After the situation in Palestine deteriorated there was a concern about Jewish communities in London being subject to hate crime. BBC London had a crew in East London to interview the local community about this. In camera two guys in orthodox gear cycled along the pavement. The presenter said nothing, nobody walking on the pavement was bothered. The article continued, moving to speaking with people about community tensions. My point? Two cyclists were on the pavement. They shouldn't have been. But in the great scheme of things it was trivial compared to events in Israel and Palestine. Hence my continued point about a mild irritant not deserving the rancour from a small number of you.

My only collision between a bike and a pedestrian is when I ran out into the road in Westminster without looking. The bike caught my hand, I apologised and the rider said no worries. Very different if it had been the other way round where I may have used choice language. On the opposite I have had numerous times when pedestrians have walked out on me without looking, I'm now far more aware of pedestrians on their phones etc, but the first times were before mobiles let alone smart phones when I worked off Fleet Street, or I'd cycle down Oxford Street. I sense that some of you want conflict to happen so you can then post about it to support your anti-cyclist views. Me? Pavement cycling when pedestrians are on it is a nuisance. If someone wants to scoot through a red light it doesn't bother me, if they cycle when I am crossing the road on my green light then that is out of order. But I wouldn't feel angry enough it to go on a mission. I'm far more angry about those speeding on Perry Vale, particularly when the school kids were leaving, and those parking outside the schools on double yellows. Hats off to Southwark, that unlike Lewisham, have a much better policy including school wardens. And Lambeth, is even better. Bromley have a compulsory 40mph outside schools for their residents.

Perhaps some of you are unaware of the damage that the coalition did to our economy through their unnecessary programme that f'cked public services and led to a massive drop in real term pay across the public sector. Or maybe your teachers, doctors, nurses do not deserve a decent wage. Quite shocking if you are into this American way of thinking.

Helping a family friend. Fireplace and fire breast removed leaving the rectangular base of the hearth. Reasonably flush with exposed wooden floorboards. Anyone have this in their gaff? Simple thing would be to paint it with brown floor paint, other options are jazzy Victorian self adhesive vinyl tiles or put some quarry tiles on it. Latter two both a feature but not sure a raised surface works. Place came like this. I'd be happier with an original Victorian fireplace.

I doubt if this conversation has moved on one iota in the last few years. If you collectively feel so strongly that Southwark has not followed proper process then you have a complaints procedure and ultimately judicial review. The ballot box indicates that the masses weren't concerned enough on transport policy to put another government, and other councillors in. You can say till your blue in the face that a monkey (thinking of Hartlepool) could have stood as a Labour candidate and still got in, but it doesn't change things. It is what they said in the newspaper. Have a go at them, the police, the media and everyone else you consider woke who uses this term. I've posted the above question many times over the years and a number of you refused to get into any debate. I get it that you don't like the ULEZ, LTNs, CPZs but driving is a lifestyle. You should be prepared to have alternative options, or just say that you don't want any restrictions. Here's some arguments you can use - not for government to tell us what to do, I can't make a change on my own without everyone doing similar, deaths from air quality and road traffic collisions aren't that high and don't justify measures, it will hit my pocket and national growth, nationally we can't do it all on our own if the big polluters don't do similar, last two are Farages arguments, and technology will sort everything out ,(Trump). You could also argue that we have passed the tipping point on damage to the environment so we may as well keep playing our fiddle whilst Rome and the world burn.

Why the personal comment? I do bugger all driving, occasional holiday, very occasional shopping. Nothing leisure or work, all by foot, bike or public transport. Like virtually alI of us i could do more on all aspects of lifestyle but that is for a different thread. I can also look back on my unenlightened past. I know people who went to school with Faridge, where that is how his name was pronounced. It amuses me that he has adopted the French soft g. So the question is what should we be doing not what am I doing. Fuel duty/motoring taxes overhaul still seems to be some way off so meanwhile local authorities have to do government's job.

The Climate Change Committee report that we are missing our carbon targets. What are the alternative proposals from those that oppose measures that should help reduce the number of car journeys? Asking people nicely doesn't work. The car manufacturers want us to super size our cars then bleat on that targets on EVs are unfair. Carbon reduction targets are set in law that all the main parties but one support. The alternative is Faridge (the name is pronounced with a hard g, not the soft g as he pronounces it) and co who would ditch net zero. Just be honest if that is your view

Great suggestion for letting the environment recover. We tried the biblical plague but that didn't work. Not sure if holding your breath is a solution to over-population, pollution, species extinctions and loss of diversity, erosion of the earth's crust, increase in climate change gases, extreme weather events, melting of glaciers and land ice, warming of the oceans, changes in currents, and perturbations of the atmosphere and natural environment, but we could give it a go. Council have followed proper process. If you think otherwise you will have to make an application for a Judicial Review of the decision. The letter and links above look fairly thorough. You will need deep pockets for a JR, and if unsuccessful may be hit with costs. I've been involved with two JRs for two different councils. Following controversial planning decisions. One failed at JR and one was rejected at the application stage ie didn't go to hearing. Whilst both failed funnily enough the developer pulled out on both occasions. That's all my advice on Judicial Reviews.

It sounds like they did listen and therefore they reduced the area. Timing is clearly aimed at those who either park to drop kids off or leave their car and commute from the station. Are you against the principle, or the way it has been announced. There are numerous threads on CPZs and other measures to encourage less driving, and it has been stated many times that a consultation is not a referendum. You talk about traveling to work. Most people in London use public transport. I am not sure why drivers need any special privileges.

The parking is for school drop off. Schools should be discouraging this. As we all know much of the morning congestion is due to parents driving kids to school.

I suggest you lay off Labour and focus on those that deserve our disgust.
