Have you finished AC2 yet? That's a game that I do quite like, but get bored of quite quickly, and have to come back to. I used to be the type who would never move on to another game until I'd finished one, but have about 5 on the go now. Piers, I'll give dragon age a go this week, as I've only had one quick session with it, but if I'm not getting on with it, you're welcome to see how you get on.

I got dragon age origins second hand a couple of weeks ago. Not sure I can arsed with it though. Still have GTA4 to play, but it hasn't exactly grabbed me. Really want LA Noir, but will probably wait til the price drops a bit.

I've picked it up a few times in the shop and been tempted. Having read that rave, I think I'll go for it on pay day.

I've never lived on an estate like that, but when I've visited friends on thm, I've always had the impression that people know each other, and look out for each other. Of course, that might just be wishful thinking.

Why do you post these threads then, if you don't want anyone to comment (unless it's a comment to agree with you)? That isn't meant to be nasty, but it is something I notice in The Family Room quite a bit. On the surface, a kid of 4 shouldn't be out alone, and you probably did do the right thing, as it's better to be safe than sorry. I do suspect though, that the kid is well known on the estate, and has lot of people looking out for him.

I'm not clear which playground it is. The one I thought it was is not effected by traffic. It's just to the left of that path that runs between the estate and the park.

If they can get away with crap customer services, they will. The can not get away with crap child protection services!

Exactly, calling child protection is not the same as calling to query your council tax bill.

Whilst in the park with my daughter the other day, my wife called me. Whilst getting my phone out of my picket, I lost sight of her. I soon found her, but the absolute dread that hits you is incredible!

To be fair to zeban, you might not know what having kids is like until you have them, but equally, if something doesn't sit right with you, it's unlikely that having kids will change that.

Perhaps he can be seen from their balcony. Not saying that is great, but not as bad as just sending him off and out of sight.

I blame channel 4 for ever putting that horrid Jo Frost woman on the telly. Saw her talking to the parents of a child with learning disabilities like she was some sort of expert. How can they let this happen, she could be doing serious harm.

I read from newmother's post that she is against putting them in the garden, not necessarily against sending them to their room. Hope I'm not misrepresenting you there NM.

Finally, I have worked in social services, and currently work in childrens services. I suspect a call like this wouldn't lead to much, but it would certainly not be ignored. Everything is noted when it comes to potential child protection issues. No Local Authority wants to end up with a Baby P situation, so they will be very careful to make sure everything is done properly.

Yeah, "go to your room" has been used for as long as families have lived in houses where the kids have their own rom. I don't really dig the naughty step thing, but that's just me. I don't know, just the thought of putting them out in the garden, and locking them out there doesn't sit well with me. I think I'd actually find it worse than having them indoors, as I just couldn't be "strong" and listen to them crying to come in. I guess with a kid of around 5, who could understand exactly why you were doing it for a few minutes, it's cool, but younger than that, I'm not convinced they'll really get it. Please don't take this as me calling anyone who uses this technique a cruel parent. I'm just saying that it wouldn't be for me. I will say again though, that if people just do it for a bit of peace, then they ARE nasty cruel parents, and should never have had kids. And I'll stand by thet.

Go in to the garden and give the kids treats over the fence. That'll piss the parents off!

I?m not sure I'd think this worthy of a call to social services at this stage, but I'm pretty sure a child protection team wouldn't ignore any call.
