First time I heard "yummy mummy" was on a stag do in 2004, and that was definitely meant in a "MILF" way. Since then, it has becoe more derogatory, because people use it to describe a certain type of other that they dislike. First tie I heard "MILF", was in the film American Pie. Nuff said. I take my hat off to the OP, and to Josie for being honest about their feelings. Yes they may find themselves talking about poo in the future, but that doesn't mean they should aspire to it. As is often the case in the family room, a group of people take offence to anyone suggesting that they might not want to do things the same way.

I'm going to put off buying it, until I've finished a couple of other games, and seen to my affairs. Oblivion took over life for a good while, and I imagine this will do the same. It'll be a shame to miss the kids growing up, but, you know...

I've not read much, but the wife has read a shed load of books, with varying styles of parenting advise. To be fair, she is actually very interested in child development, so not actually reading them for advise, but rather because of interest in the research side of things. I just bumble along, but we definitely err on the side of child centred / attachment parenting.

OJ according to Buggie "it' s just providing the middle classes with cheap daycare" Whilst I agree that it is a nonsense to suggest surestart should have funding cut, there is some truth to the above statement, and I think perhaps some sort of means testing could have been put in place. Of course, ideally there would be free provision for all, but the reality is that lots of provision has now been closed, leaving those with little money to do without, whilst those who could have contributed will simply move on to other groups. Anyway, off topic sorry.

I had this problem today when I tried to log in at work. Never happened before.

Can't really coment on his politics, as not heard him talking about them. My wife is a big fan of his "child-focused" style, and to me it seems to make perfect sense. I saw him on another programme a while back, and they were clearly trying to get him to slag of Gina Ford. He didn't rise to it. He said he thought some of her techniques were awful, but he also said he had respect for her, and felt that writers should stik together more, rathr than being against each other. Of course, he may have said that, because she tries to sue anyone who says anything mildly negative about her! Like I say, not seen the item you're talking about, so can't comment, but overall, I think he seems a jolly decent sort of a chap. My wife is a big feminist though, so will be interested to get her take on...

Book recommendations wanted: second baby on the way
Otta replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our daughter loved / loves Za-Za's baby brother. Although I always thought it laid it on a bit thick about how neglected they'll be when baby arrives! -
I'll see if we have any on our allotment, although I think the wife has already picked most of them...

For the record, I never said anything bad about the gowlett's pizza, I just said it didn't set my world on fire. That said, I can't actually imagine any food setting my world on fire. It's just food.

What name to give to private parts?
Otta replied to sophiechristophy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our older daughter is only 2.5, so we'll tend to just say "lets wash your bits". However, as soon as she mentions them, she'll be told the correct names, as my wife was as a kid. Besides, I couldn't bring myself to use any of the names I've seen on this thread to be honest. Think how confusing fifi and the flower tots would become! -

I think there have been people on it (the bloke with the afro a couple of years back) who probably do have musical talent, but see this as their last chance to get a break. They probably believe that once their face has been on tv, they'll be able to do their own thing, and be successful. Alas not.

I've yet to see any x-factor this year, but suspect I'll fall in to it once the live shows start. That was a very good quote about it, and very true. I get annoyed when people dismiss all the contestants as talentless, because there have been some very good singers over the years. Unfortunately though, the x-factor will take that talent, and destroy it.

We were lucky to have my mum near by, but also had a list of phone numbers of close friends who had been warned of the possibility they might have to cone to hospital and sit with our older daughter until my mum could be reached. In the end, all the plans went out the window anyway.

Not heard the latest, but Jah Lush introduced me to White Chalk a while back, and it's beautiful. Not a fan of the Mercury Prize though.

Glory hunter! ;-) Like none of Spains players are money obsessed toss pots. I don't care much for the England of recent years, but should a new bunch come and grab my interest again, I'll be pleased.

I agree that she comes across as milking it for cash. Do you think that excuses it though? Blackburn and Chelsea have bought success, not sure I'd say that of Man U (much as it pains me). Equally, in response to Strafer's post, I'm not sure Chelsea's money would have had such an instant impact without "the special one" at the helm.

No way you should get involved after one day! I'd have been absolutely mortified if my mum had gotten involved, and I'm pretty sure it would have led to relentless p!ss taking. The one time I went through this sort of thing (over a longer period than one day), I had a quiet word with a favourite teacher, who I trusted not to go in all guns blazing, but to keep an eye out. I would also suggest confronting the one who had been his mate, and asking him why he was doing it to me. If all else fails, there is always that timeless comeback to any situation... .. "YA MUM!!!" (Plenty of emphasis on the first M)

My daughter (only 2.5) is absolutely Peppa obsessed. Hope she doesn't get wind of this!!!

Faith schools when you're not religious... wrong?
Otta replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I certainly don't think it would be wrong to send you child to a CofE school, Catholic would be a different matter, but you'd never get in to one of them without attending church anyway. I definitely don't think they'll have religion stuffed down their necks, they'll probably do a nativity at Christmas though. What is absolutely wrong in my book, is people attending a church for a few weeks, just to get a school place!
