Mockney, the mercenary thing does piss me off also, but there are foriegn players that do have a love for the club they have played for, Bergkamp is a good example. There those that have a disgraceful attitude to the game, but they are not all foreign mercenaries. Fat Frank Lampard is a case in point as is Cashley Hole. People like that make my blood boil, and they are English. Does that make them more despicable and worthy of our loathing than the foreigners? I would say so.

I haven't and wouldn't say Henry's heart was/is at the Arse. It;s not the point. He was better than any English striker on offer. End of story. Or do you advocate taking on the likes of Heskey as a replacment, just because he is English?? I rest my case. Football is about opinions, I have mine and will not be swayed. We are to blame for having average players, not foreign coaches, players , managers etc. The sooner we wake up and realise that, we might get to where you and Jah want to be. Don't get me wrong I'm all for having good English players in the prem, but we just haven't got many at the moment. If fact we've got very few. That's all down to coaching at grass roots. Period.

John Lydon has turned into a panto dame, or one of the ugly sisters from Cinders!! I can't take the guy seriously, this bloke was lambasting everything and everyone and now he lives in LA LA land!!! Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!! -
Sorry Jah, we will have to agree to disagree on this point. I don't see why Le Boss should field English players just because they are English, especially if he doesn't think they are good enough to play for us. The England team since 1966 has been at best average on the international/world scene. This makes the argument that foreigners are bad for the English game null and void.Foreign players have been over here in large numbers for the past 10 years, and not since 1966 onwards. Bearing that in mind, it would seem to me that this argument is wrong and is just a way of deflecting the blame for Englands poor showing.

Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Atila, I agree with all you say there about the > grass roots of the game but coming from someone > who supports Arsene Wenger's Foreign Legion is a > bit much. Sorry Jah you're missing the point. If we as a nation can't produce decent players, we shouldn't look to point the finger of blame elsewhere. The problem of teaching kids at grass roots to play properly is ours, not Arsene Wengers. Also Spuds have quite a few foreigners, albeit not as good as those imported by Le Boss.>:D<

The whole debate about all things foreign being detremental to the premiership is crap espoused by people who are looking for easy scapegoats. If we started at grass roots level to teach our kids about technique, skill, touch, and ball control, this debate would soon end. Once the authorities recognise that they do not put enough money and resource into teaching kids how to play properly as the French, Spanish, and the Dutch, we may have a good crop of players in 10 to 15 years time. Until that day, I can't see it myself, we will still rely on overseas players. Why? Because they are better than what we have here and less expensive. End of story. We in this country are still banging on about the physical side of the game, which has got us precisely nowhere in the international arena.

Thank you I'm pleased with the result, not because I predicted it, but because we won, and Mark Lawrenson predicted a 1 - 1 draw. TWAT!!!I can't stand the guy!! I thought we played within ourselves ( whatever that means!!) It would have been nice to have run up a cricket score, but with the whole Reading side camped behind the ball in their own half, it wasn't going to be easy to achieve it. Roll on the international break ( YAWN!!!!!)

I can well believe it Mockney. Until we can get our own house in order, we shouldn't look to denegrade what our foreign imports have done for the game over here.

International footy leaves me cold, doesn't excite me like league football at all, but I think the Scots have a chance to qualify, at least their fate is in their hand unlike England ( surprise, surprise) who have to rely on other results giong their way no matter what the outcome of their games. On a completely different note, I'm getting very tired of the sad and lame excuse that some managers seem to trot out regarding the lack of english players in premiership sides. The problem doesn't lie with foreign coaches or managers but with the way football is taught at grass root levels to children. I have had many years experience of managing/assisting junior football teams and despair of our game. Every week its the same thing. Managers and coaches persist with the " get the ball up to the big lad up front" bypassing the midfield and no reliance on technique or skill. This fundamental error of a complete disregard for teaching children all about technique, skill, ball control, touch and instead talking up the virtue of the physical side of the game, is what is wrong with the english game. The French, Dutch, and Spanish teach their kids how to use the ball and spend a lot of time and money teaching them all about skill and technique. We don't do that in this country. No wonder managers look abroad for players, because they can get better players for less money!! Until we get away from this jingoistic ( bordering on racist) view that all foreign imports are harmful to the game, we will wallow in a pit of international mediocrity. How can english players not benefit from playing with likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Cantona, Di Canio, Zola, Fabregas, Torres, Arteta, Berbatov, Viera, Pires, Vidic and so and so on. Teach kids how to play the game properly and managers won't need to look abroad ( providing english players aren't priced out of the market as they seem to be at present) Unfortunately we need to look nearer to home for root of our problem, not at what we have been importing. Coppel and Fergusmoan take heed!!!

I don't think Liverpool were shit, but as Slosh pointed out Manure and the Arse would have taken Fulham apart. But that's the joy of football and why we all love it so much, where would we be without the worry of how our team is going to perform on Saturday, ............er sorry Sunday.............erm...................possibly Monday, or Wednesday..............................................
