This is what is happening on other threads, in particular anything to do with active travel. Not sure why this forum has become so polarised.

Think this is a business, ambush marketing. Why not I suppose 😊

AHH it's been a really difficult season for growing trees, there is bound to be a shortage. Too much rain, too much snow, too cold, too warm, too dry. That will explain the high costs. Well that is what they say every year. They are already out in car parks and the like. Local schools do them as well. We will get our Lidl one out in a couple of weeks or so from the garden. Remember a 🎄 is not just for Christmas

County Court proceedings should be able to be handled without legal advice. There should be guidance from the courts service about what to do if you have a summons served on you - EX303. If you defend it then you will no doubt have good reason to do so which district judge will consider. Six years sounds a long time ago and I am surprised that you could still be liable after this time. Citizens Advice will help, you will have to queue in person or on the phone as they are not as well resourced as in the past. Law Centres may be able to help too. https://waterlooactioncentre.co.uk/

White Jaguar XE 2.0 taking photos

Ask him politely if you can help him. I remember staring at my old flat. Can I help you a neighbour asked. Yes I said, I had seen that they have split it into two flats. And we had a chat about it. Edited to add - if they are doing this in plain site then it sounds harmless, but it would be good manners to knock on your door. In our area there is someone well known on X that walks up and down taking pictures of anything out of the ordinary, often quite trivial, supposedly for laughs. I could speculate who the owner could be, a creative or a gangster, but that would not be appropriate! -
Beeb article concludes that she will stay. My issue is not putting up fuel duty. Not looking at the YouTube vids, someone will have to summarise. Are they as toxic as GB news, all woke this, snowflake the other?

Should cyclists have the same speed restrictions as motor vehicles?

I find it as tedious as most of the rest of you. -

malumbu replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
Slurs and digs are unhelpful. Yes cyclists over a certain age, say 12, should generally not ride on pavements. Yes cyclists should avoid harming pedestrians. Yes adults riding on pavements, and adults letting older children ride on pavements are generally in the wrong. So perhaps you could agree that politicians will not introduce registration/licensing of bikes and riders, as the last administration confirmed. And you could agree with the national statistics that drivers cause far more harm than cyclists. At that point the discussion will hopefully be exhausted. -
Should cyclists have the same speed restrictions as motor vehicles?
malumbu replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
I'm saying in terms of harm it's very low. 40,000 people a year have medical attention due to power tools. A licensing scheme for owning and operating an electric drill would save far more money to the NHS than registering/licensing cyclists. But imagine the accusations of nanny state if any government restricted use of power tools for DIY -
Lazy just posting links without saying why. So I wont be looking at them. Just feels like some of you are on the anti Labour bandwagon.

malumbu replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
Around 400 pedestrians are injured each year following a collision with a cyclists, most are on the carriageway. There is as far as I am aware no data on how often the cyclist was at fault. Compare this with 30,000 killed or seriously injured on our roads, and around 5 times this for all injuries. Around 6500 pedestrians are killed or seriously injured each year, so the vast majority involve a car, motorbike, lorry or bus. I really don't understand this obsession with cyclists, beyond some people's issue with attempts to make our roads safer including promoting active travel with its multiple benefit. I am repeating what I have said numerous times. -
Listening to Radio 4 looking back on Prescott. Couldn't find a video of Spitting Image when they had Prescott in a boiler suit and Blair like a schoolboy but this clip based in Supergrass is fun

Mythical weekend rail service - East Dulwich
malumbu replied to JRDulwich's topic in Roads & Transport
Nope that was just a chant. We who detested her called her Thatcher. Those who liked he called her Mrs Thatcher. Her very close friends in parliament called her Margaret. Please don't rewrite history! -
What did the last lot do? Cost of postage has gone up well above inflation for years. This thread does feel like Labour bashing and in particular knocking the PM and Chancellor. You didn't see the Telegraph, Mail and Express knocking 14 years of incompetence by the last lot, in particular the unnecessary programme of austerity that led to the massive decline in public services, the silly idea to have a referendum on leaving the EU and the worst of the lot not borrowing to underpin growth when interest rates at an all time low. It feels like many of you have drunk in everything the aforementioned papers print.

Surely you have fantasised about teaching people a lesson. The potato in the exhaust is a bit of an urban myth, but here is what may happen https://carfromjapan.com/article/car-maintenance/a-potato-is-stuffed-in-a-car-exhaust-pipe/ -
Driver smashes traffic light in Dulwich Village
malumbu replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in Roads & Transport
Because most collisions involving drivers are due to driver error. That is a fact. Therefore the probability is very high that in this case it was due to driver error. And as stated if you do a runner, there is also a high probability that you have done something very wrong. And similarly highly likely if you get caught you will be banned. And in Lee Hughes case he got a six years prison sentence. I have given the stats on cyclists going to court. Prosecutions happen but on a far lower number than drivers. The likelihood of harm to the individual from poor cycling to humans and to property etc are much lower due to physics. That is why society focuses on bad driving. That does not excuse bad cycling. I've thought about 'accidents'. My only no blame collision is when a deer ran out in front of me whilst driving and a cat whilst cycling - I came off worse in the latter and was quite upset about the former. As it was a black cat I assume that I had upset a witch, I've also had a pigeon and a bat (really? I thought they had such good radar) hit me whilst cycling but that resulted in no harm. Perhaps a bit of satellite coming to ground or a meteorite would be classed as a no fault incident. Can't think of any no fault collisions other than these. -

Driver smashes traffic light in Dulwich Village

If you have crashed a car and then run away then if you are caught in all likeliness you will get a ban which you will most likely deserve. That is what most people will think. Why can we not express an opinion? -

Yes, they thanked me for pointing out the errors of their ways and agreed never to do it again. Or maybe not. There was also two scenes when I asked drivers to turn their engines off when sitting idling by Peckham Rye. I wont recount the tale but they did not appreciate my request. I've long since given up. My experience was similar to Nigel Havers, "go forth and multiply". https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p04qrnh6 I also used to fantasise about putting a potato in the exhaust. Gone are the days when you could kill the occupants through carbon monoxide poisoning as the levels are relatively low. Not oxides of nitrogen though. -

Ah, Pete, but you don't understand the antipathy towards Southwark Labour councillors! It's highly likely that there was nefarious activity, alcohol/drugs and/or poor driving. Reminds me of the footballer Lee Hughes doing a runner after a fatal clash - most likely to avoid a drugs and booze test. That's what I think but I won't be called as a witness -

malumbu replied to tedfudge's topic in Roads & Transport
Who cares. In 2023, 39 people were convicted for careless or inconsiderate cycling, six people were convicted for dangerous cycling, and three people were convicted for cycling under the influence of drink or drugs. Compare this to16,406 reported cycling accidents in the UK, 91 reported fatalities, 4,056 serious injuries, and 11,546 slight injuries. More anti-cycling rhetoric I'm afraid. Cyclists suffer far more harm from other road users than they cause. -

In the past I've asked cops to turn of their engines. Even telling them that they could be prosecuted, both by the local authority and the police had no influence. -
Police presence in Crystal Palace road
malumbu replied to Chicken's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Apparently the police took a call from a certain C Little. I understand that it was difficult to hear the exact name as there was a lot of clucking in the background. Various farm animals are helping with enquiries, worryingly a few foxes have been seen on the prowl so this may not end well. I say police protection for C Little, now. Eagles and seagulls have also been seen on large numbers in the area. I'd keep away as it could be carnage. Certainly watch your ice cream cornets and perhaps wear ear plugs. Not sure if this is anything to do with the local authority or the Labour government, no doubt someone will find a link. -

Apparently it always happens when Crystal Palace Road plays the Brighton Road. Triuble goes back to the 70s I understand.....
