  1. "oh but wait... there's nothing in it for them - a big whopping 0% commission" Do people really think that the agents don't get their commission? Surely the only difference is that head office pays it rather than the seller? I can't see them persuading people to work in the new ED office by telling them they can't earn any commission for the first 3 months! Maybe people have to come to terms with the fact that the mixture of it being the run up to Xmas and the financial markets being in turmoil over the recent credit crunch has led to buyers not being interested for the time being?
  2. I got married then when it was still Belair House and it was beautiful. Unfortunately the new owner has installed orange floors, garish furniture and a video screen in the bar so I'm not sure I'd have my wedding there now....
  3. The 0% received for the Uplands is quite telling. I remember when I first moved to the area and the Uplands was the only pub that had had a lick of paint and was worth drinking in. How things change.
  4. fair point - how many votes have been cast though?
  5. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Well The Castle has had a couple of votes, is that > a cheat? Sorry - wasn't really suggesting "cheating" as such. I just suspect that a) there's a lot of CPT fans on this forum (I almost get the impressions from some posts that the forum is just a way for some regulars to chat when they're not in the pub) b) that those mentioned above have made an effort to get votes cast for the CPT So - not cheating, but perhaps a bit like the time that the BBC had to discard all internet votes for sports personality of the year as Justin Fashanu looked like being the winner :)
  6. Whilst the CPT is a very friendly pub I think the number of votes it has received so far might suggested some coordinated voting! Best bar in ED? mmmm.
  7. ah well - guess it was always likely to struggle in that location. Can always go to the main restaurant on Rupert Street.
  8. we bought sweets and had no visitors - would have enjoyed chasing egg throwers down the road :(
  9. I'm afraid the paint is fairly knackered. Tins are rusting and bits of rust in the paint etc.
  10. cheers guys, cans are all full so that paint disposal place sounds the ticket - or your skip peckhamasbestos if you just give me the address?
  11. Hi I have some old paint left when I moved into my house I'd like to get rid of. Pretty sure I'm not allowed to put in normal trash because of environmental hazard etc (although I have heard if I leave the paint to dry out I may be able to?). Where is the nearest refuse site I can take this stuff to? thanks
  12. Our house has been underpinned and as mentioned above, Halifax are by far the best quote we get (still not cheap tho!)
  13. -- moved topic --
  14. No such problem at the CPT - we had a table where we had views of 2 screens. However, after 5 mins we were too excited to sit!
  15. Good call on the CPT, plenty of space to watch the game and a pretty good atmosphere. However on the downside, there seemed to be a shortage of beer? All off other than Strongbow, Speckled Hen or one lager (not sure which). Poor planning surely for what was always going to be a busy night. Also, not be then for a while and it looks even more run down inside now, I s'pse some people might call that "charm". Headed to the EDT later for post match celebrating - what a top game/night!
  16. Mrshamilton On the 5000/1 chance that you are being straight with us, I recommend you contact the admin with something to backup your claims that you don't work there, otherwise you will really do OS's reputation some damage! *evil thought enters* Hmm - maybe Msrhamilton works for Foxtons and this is a cunning double bluff....
  17. hee hee - this is brilliant. That last pitiful attempt to get out of it just made it even better. Can we have a vote for thread of the year please Admin?
  18. are there big screens or just lots of them? (been a while since I've been there)
  19. sounds like I'll be at the CPT as well then - will make sure not to wear pink....
  20. I thought the left hand (as facing the bar) bit could have a big screen in it too?
  21. Anybody been to watch any of the other rugby games there? Going this Saturday and wondered how many big screens they are using? Will they have the big screens both sides of the bar? Don't mind it being rammed as long as I can see the game!
  22. ahem - I'd recommend Willis B - my wife sent me there for my last cut and I was most impressed... Think I may be able to imagine where the comment about the receptionist came from. I think she may be a bit of a day dreamer :) Was friendly once she was paying attention though ...
  23. The many many other estate agents threads on this site, particularly those detailing Foxtons marketing bumph, made me think of starting a thread of amusing and misleading quotes from estate agents trying to make properties sounds perfect... This, from a recently advertised house details in ED .... Impressive (if impossible) location for a house. Seen any others like this out there?
  24. Masts can be seen in http://www.ononemap.com also....
  25. No such luck - spotted the first one on our road last night. and *shock horror* it was parked blocking on of the disabled ramps at the end of the road! Where's a traffic warden when you want one....
