  1. I agree with you entirely Pete, I too am all 3 and a white van man to boot!!
  2. Whilst we are the subject of road safety, I think that the cycling proficiency test should be reintroduced and mandatory for all. I won't bother going into all of the crass examples I see displayed daily by our two wheeled combatants of our public highways.......
  3. "The advertising industry's prime task is to ensure that uninformed consumers make irrational choices, thus undermining market theories that are based on just the opposite.? ― Noam Chomsky
  4. I have had the unfortunate pleasure of living under the management of this shower of idiots for the past 40 years, they are a law unto themselves, I remember back in the 70's when the toll gate raised it's charges from a reasonable ?0.0s 6d to an outrageous 50p, the estate promised that once the revenue reached a million they would invest it in reconstructing collage road, what they actually did was to tarmac over the shingle surface with the minimal amount of groundworks leaving it as bumpy and dangerous as it ever was! I used to live in one of their tower blocks on Farquhar rd, 60% of residents applied for double glazing and were refused on the grounds that they would not be befitting to the area leaving everybody with ill fitting crittall windows. I now live on Fountain drive the top end extension of collage rd we too are denied double glazing, I am entitled to a 50% discount on the gate but choose to drive around the long way rather than add to the coffers to these arseholes
  5. If they do succeed in dividing the nation I think we should then rebuild Hadrians wall, Keep the Sassanaks and Picts apart forevermore....
  6. Hello Mr Fox, I too had a Lumia 800, mine did the same thing, I solved it by never turning it off! Factory reset will clear the board, back it up via Zune. But the glitch is in-built and will return. Wait to the end of contract and go for a phone that runs 8.1 Great improvements have been achieved I went for the Lumia 1020, primarily for the camera and is soon to be discontinued

  14. Hear about the dyslexic Africans who laid some flowers at the gates of a Nissan main dealer?
  15. Have you both considered a Windows tablet? Office is built in as is Skype (microsoft own it) Snap on a keyboard and you've a laptop! A tablet could replace a PC but with some limitations, Windows Tablets come in two editions one is limited to only running "apps" (RunTime or RT) the other will run full blown programs as well. The apps will run on Windows 8 PC's and Phones and any purchases allow installation on 5 devices. This is nice! http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/phones/tablet/lumia2520/ Is it better to stick to an Android than an Ipad if you are used to a PC? With either you'll have to learn a new Operating system, If you have a android phone you might have an easier transition. But they are quite easy to learn. Hope this helps Right-Clicking
  16. Rather than take it into somewhere, Why not do the work yourself, bit of research and a helpful guide or walk-through will leave you better off and wiser, here's a good resource to start. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/
  17. Windows XP Vista and 7 and 8 windows key+ R brings up the run command box, type in MSCONFIG this will launch the system configuration box, click on the start up tab uncheck all the programs you do not want on start up. This will result in faster boot times and less of a drain on resources as the programs are not ticking away in the background. Right-Clicking.
  18. Helbel65 Read the post more closely, I did not say end all processes at all, Processes are under a different tab entirely! There is a big difference between tasks and processes. DOH! A lot of these nasties are also stored in the Java cache, go to control panel and type in the search box "Java control panel" under the general tab click on settings tab on the temp internet files, when the next box appears click on delete temp files
  19. Try this! When the message pops up, Press ctrl+shift+ Esc, this will launch the task manager, have a look under the programs tab and look for any programs that are running, multiple yahoo tasks will point towards an add on, close (end task) one by one. Next open IE and and click on the gear icon, click on internet options and see what addresses are loaded for the home page, whilst in IE check for add ons in the same drop down box. If you have another browser installed navigate to these sites and run a scan. http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx http://housecall.trendmicro.com/au/
  20. What I fail to comprehend is why there is a "green Levy" attached to our bills? Surely it's the responsibility of the energy companies whose business is energy production to swallow the investment costs even if it initially effects their profits, eventually the fossil fuels will either choke the planet or finally be used up? Then where will their business stand?
  21. Being not supported means no more updates and security patches, any new exploit will open a vulnerability and leave you exposed to on-line threats, This will not happen overnight but as time passes, depending on your browsing habits and types of sites visited, who's to know what might occur?
  22. That will depend on existing hardware, Ten years is a heck of a long time in computing and a lot of the the newer operating systems are more power hungry, and more importantly they will utilise all of the newer technologies. If your machine can accommodate more ram, and has a decent processor then you could move onto windows 8. Alternatively there are open source systems that you might want to try. Ubuntu and Mint are the most popular and you can try them without having to instal them! Boot from a "live DVD" give it a spin! http://www.ubuntu.com/ http://www.linuxmint.com/
  23. For future reference or anybody else struggling.....PDF are a proprietary format owned by Adobe, to edit you need access to Acrobat, either online or as a standalone program. There are other open source alternatives. https://www.acrobat.com/createpdf/en/home.html?trackingid=JPZKM
  24. A new initiative cooked up by Boris, seems to offer a glimmer of hope for those struggling to afford the extortionate rents/purchase. https://www.sharetobuy.com/london
  25. Laugh out loud !! Take a deep breath, open up your services folder and look for Volume shadow service, check to see if it set to automatic. VSS is where windows stores the restore points and it also controls the backups, try creating a system restore point. If the service is missing then as mentioned before, locate the command prompt and run as admin and enter SFC /scannow I use microsoft security essentials on my vista laptop. Why cannot you d/l any new anti-virus? Worth looking on the AVG site to see if there are any clean up tools to rid the registry as these can interfere with new installations...... When you do manage to locate your missing drivers, do yourself a favour and try out this great little tool. Double driver... It backs up all of your drivers! http://www.boozet.org/dd.htm Right-clicking
