True Ot but this is the honeymoon period when we can dream of Klopp or Bilic or Emery and right now I would take Charlie Fecking Caroli with a big fat smile on my face knowing I no longer have to listen to the insults, lies and excuses of that rancid twat Allardiccio.

There used to be a difference between further education (aka job training) and higher education. Both were open to all but the latter often placed an emphasis on the experience of education rather than the qualification obtained or how fitted it made one for a particular job. Then Tony ushered in shit degrees for all so everyone could boast a degree on their cv (no matter how debased it now was) and the qualification became all that mattered but, as they were in coat-hanger recognition and button polishing, were less than valued (as qualifications) by industry so became worthless anyway. The people who suffered were those who had actually dedicated their lives to new ways of polishing buttons or had spent a decade classifying half a million different coat hanger varieties and who were now as ridiculed as the shiftless tossers who did those degrees because they looked an easy route to the qualification. I once joined a picket line outside my college to protest the fall (in real terms) of the value of student grants. That seems a world away now and I am positive that I would never have attended a degree course if it hadn't been free. We get the younger generation we are prepared (or not) to pay for.

Montenegro - the only true eurovis song (apart from that mad waitress third second from the end*) in a glut of X-Factor does Eurovision glitzy rip-off lameness. Should have watched the semis. *Albania, that was her - spirited beats tuneful any day.

All very dreary and a little too earnest so far (apart from mad botox man); where's the bonkers?* *Sentence to be read in eurovis fashion- start in minor key, breathy and mucho vibrato then build to the one note you can belt out and gi' it laldy - hold for 8 seconds - cue audience drones on feet cheering and sobbing. Job done. ETA: Russia must win prize for most vomit-inducing pap so far.

Exactly that RD - don't want to get all unnecessary to find Allardyce has been offered a new contract. Sorry Teddy has gone but wish him luck as Stevenage Manager - his leaving means we need an attack-minded or at least attack-savvy manager. If rumours are true Benitez is possibly going to Real so Bilic is front runner but might be too Bolshie (Independent) for SulliGold - wasn't too disappointed that Moyes ruled himself out - hope the McClaren rumours are way off. Apparently they are trying hard with Klopp but can't see that happening. Oh, and Seville boss Emery is 'in talks' for the post - but then so is everyone*. Bilic or Emery would be good. *except Garry Monk AqM :)

I understand the reason but think the locking action was wrong. Nobody who starts a thread has the right to dictate the terms of others posting on it so I had assumed anyone who had an opinion would ignore DF's bleating about "no debate" and go ahead and debate it anyway. Isn't that what usually happens? In any case problem is easily solved by DF, or anyone else who wants it, starting a thread debating the whole tedious business (I say tedious because much as I suspect I should care I really don't). Or we could start an EDF martyrs thread as there seems to be a growing band...

Some might say it has been changed by the greed of money-grabbing baskets (aka neighbours you knew for decades) who cashed in and sold up to start the ball rolling. If they had all stayed things might be different... wonder why they left?

Yes but they would also have said it when the PR types in waxed Doc Martins and black 501s moved in to Soho 30 years ago. It was said in Borough (re-branded as Bankside) before the emergence of Borough 'Farmer's' Market some 20 years back, Said when they redeveloped the old dock warehouses into yuppie lego-apartments 30 years ago, Going further back - it was said when the old slums were knocked down and people were moved to New Towns in the 1960s-70s.

Never mind whether Wethers weathers this storm of criticism, does it mean the Cherry Tree getting a new chef? And if so do they have new ideas and are they keen for us to go along and- oh I can't be arsed.

Not saying the place has gone downhill in the 5 years since, or that it wouldn't pass today - just that when they fire-up of an evening there is a nasty stink coming from their chimney. Maybe it's not the oil, perhaps they burn off yesterday's meat products from their griddle and send the burnt-beefy pollution heavenwards. I just nose it smells bad. Re-shit sparkling, I remember the first time I used a loo in a flat in Cologne to find they have that 'shelf' arrangement where things 'sit' before being flushed away and was told by mein host (titter) that it was to inspect the-... no I can't go on.

Don't really have a problem with the rich spending hundreds on a coffee or thousands on a steak because it was reared on Beethoven and vintage Sake and slaughtered by being talked to death by a coterie of Oxbridge dons - the percentages probably work out vis an average ED resident, their income and a ?3 latte or Kobe burger. But this guff about eating or drinking gold leaf. Is it just so their shit sparkles?
-
Have a tipple on any nearby roof terrace or in any hostelry garden near GBK when they start cooking - there is a foul smell pumped out from the age-old and rancid oil they keep using. Perhaps there is a chemical in the nuts that prevents one vomming the mouldy fries? I know these places are really just for kids but change the oil now and again eh?

So Louisa - it's just the colour you take issue with. Ironically (or absolutely not) I think M'laddies Gove et al would be with kb on this. Until they saw the spreadsheet of course.

Kids at weddings if they are related sure - It's a difficult one to dodge with family. You can hardly tell siblings or cousins not to bring their kids because, well, they're your family too. If they get lary there's always plenty of Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents to rein them in or threaten them. But unless you know friends' kids well and are Godparents or something, then of course not - if you're invited to dinner or a party you wouldn't take your kids would you? And - service and endless photos apart - that's all this is.

I thought you died already kb? Jeez, you must have 9 lives...

I confess to being delighted Simon Hughes lost his seat. He was a venomous snake who deserved to be dumped a long time ago. I lived in SE1 for 8 years and had some contact with him in various roles re housing and tenants associations - he was a self serving egotist and a snide. I have always thought JB to be a decent cove though and hope he sticks at it.
