  1. See now on that one it's a no. There won't be any regulars. It's a theme pub, the only "regulars" will be people (like me) employed to sit at the bar drinking all day whilst swearing under their breath at anyone not similarly employed. If anyone else starts getting too cozy and thinking they're a regular, they'll be dragged out back for a "talk", and won't be coming back in a hurry.

But with lock-ins for regulars. Now you're talking! Fox's on Kirkdale does some food on the bar on a Sunday, even if it's just cheese and biscuits it's still a good touch.

Seriously though, there are no advantages in terms of gaining interest or whatever, but if it's done by a savvy and trustworthy landlord, it works for everyone. He looks after your dosh so you don't spend it and you get a lump sum at the end of the year, and for him, I dare say he puts everyone's in to an account and keeps whatever interest it earns over the year. I don't know that they even exist these days. But keep i mind that a lot of the people that would have used these "schemes" wouldn't have had a savings account, or any intention of ever walking in to a bank. They MIGHT have had a National Savings account with the post office.
  4. Arthur Fowler went to prison for nicking the Christmas Club in 80s Eastenders.
  5. Anyway, back to Ye Olde Boozer. A Christmas Club, where the landlord takes weekly money off you to save for Christmas. I paid in to one of these (through my dad) about 10 years ago. It was bloody great, lump sum at Christmas which I never would have put aside otherwise.

Well now a man called Blind has scored.
  11. They should open it as an theme pub called "Ye Olde Boozer", and have darts, pool, and no food except nuts (not posh ones), crisps and scratchings. Charge top dollar for beer. I bet it would work a treat.

Any manager that cups his ear to his own club's fans should be sacked immediately.
  13. Yes MrBen, it really is THAT shit having kids.

And Real on Wednesday... Actually, Liverpool being Liverpool, this might just be the match where they suddenly play well... Bale a doubt, not that he's Real's only good player.

Interesting day yesterday. Gary Monk was spot on and I hope the clueless powers that be don't punish him too harshly for speaking the truth. Mark Hughes is cuntish as ever (can't stand that bloke, he's in the BFS club for me). QPR deperately unlucky against a poor Liverpool. Dunno what's happened at the pool, Balotelli needs to start playing, but it's more than just that. Had I been a neutral yesterday I'd have been screaming for QPR to win. And fair play to Redknapp, love him or hate him, it was a quality rant.
  16. In all seriousness, aged 7 in 1985 that was pretty much the first time these two had appeared on my radar. And much as I like lots of Stones, and some Bowie numbers, I basically haven't been able to like either of them ever, because the 7 year old me found this video disturbing.
  17. I think there was an unspokene understanding that we'd all pretend it hadn't.

You'll be looking down on Liverpool for a while at this rate.
  19. This, just because it's from a big time in my life (the whole finishing 6th form and getting ready to go off to uni).
  20. Just seen this for the first time.

  22. Excellent call Jah Lush!

  24. Don't THINK this one has been done before on the forum. Anyway, Jah Lush mentioned Eric Clapton on another thread, and whilst I've never been a huge fan, someone gave me an old LP of "No reason to cry" when I was about 13. This song, which is written by Dylan, is on that album and I've always really really liked it.

LOVED Halloween as a kid. These days it seems we've taken all the shit aspects of the American version without all the stuff that makes the American version good. So now it's just all about trick or feckin treat.
