  1. Also try blowing out any trapped debris with compressed air. Any previously spilled drink might have caused them to stick, Google make+model+replace keyboard, follow the guide and check the connection (unplug and plug back in). worst case your south-bridge chip controller is playing up, have a look on Acer's website for a diagnostic tool. Try plugging in a USB keyboard to test that it is your keyboard causing the errors. Good luck Right-clicking
  2. RSS or sometimes known as atom feeds are not exclusive to Google. There are dozens of "readers" doing a similar job. See the link below for a description of the better ones available. http://www.howtogeek.com/128487/the-best-free-rss-readers-for-keeping-up-with-your-favorite-websites/ r/c
  3. I have been using them for the past year, Once you have accumulated a dozen or so sources to pull from, the internet comes to you! No more aimless or futile wandering, No clicking on seemingly innocuous website and picking up a bunch of spyware or worse. No more side distractions, flashing banners or ads from a website you visited earlier. Follow blogs, articles from favourite websites, this feed even. Great for a tablet or kindle as well.
  4. If you do not have your windows installation disk and cannot find one to borrow. Download and burn a Linux live CD,http://www.ubuntu.com/download Boot off that disc, "mount" the hard drive to access files you want, copy to a flash drive. If you have the windows disk, load the disk and click on the option "repair my pc" that will launch system recovery click on command prompt, when the box opens copy and paste this command...... bootrec.exe /fixmbr (if it is a broken master boot record) if that fails use the same disc and re-install windows. good luck! right-clicking
  5. Heaps! This is an image file it's a single sometimes two file/s. it's all the data stored on the optical disk, or hard drive. There are many different disc image types but the result is the same, These images can be opened and edited. Use it with ripped DVD's as well, take out all the trailers, warnings, etc ! CD's use cue./bin one is just a text sheet (use notepad) with the meta data and instructions to the content bin. If you game you could copy the original disk create a image file and then mount it to the virtual drive to play rather than using the physical disc. If you download a program that has to be installed from a disc there is no need to use one! You can copy PlayStation games to preserve the often swapped out one. Operating systems use them, boot a Linux or mac in a virtual machine run it from a USB memory stick if you want. There many editing programs for whatever medium you are working on, Freeware and otherwise! Right-clicking.
  6. Here is another and rather neat way to deal with your CD's and DVD's. Copy the contents of the CD and then create an ISO file. mount this on a virtual drive and play as if was a physical disc!! An added bonus is that if you want a copy just burn the image on a blank CD and it will restore your original disc. Windows 8 has a virtual drive built in, those on earlier systems can d/l these freeware programs. http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/ also has an ISO creator built in. http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareFolder2Iso.php this is a portable ISO creator http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html Have a look on their respective site for explanations and tutorials right-clicking
  7. Thanks for your kind words!! You are welcome and I am glad I was able to help. Here are some links to get you up to speed using Windows 8 Great Video! http://marketing.dell.com/Global/FileLib/Windows_8/windows-8-ebook.pdf http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windows-8-review,3334.html These and more can be found on my newly started Facebook page. Have a look!! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Right-Clickable/537539619605805?filter=1
  8. I converted over a 1000 vinyl albums (or tracks off them) onto Minidisc, Atrac was and is a great codec but cannot be played on a PC, I now am in the process of converting them again to WAV! I will have to go via the line in, so no fast ripping!! I will keep the mini discs as they reproduce the sound very close to the original. Audacity I agree is not the easiest tool to use! On another but related note if your are ripping cd's then its very important to calibrate the drive. A freeware program called EAC (Exact Audio Copy) will do this and will give you the best results. Steep learning curve on this one tho' ! http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ User Tutorial http://blowfish.be/eac/
  9. If space is not an issue (hard drives are cheap enough) I would rip the cd's using WAV This format is uncompressed and will give cd quality, most phones support playback as do a lot of tablets and apple products. if you need MP3 then make a copy and convert it. Built into itunes is a file conversion tool. DJKQ made a good point as the sound card on laptops are crap due to electromagnetic interference picked up from the hardware on the main board, going via the usb to a external sound card will lift the sound to a decent reproduction level. I use a turtle beach http://www.turtlebeach.com/search/sound+card right-clicking
  10. For the un-informed Windows 8 is a separate environment (run time) to run apps, primarily designed for a touch interface, the applications are cross-platform allowing themselves to be "installed" on all windows devices (phone, tablet and PC) They do not install as such but are executables contained in folder "sandboxed" (like a portable app) any full program on the start screen are short-cuts to the main environment/desktop. modern (the new interface) will run as a standalone o/s on a (surface) tablet. The offer for Windows 8 is ?25 if downloaded!!! Windows 8 will be the last major change from Microsoft, the Windows "Blue" (project) will follow a system similar to Apple and you will just receive cheap or free updates 8.1, 8.2 Etc I have been running all 3 builds of windows 8 (developers, release preview and consumers preview) prior to the finished product, It is faster and more secure than any other windows. Sue Is there any vestige of an image on the screen?, grab a torch and look closely, if you can make out anything then your screen inverter has given up the ghost! Does the laptop beep? If so write down the sequence as these are interpretable for diagnostic purposes. You say the light is on, is the fan running? look at the two or three lights if these are flashing then this will show that there is some hard disk activity. right-clicking
  11. Have you tried the Ctrl+Alt+delete command? If its a hardware issue then nothing will appear to happen if it's a software issue you might get to see the splash screen, If so boot into safe mode and go to device manager and see if you have any yellow flags! Right-Clicking
  12. South norwood is a toilet!! Look at woodside green or addiscombe very near to the jubction but a lot less grotty
  13. Yes there is a God, Man made Him in His own Image
  14. DaveR to quote you " And let's shift our approach of labelling with arbitrary names (e.g. "organic" or "local") to labels that indicate performance (e.g. what nutrition is being delivered, and how many resources/what environmental impact it took to produce it?)" Surely Local would would fall into that criteria? Flying in some sugar snap peas from Kenya would have some environmental impact!! Plus not to forget that we are actually importing water (80/90% of fruit and veg ) from nations that can ill-afford to loose it, Only our wealth enables us to afford what the exporting nations cannot, effectively stealing the food from the poor.
  15. Analogue socket is a VGA should be blue! you can get a converter for it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMI-Male-SVGA-Converter-Cable/dp/B003X924P4/ref=sr_1_7? s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1358026128&sr=1-7 Right-Clicking
  16. When parking try reversing in and in the final maneuver leave the front wheels pointing out and leave a foot or so gap at the front, this will decrease the total amount of space needed to exit out without a scuff!
  17. If you are already on the compose email page then it will be the same as if your were on a regular PC/Mac depending on what service you use it will have either a paperclip symbol or attach file....... Right-Clicking
  18. As a tablet does not suit, then I would go for the Sony as its not tied into any publishing house. when you do buy check out this website for thousands of free books http://www.gutenberg.org/
  19. If you do not mind the extra weight, or a bit more on the price you might want to look at a full blown tablet, the new kindles and kobos are steering this way anyhow! I have a blackberry playbook and an app to read ebooks. I had to adjust the contrast and chose sepia paper but it works great! I can choose wherever I want to download my books from, including lots of free titles. Right-Clicking
  20. Hello! Does the drive show in windows explorer-computer? try using the eject button (in Windows explorer), if not power down the pc and look at the drive itself, there should be a small hole, get a paper-clip and push it into that hole, this is a manual eject button. if that does not work it may be that the drive motor has gone, as suggested above is the way to go. 21. I have not eaten meat for 35 years but I still eat fish, so I guess I have the label "pescatarian"!! Its a lifestyle choice and anyone who abstains from eating dead animals is doing themselves, the planet and the animal itself a favour! Limited resources, lack of affordable supply and increased demand will have a lot of people if not stopping at least cutting down. Livestock has the biggest impact on global warming! Methane has a significantly increased effect compared to CO2. Kilo for kilo it's also at least 5X less productive then veg. Let alone the amount of dubious chemicals to make the polystyrene wrapped end product more look more inviting UGH!! Just as worrying is the all year round veg and fruit, flown in from all over the planet, robbing the host grower food and water from their market. So now I suppose we should all eat season and local? I wear leather as it's a by-product from the meat production. Looks lovely and wears well!!
  22. I have lived in Greece off and on for a few years over the last 20, and I am amazed the country survived before the euro, let alone after! Tax dodging is a way of life for most Greeks, they explain it away as they have a lack of trust in the self satisfying corrupt politicians who line their own pockets, (same world over IMO). Point of case; On Paros island, the local government used Google earth to see who had a swimming pool and who had declared and paid their taxes on it. only 10% had!! This is normal and no doubt indicative of similar behaviour across the whole nation. I believe the Euro/EU will never succeed without further integration and it would have had a better chance had the British government had the balls to pitch us in with the other nations, Forget going it alone on the world stage as an independent player, bring on The United States of Europe!!
