SIR - Who could doubt that women's tennis is more entertaining than men's tennis? Each game is so brief, so my attention does not wander. In men's matches the ball is hammered across the net in such a way that I cannot relax. Derek Slavin, Heywood, Lancashire. ;-)

  3. If Boris Johnson doing the announcements on the train tonight is symptomatic of the Olympic spirit then please God let it be over soon!
  4. Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter, Oatmeal Stout and Organic Lager - British and English and very very tasty.
  5. ah, hence the phrase "Beware Greeks bearing gifts telling fibs"
  6. Surprised at XXXL Zorba throwing a (belly) wobbler as there were positive as well as adverse comments re them - as for the Acorn Antiques Tea Rooms - it makes you want to plonk yourself on a beautifully embroidered seat in there and declaim: "We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"
  7. I think you have yet to find your OVD* Nette. I think it looks rather swell... from the junction of LL and Heber rd. *Optimum Viewing Distance.
  8. Surely it's the signal it would send that matters to gooners? Sell him and maybe you won't attract the best young players who could feel the club lacked ambition - and the players already at the club may feel the same and want to leave now rather than be part of ANOTHER rebuilding season?

  12. And anyway, in Cla'am they pronounce it 'trawl'... I suspect this troll to be a teenager who has started the summer holidays early by getting hold of his dad/mum's EDF ID and is exercising his/her full range of repartee.
  13. If you need a blood test for your GP you can use Kings on Tuesdays, 12.30 to 4.45pm, and Fridays, 7.30am to 12.30pm but not at any other times.
  14. I waited ages for a plane ... then three came along at the same time.
  15. It's a sop to the FA from FIFA to keep them sweet and stop them banging on about corruption - makes them feel good - like promoting a trouble maker out of the office.
  16. Great quote from Aussie coach Mickey Arthur re the ODIs "England are playing a very good brand of cricket... England have a blueprint and it's one we'll probably need to follow." I know these one-dayers are a bit of a nothing/add-on kind of a series but the pleasure of kicking Aussie butt hasn't palled yet.
  17. red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What are people's expectations for the coming new > season?.. Too early for me to start self-inflicting that kind of pain - I am now in cricket mode and shall remain so until August when I will probably start by ridiculing the chances of visiting Villa.
  18. To be fair the whole place has needed a refit since Somerfield scrapped the deli and wet fish counters in favour of what was meant to be an 'in store bakery' (trans: an oven to warm factory made bread so the smell will make people buy it). I like a lot of the Co-op brand stuff (including their pasta and fair-trade chocolate) and I like their sourcing in a lot of areas, but the place is well overdue a facelift.

  20. Am in negotiation with ED CCF to station surface to air missiles on my pigeon loft ornamental roof garden to ensure a trouble free BBRR. (In case of a refusal am improvising with 2litre bottles of Irn Bru and several packets of space dust)

  22. A fruit-bearing apple tree can be very small - can even be grown in a container - so no reason to suppose huge Victorian-style apple trees will be needed to get blossom and fruit. The EDOC did a cider pressing at Franklins a while back and there was discussion here - http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,547955,548705 ...you can probably contact Damon Green for some answers too if he is still involved...
