  1. I do sympathise, however it's probably not quite as bad as having a group of local kids shout out "faggot", "battyman" etc. at me and my partner as we waited for a train a couple of years ago. It's no longer acceptable to be 'overtly' racist, however it seems you can be overtly homophobic and get away with it quite easily.
  2. Judging by the skanky people that spill out of there at closing time I think they weren't strict enough actually
  3. "Our son Pat Is a bit nifty with a bat Can run in a circle As fast as a cat" What was this all about? Featuring a young Joe Absolom as I recall, for Sun Pat peanut butter.
  4. My favourite ad ever is the 80s Um Bongo one. Classic!
  5. I'm prepared to give them a chance. Some chains are better than others. Just as some girls are bigger than others. Some girls' mothers are bigger than other girls' mothers. (Excuse me while I reminisce about Inside 72's excellent music policy)
  6. I have another one on TV at the moment but I'm not going to say what it is for fear that people think it's even more annoying than my Parozone ones... Forgot to say respect to you for the Citroen one, it's cool!

    Gay Pride

Hoping to go to Gay Shame. The flyers are hilarious. It says they will aim to recreate the ambience of a piss-stained minicab office with the decor. Lol
  8. If they play Mika I will introduce a new cocktail to the staff. A Molotov.
  9. Ideally I'd like a cocktail bar that's bigger than the old 72 but still plays decent music like 72 used to. Looked at their website and they say Kaisrer chiefs and Queen and Scissor Sisters will be on the playlist. Ugh! They should have stolen 72's cds
  10. What has happened to this then? I want cocktails!
  11. Sorry Moos, I don't want to cause offence. I just get annoyed at the double standards. And I feel for the people who suffer in silence because of the nonsense spouted by some of these people.
  12. >>But surely the way to do the best for your kids is to have them mix with children of all different backgrounds in a school where the majority of parents take an interest and where those values can be spread to kids who are not fortunate enough to have such enlightened and caring parents I find it insulting to be called a Thatcherite. You have a hopelessly naive, deluded view. The only way to achieve what you're saying is to have enforced, full comprehensivisation, and abolish all selective & private schools. Which I agree with, incidentally! Now am I a Thatcherite? The point is, we have to work within the flawed system we have. If you give people choice you can't expect them to sacrifice their children's education for an idealistic political principle. We're all going to do the best we can for our kids. It's not fair but I didn't design the education system.
  13. Totally agree. I think it's quite shameful that schools are allowed to peddle this Medieval nonsense while the unfortunate few gay kids who are sent to them have to keep their sexuality a secret. Heard recently about a girl at one such school who confided to a sports teacher that she thought she might be a lesbian. She was made to sit outside the changing rooms while the other girls showered. What vile hypocrisy.
  14. What I really object to is the brainwashing aspect. How can it be legal to teach a load of old stories as established fact to young kids? We don't have schools that teach history and morality through the lens of Grimm's Fairy Tales or Greek Myths so why should Christianity be any different? No wonder society seems fragmented when there are places like this opening all over the place...
  15. I might set up a school for gay kids - perhaps Lord Harris could sponsor it? Then we could call it Harris High for Homos. We will preach intolerance towards Christians and followers of similar barbaric and irrational cults.
  16. Asset wrote: >>I would say the crap parents are the ones who don't give a toss about their kids' education and don't get involved with the school or how it is run or try to make a difference. To call parents crap because they do care is just laughable. Well said! I am tired of having to listen to people slagging people like me off for trying to do the best for our kids. How exactly would I be helping the community by putting my child into a failing school where he would be unhappy and alienated? Jamma, please feel free to choose whatever school you like for your kids but don't sneer at others' choices. I have worked hard to give my son a solid upbringing. He is a bright, articulate child and I wouldn't dream of allowing him to fester in a failing school.
  17. Is this a joke? That's the very last thing East Dulwich needs, a school run by crackpot Bible bashers. And if the fees are 7k a year in London the quality of education will be bargain basement as well as fundamentalist. I think faith schools are evil. We don't have schools for different races or cultures so why is religion a justifiable means of social apartheid?
  18. "The ones for Parazone wrapped round The Bill are so naff. Yes, I do sometimes watch The Bill." Oops...I was involved in these. Oh dear...
  19. Damn. As well as Somerfield I need to rank Costcutter, Londis and Spar. Any suggestions?
  20. The official hierarchy is as follows: 1) Waitrose 2) M&S 3) Sainsbury's 4) Tesco =6) Morrisons =6) Asda 7) Co-op 8) Aldi 9) Lidl 10) Netto Co-op is a difficulat one to place - middle class-friendly ethical stance meets pikey image. Hmm.
  21. How about one of these? http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080611/lf_nm_life/japan_trainspotting_dc_1
  22. You never know, perhaps Run DMC were in the 'hood shooting some hoops and told them?
  23. http://www.lordshiplane.co.uk/talk/news.asp "definitely" as in "definitely maybe" perhaps?
  24. A rival East Dulwich website reckons East Dulwich police station will be demolished so M&S can move in. Who keeps spreading these rumours? Are they hoping someone at M&S will be brainwashed into actually doing it?
  25. >>if the majority of kids at a school are sent there with a healthy attitude and know how to behave that school will thrive Um, no actually! In my experience the headteacher is crucial in defining the whole ethos of a school. Word on the street is that Goose Green suffered from a bad one. Getting more middle-class kids to go there soesn't seem to have helped. Irrespective of this, I'm sorry Jamma, I wouldn't compromise my child's education for a political principle. Think you're in the minority there.
