A lot will depend tonight on whether Ibrahimovic has had the kind of strop that leads to a dazzling display or a meltdown - I think he will be key.

    Online Personas

The burning question re on-line personas (and not the "I remember when it was all fields around here" outlook of certain senior members) is why SO many have changed theirs over the years. Is it boredom with a hastily chosen persona? A game (arising out of more boredom) where you have to guess who so-and-so is now? A rebirth after a banning? The desire to disassociate oneself with previouly held views? Multiple personalities? I ask because the new personas of those who have changed are (it would seem) quickly and easily recognised/known by their contemporaries; indeed at the forum drinks I went to a year or so ago, among the things pointed out to me was "That's so-and-so, he used to be whtshisname, and that's thingy who used to go by the name of thingamajig" and so on. I ask merely for information. And because it's Friday. And I'm really borrrrrrred.

Just be thankful the rumours aren't of some rich Far Eastern Magnate who might try a 'Cardiff' and insist on rebranding Spurs so that they wear red!
  8. Sometimes I feel things have passed me by. I have never bought a packet of Space Raiders - let alone tasted the contents. 10p is cheap though - maybe life does have new experiences to offer.
  9. Nearly avoided the bear-trap EP, but the "you should all keep schtum..." got you in the end. *points finger in desperation at local aspirants.

I think any middle class snobs watching would think exactly the same. He managed to analyse the clich?s of middle class taste without sneering and almost without offending which is quite a feat. His reassuring protestation of "but I'm middle class too!" helped, yet I couldn't help thinking that some of the guests at the tapestry viewing would go home a bit narked despite their nodding and smiling agreement at all his wit and insight. That computerised tapestry machine was brill though.
  11. I bought a bog-standard Bush turntable for about 30 quid - has it's own tinny speaker and tiny amp built in but will also play through my kenwood amplifier; most of my platters are a little worn anyway so the quality is nice 'n hissy with a side order of crackle.

On the match I thought the Ox did well and showed he didn't mind fluffing it a little, wasn't scared to take a chance - hope this rubs off on neurotics like Gerrard et al and we see a less fearful England in future. He and Young have to stay in the team or they will probably revert to the long ball.

I clicked on it without any problems but you may be right (I'm not too tech savvy) so here's the youtube link to the same thing - bizarre but compelling tho I was more taken with their response to the Tam Cowan's "joke" about them in the Daily Record-

  18. It's hard not to keep turning out what many call 'crap' when so many rich gullible tossers insist on paying thousands for it. Takes great fortitude to resist the lure of lucre and produce real art again. I think Hirst is aware of the dilemma and thought 'Sod it - I'll take their cash and do some more 'real' stuff later' - trouble is it's hard to go back - especially when you didn't leave a trail of crumbs to follow. ETA: I do quite like Perry's work but would rather see Cornelia Parker's stuff any day.

  20. Thanks picapica - yes, I have researched a bit and have to admit did not know so many different types of hoverfly were around in the UK (270 as it turns out) and was more used to the smaller common 'Marmalade Fly'. Still not sure why the hoverfly and bee were asleep for several hours (to paraphrase a well known journalist - I counted them when I went out and I counted them when I came back in) in their respective places though.
