  1. Hi, Looking for an end of tenancy professional cleaning service, preferably some time on Sunday the 19th of July. It's for a large studio flat (L-shaped open plan), which probably falls somewhere between the size of a regular studio and one bedroom flat. It will be unfurnished apart from the bed. Any recommendations? Many thanks!
  2. I'm pretty sure it's largely because of influx of people using the back way to join the south circular going westbound avoiding the partial closure near Grove Tavern Harvester. Another five weeks to go I believe...

    .

I went today in just a cozzie and it was heavenly!
  4. Putney bridge and fulham palace road to hammersmith is my route of choice.
  5. Last time I was working out there, I got a prepaid T-mobile sim off amazon I think (might have been eBay), while I was still in the UK. Meant I could set up my phone ahead of time although think I had to complete the process once I landed. If you do this, use your normal card number, but a US address as your billing address. I used the hotel I was staying at for my first couple of nights. Obviously it shouldn't work, but it does. I then as above, got the something like $30 a month which gave you a month with enough texts, minutes and data to use your phone as you would here. A colleague did the same thing, but just walked into a t-mobile store once we were in the US which to be honest is probably a little less complicated and presumably you could pay in cash or use a card without requiring a local billing address. I lived over there for six years so would echo the advice about checking on network compatibility. Verizon is total no go, can't remember about the others but Tmobile worked fine with an iPhone.
  6. There's an enterprise car hire in Sydenham which I've always found cheap and cheerful. Used them recently for a one way hire to Cornwall because their one way rate was about half of the other firms which isn't always clear on the price comparison sites. Also they do free pick up/drop off if it's difficult for you to get to them under your own steam. Agreed - not a fan of National.
  7. Oops - sorry mine is a cable connection not broadband.
  8. I was having some problems with Virgin connection, specifically slow in evenings and dropping service and having to restart router/modem. I called them last week (150 I think from your home phone, but you can google it), and got through to an actual human in three minutes (two automated menus first). An engineer came two days later, at the beginning of the time slot I was allocated and fixed it. He boosted the signal outside the property and replaced the router and modem and it's been amazing ever since. Perhaps slightly slower in the evenings but I downloaded a 45 minute TV episode in four minutes the other day vs fifteen before. I would say to talk to them. I definitely whinged to a friend about it, but when I did something about it, was pretty astonished to actually receive really good customer service.
  9. P13 is a nightmare at any busy times of day and you're so close to Forest Hill road anyway. I would just walk the five minutes down Ryedale to Forest Hill road and pick up the 63. You'd be getting on at the first or second stop so guaranteed seat!
  10. I used to live in the states and spend a couple of summers in the white mountains in New Hampshire, and Stowe in Vermont. Both places less about the towns, but incredible hiking. Cape Cod is lovely too and very accessible from Boston. It feels almost like an American version of Cornwall. We were working so were put up so not sure on prices but the holiday houses at Stoweflake and the Green Mountain Inn are gorgeous. There is an Inn in Stowe whose owners are British called 'ye old england Inn' I think... Very hospitable and would probably love to see a couple of British faces for dinner. Magic Hat brewery in Burlington is fun, long trail brewery is on my dream list too as well as hiking the long trail. But I'm pretty much obsessed by microbrews.
  11. Hmmm... I had an appointment and was seen fairly quickly despite a very busy waiting room. I would go first thing in the morning with a good book and chance it. Although I vaguely remember them checking my appointment info on the door before letting me in.
  12. "Plastic surgeons are always making mountains out of molehills..." Dolly Parton "Leslie and I have an amazing relationship and it's very physical, he still pushes all my buttons. People say 'oh but he's so much older than you' and you know what, I'm the one having to push him away. We have so much in common, we both love soup and snow peas, we love the outdoors, and talking and not talking. We could not talk or talk forever and still find things to not talk about." Best in Show
  13. If money isn't a big problem Yamaha Silent pianos are great. They are fully functioning traditional pianos but when you put down a pedal, the hammers are stopped from striking the piano strings and sensors convert what you are playing into an electric sound so you can plug in headphones and hammer away. Thus best of both worlds - proper weight and action but ability to play without disturbing the neighbours at antisocial times.
  14. If you're in area, I've never waited more than two days for an appointment at Forest Hill road group practice and often get offered same day. Their phone system is a bit annoying as it's an 0845 number, but you can almost always get through.
  15. I don't know what to say other than that I'm so sorry and hope that you at least have some closure and peace.
  16. Meant to post earlier - no sign of him on my run through Brenchley Gardens, Nunhead Cemetery and south side of Peckham Rye.
  17. I'm often working evenings and weekends so might not be able to join the group run but will keep an eye out on my run tomorrow and perhaps cover Brenchley gardens and Nunhead Cemetery.
  18. Any of your music library that was downloaded from iTunes can be transferred in exactly the same way but when you try and play one of them for the first time it will say that your iTunes account is not authorised to play the downloaded song or video on the new computer. If you go to the store menu on the top of the iTunes window, there is an option to authorise the new computer and you can link up to five computers with one iTunes account.
  19. Also Cornish - Happy St Piran's Day! Going to dig the Betty Stoggs out right now.
  20. There is a black and white cat that has been missing from underhill road for a while. If anyone has the number it would be worth calling them.
  21. I used to lifeguard in a newish pool with a UV filtration system when I was doing my A-levels more than ten years ago so not particularly new thing. However made enormous difference and didn't feel like my eyes were burning out of my skull each time I got in the pool...
  22. Ditto to Forest Hill Road one - I've always been offered same day or next day for appointments. Only downside is the phone system.
  23. New Orleans is in serious contest for favourite trip of all time for me. I went whilst living in New York perhaps a year post Katrina. There were still very moving and apparent signs of the disaster, although more so in the outer residential areas. However the centre was functioning almost as normal. Loved the architecture, the people, the smokey jazz bars, eating beignets in the square, being able to order a drink in one bar and carry it with me to the next... Really regret not visiting Savannah as well while I was down south. Always wanted to after reading 'midnight in the garden of good and evil'.
  24. Actually most artists and orchestras receive far more than a minutes applause. Conductor usually leaves and reenters the stage at least three times, and then takes time to acknowledge some individual members of the orchestra. When you're sat on stage it's time mostly spent either grinning inanely, patting your colleagues on their back or planning the quickest way to pack up, change and hit the bar before the queue gets big! Best reward after a concert though comes in certain parts of Germany where you are handed a beer as you exit the stage...
