  1. Yeah I know, I know. Ready meals are evil, especially when it's so easy to whip something up, blah blah blah. Look, I love to cook, and wish I always had the time, but right now, I don't. Now a lot of ready meals are genuinely rotten, and I'd rather avoid. I quite like the Tescos Finest Cottage Pie (with lots of added pepper). Anyone got any favourites to recommend? StraferJack need not reply ;-)
  2. I always thought the Irish "festival" was a pretty poor event to be honest. No great kids. Sorry if that is a grumpy old man kind of post.
  3. Don't live there, but have lived in a house with a train line at the end of the garden, and you really do just stop noticing it. It certainly wouldn't be enough to turn me off of a house that I otherwise liked.
  4. For the record, I don't hate being a parent. I just don't get people who love it all. I genuinely envy those people.
  5. I saw him yesterday (not for the first time). Gave him a smoke, then a quid, but he just keeps asking for more (he wanted a pint). I think he genuinely needs some help from mental health services.
  6. We've just had number 2. Mrs Otta may suggest a 3rd at some point, at which time, I plan to kill myself. Love my girls, but still don't get why people rave about being parents to be honest.
  7. Wenger probably wants him to play for England, because he has lost so many players to the African Nations Cup over the years.

The old pub is definitely remaining a pub, but they are building flats and retail units. The people of Sydenham are getting jolly excited about rumours of a Waitrose coming to the site...

It isn't a coincidence. They are in fact doing up The Greyhound, which is infact 313 Kirkdale. The Woodman is 110. Dam it, looks like it'll be an estate agent after all :-(

Can't believe they're calling a pub in Sydenham The Greyhound. Can't be coincidence.

How do you know by the way? I couldn't see it on their website.

My local. I actually really liked the Woodman in it's last incarnation. Nobody seems to be able to make the place work though, so bit of a risk. Very pleased to hear this though, as I'd heard an estate agent had bought it and planned to turn it in to their new office.
  13. Blair is a tosser, and always has been (could never vote for someone with that grin), but I disagree with you on this particular subject LadyD. That said, whether disaffected, alienated, or what, it's hand washing on his past to claim that these people are basically completely separate from society. I agree that the whole "society is broken" thing is a nonsense but equally, these kids are a product of society, we can't claim otherwise. Mockney, I'm down with your general sentiment, but I hate to see a phrase like "he's lost the right to comment".

Pubs in Sydenham are generally shite, so fingers crossed...
  15. susy, I am a bloke, and when you said about him going off on one when he felt you'd taken over bath time, I have to admit that I have had similar feelings at times. HOWEVER, even if you were the most controlling woman in the world, which I am certain you are not, there us absolutely no excuse for hitting you and dragging you around by your hair! You have done the right thing, even if it feels horrible. Tell him you won't even consider sorting things out until he gets help. If he won't do that, then he shouldn't be around you or your child. Best wishes.

  17. Now you're talking!

So you don't agree with what he says in the article then? I am no Blair fan, but he's a clever man, and that article speaks sense.
  19. With this sort of hing, it's best to just be satisfied that you did a good thing, and not dwell on it. If he was/ is a con man, then he's scum, but you thought someone genuinely needed help, so you helped them. Good for you.
  20. You'd have thought your GP would have mentioned diabetes if s/he thought there was a chance it could be an issue, so hopefully it's not. Glad there are no other health reasons :)
  21. I'm not trying to be dramatic, but please take him to GP, in order to rule out diabetes. Very wet nappies is a symptom, and it's important to catch it early. Fingers crossed that is not the issue, but I'd get it checked for peace of mind. Does he feed a lot? Edit for stupid predictive text mistake.

RNIB and Guide Dogs have been campaigning against shared surfaces for a while, since they put forward new designs for the Exhibition Road area.
  23. Can't be of any help, but just wanted to say sorry to hear that. My beloved tatty old coat got nicked from The Vile a couple of years ago (serves me right for going there in the first place), and it's a horrible feeling. At least The Bishop will be supportive, the owner of the vale just good police "stuff doesn't get stipend in my pub", and that was the end of that.
  24. ... I strongly recommend you visit the French bakery, opposite the Tesco. It opened a couple of months ago, and they are very lovely. The lemon tart is a personal favourite!
