. Anyone any experience? The Post Office stopped selling these this year, apparently some shops with Paypoint do but from the look of it none locally
  4. The parking is for school drop off. Schools should be discouraging this. As we all know much of the morning congestion is due to parents driving kids to school.
  5. I expect that storms do far more damage than heavy snow. I'm certainly not planning to go sledging at Hornimam gardens today. Some of us will recall the destruction of the massive storm in October 1987
  6. FTSE is steady near an all time high. The knocking Labour that is expected from the right wing rags seems to have become infectious. If I Was PM I'd just tell them all to FO. I'm far more interested in last night's Questiontime, and the arrogance of Farage (also could be applied to Johnson, Clarkson and others who do not answer questions, shoulder no blame and go into pantomime mode when put on the spot). So Mr Farage, Brexit has hit our economy badly. And he takes no blame, whilst he was happy to stir up anti-immigrant fervour following the Southport tragedy. I suggest you lay off Labour and focus on those that deserve our disgust.
  7. I heard about this before our last move over twenty years ago. And that it was generally not recommended. I may have better sources of information than many. I'm pretty sure that this was before most got their information on line, I was interested to know why many had taken this out.
  8. I went to Tooting Blood Centre tonight and most two wheelers were illegal ebikes delivering takeaways, all bar two had no lights. I don't normally present my subjective evidence, but hey others like to do so. Weather was evil and any sensible pedal cyclist would be home preparing themselves to watch Questiontime. Anyway following the silly consultation the last lot did on ebikes the relevant parliamentary committee came up with the following: PACTS recommends that the Government proceeds with earlier proposals presented by Transport Minister Baroness Vere, in May 2022, and creates a new low-speed zero-emissions vehicle category. That more considered approach would enable appropriate regulations to be drawn up for the manufacture and use of a range of new vehicles. These may include those which are purely electric powered and low speed, possibly, but not limited, to the form of a pedal cycle providing means for able and less-abled people to travel with or without cargo. But the last government ignored this and don't know Starmer's views. I may write to Ellie on the subject.
  9. Not sure what point you are making I have long since been aware of the issues, and would never have gone for it. Maybe it cannot be applied without capturing damp. I question why government part funded it. But I also question why individuals did not do their own research. This took me five second, it took longer to cut and paste it here: Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors The RICS advises homeowners to get independent advice from a qualified professional who is not affiliated with the installer or manufacturer. They also recommend not installing spray foam in listed or protected buildings without prior consent. Property Care Association The PCA recommends that homeowners carry out appropriate checks to determine if spray foam is suitable for their roof. They also created a protocol for surveyors and lenders to make informed decisions about properties with spray foam insulation. HomeOwners Alliance The HomeOwners Alliance recommends that homeowners avoid installing spray foam roof insulation.
  10. Talking about another local authority planning officers, they were very helpful for both those wanting to extend, and those possibly objecting, in years gone by. Often their is a compromise that both parties will be reasonably happy with and/or will more likely get approved. Back to the value of getting on with those who may be affected. I'm not sure how well resourced Southwark are, and whether they will actually come out as they may have done in the past. I expect that numbers of planning officers have been cut over recent years as local authorities tighten their belts. I used to be active in objections to developments, starting with the plans for the multiplex at the old Crystal Palace, which the developer pulled out of in 2001. I consider a lot of residential developments are ugly, not improving the streetscape, and sometimes too damn large. I've long since stopped getting bothered, in any case regulations are far more liberal nowadays. I only object every few years or so, with the hope that it is considered at planning committee. I'm sure that your plans don't lead to any of the above issues, but I don't know where you live and rest assured I wont be getting involved! There's a story for the pub another time, it involved a local website (not this one) and got very acrimonious. South London Press get involved, and the police. The internet never forgets. Not sharing any other information but I'll say a bit more via PM/DM if anyone is intrigued. Have to be careful!
  11. Google maps/directions should tell you, or other route mapping systems using live data.
  12. It's where the cycle track comes inside parked cars. Go have a look yourself. Did the route west (funnily enough sign saying it was shut) and east today. The wands give you reasonable distance between the doors of parked cars. If you need speed bumps for cyclists have them bespoke rather than the large ones for cars. There were a couple of places where there is slight conflict with pedestrians. Whilst very happy to give way, pedestrians have a responsibility for looking when they are crossing. All of us cyclists have had experience of pedestrians just crossing a road without looking. And I've had to learn the hard way as a pedestrian to do this myself rather than relying on listening, As many of us will have realised when visiting the Netherlands. Overall it's a good move I'm more concerned about the street parking in the area, most of the houses have ample off street parking, is this school staff from Dulwich College? Do they not have their own parking? Kingsdale seems to. And as DC is great at encouraging students to cycle or to be coached in, does the same not apply to their staff? Could Dulwich estates have a CPZ there, and/or Southwark/Lambeth??
  13. This has been around for decades and is advertised as saving your rickety old roof as a fraction of the cost of replacing it. It has also been known for decades that it can trap moisture and harm the fabric of your building. Does anyone have any? The last administration seems to have c'cked things up https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c86qz9g59v4o I would have debated this on BBC HYS but there is not an opportunity to comment on the above story.
  14. There are no LTNs in Forest Hill, nor any changes to traffic management in recent years. Daft to blame congestion on LTNs. Congestion is of course due to too many vehicles on the road. I first visited London as a child and it was congested. Many years ago when I used to drive occasionally around or through London with my job it was congested. Sadly, like East Dulwich, Forest Hill, sometimes had bad congestion. Road works, utility works and the like. As does everywhere in London. Granted, that Thames Water's troubles maintaining their network seems to be worsening. I've posted before, Southwark preventing traffic turning right onto the south circ from wood vale/Underwood pushed traffic onto Honor Oak Road and was a bad move. Ask anyone with kids at Fairlawn.
  15. I would have been happy with a bus every 8 minutes when I was growing up. I've never done the 40 but like most of the other routes in the area. I posted about my favourite routes and was very excited about the increase of e buses. Not a fan of the new routemaster, poor design and an experience indulgence by our last Mayor. For balance the bendy buses are fine, just not in towns and cities with ancient street plans
  16. In deed, I have made the same point multiple times and consider this is far more worthy of discussion than those out to get push bikes. The last government consulted on increasing the power of (legal) e-bikes, I posted a thread but it got no interest. Here's the February consultation : https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/smarter-regulation-proposed-changes-to-legislation-for-electrically-assisted-pedal-cycles/smarter-regulation-proposed-changes-to-legislation-for-electrically-assisted-pedal-cycles I'm not aware of any outcome and expect it has been shelved due to the then impending GE. Here's an interesting article criticising the consultation and who on earth had the bright idea, worthy of a proper read. https://www.cyclingelectric.com/in-depth/500w-e-bike-consultation-update I think that this is an interesting and more substantial issue than much of the repetitive stuff that goes on this forum. I particularly consider that this and the last government have (a) dodged the issue of illegal e-bikes and e-scooters (and on this subject I would happily send such vehicles down to the scrap yard if caught on the road - as WMP did a few years ago https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-57912306 And whilst governments hate telling people what to do I think this is worthy of an information campaign Here's a link I thought I'd never post https://www.gbnews.com/lifestyle/cars/electric-bikes-london-safety-sadiq-khan-action But away from that rabid newsource it is reported, oddly enough back to the West Midlands not London that Mayor Khan has issued a warning: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/drivers-two-types-vehicle-london-113218440.html Finally the issue that really perturbs me is the rise in illegal ebikes for deliveries, particularly food deliveries. Two ways of addressing this Government should stop being mates with Deliveroo etc, the last lot were far too friendly, and compel them to employ their riders, provide road legal delivery bikes, ensure that they used lights and were properly trained. And this would cost you more for your takeaways/deliveries And we should stop using these companies - I never do. Look to companies like pedal me, and I believe Yard Sale pizza who seem to do things properly. Anyone who complains about dodgy delivery/Deliveroo type companies is a hypocrite if they then use them Oh and talking about toadying up to big business we have the obesity/type 2 diabetes explosion to also consider So there is plenty to get your teeth into there, teeth? Get it! I've still got it!!
  17. Water mains had gone outside Sainsbury's so could cause gridlock.
  18. I was hearing this dreadful story about a senior gentleman who has just bought an ebike, and is terrifying the locals in a village in Borchestershire, I understand that this is somewhere between Worcestershire and Warwickshire. Although the bike has a speed limit on it, I understand that the gent was freewheeling and even overtaking cars. The local speedwatch people are very concerned. I expect that this will run on and on (no pun intended), there is a local copper living in the village who rightly and wrongly always gets involved in village problems. I I've also heard that some farmers in the area aren't wearing helmets when tending to their fields. And we worry in London about cyclists?? Post script. I had assumed that at Borchester was the county town it would be Borchestershire, but I've been corrected it is Borsetshire.
  19. Don't know about the process but suggest getting your neighbours on board regards your conversion, which will reduce the liklihood of objections and do listen to them if they have alternative suggestions.
  20. If the cap fits....
  21. Police will not prosecute children cycling on pavements. They also take a sensible/proportionate response to others in particular where roads are particularly hazardous. There is some guidance to police forces I am reliably informed. If you would like a more draconian approach then write to the Home Secretary. Probably better use of your time than social media.
  22. Surely if you are objecting to active travel measures you do not support active travel and all the benefits that this provides the individual and society. A sweeping statement to follow your sweeping statement 😊
  23. More details please, do you want to make, or defend, a claim. What is the claim about? Often solicitors will charge more than you will gain
  24. If things are a bit crazy in the UK this is nothing compared to the States. The radio 4 show Dead Ringers still does a good job of lampooning politicians, the sketch with our national treasures getting position under Trump was classic, for example Ian McKellen was given head of Middle Earth.
