the vale pub - changes afoot
StraferJack replied to chrisharvey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Back on topic - the place is going through some fairly extensive refurbs - kitchen closed, real ale pumps and lines being replaced, exterior being repainted, new wooden floor laid down etc The new setup might be a partnership more than a complete change of owner but it's clearly nothing like previous "new manager" installations. It's looking very promising and I'll be checking it out plenty -
Lee Jasper: "Black People in the UK Cannot Be Racist."

And "the telegraph" chippy. Which is where bite usually reads this stuff I'm Sure -
"there are many people in the Conservative Party that espouse the older liberal conservative ethos " I don't doubt that for a second. They will fight the fight. And they will lose Wasn't there similar plans when The Big Council Home sell off happened in the eighties? Does anyone think the money was used to replcae that housing stock adequately? Has something changed? The money which the proposals will bring in will be lost to various departments and there won't be enough left behind I'm not trying to suggest the proposals are "a front" - just that they are aspirational and won't be implemented with robust enough controls, and will have an all too predictable outcome
-
I should also add that I'm not against change, or even these proposals, by default. If implemented properly then happy days. But given the source and the record of governments past? You'd have to be naive to believe the end result will match the proposals
-
Bottom line: that new housing? Won't get built "but but but but but!!.. "ad infinitum doesn't matter. It won't get built. Of COURSE lip service has to be paid to the idea of building from the proceeds. No Policy would get off the ground otherwise... But anything that does get built will be a shadow of what's lost But that once-scary-but-now attractive property bought to specifically look after poor people? Gone to them forever

No, I do believe you - was just adding something I noticed everywhere this weekend Any pub, anywhere on a sunny weekend evening is usually far too loud for me these days to be fair Bit diasspointed that the pub haven't made any representation on here - they were certainly active when they were setting the place up

There are posters who might be bullied on this or other forums But it's fair to say that anyone starting a thread about lady d, udt, me or even *bob* isn't bullying anyone... Merely highlighting the sometimes absurd nonsense that high profile posters contribute. He is also wrong to point out that people hide behind keyboards.. Most people on this thread will have met me or know who I am to see.

Nothing wrong with your analysis at all. In October

Why is India Still a Recipient of British Aid Money...
StraferJack replied to Beer in The Evening?'s topic in The Lounge
As this story made teh front page of the Express and no other national paper, but you didn't read it BiTE, where exactly DID you come across this story anyway? -
you miss my point - I'm not disputing (ho ho) that you said it last year - my point was that you said it well into the season when things were already shaping up wheras when you said earlier today (ie before the season has started) "as i said last year", the inference was that you predicted a tight race before the season had started. Perhaps you didn't mean to - but it isn't comparing like for like
-
"As I said last year, it's going to be tight between City & Utd again." did you? before last season all I can find from you on here is the following: "If Man City are to be genuine title contenders this season then they need to acquire a top notch playmaker in midfield." You did say towards end of october it was going to be tight between them, but after the various tonkings meted out by them that was an easier call to make than pre-season

just shows how elected representatives are damned if they do and damned if they don't james doesn't express and opinion means he is ignoring the people who voted him in and has his "own agenda" james does express an opinion based on the apparent majority of people and his opinions are "biased" Sometimes an issue really isn't that divisive - in this case a back street pub is over-reaching it's support with a 2:00am licence application and it's entirely appropriate for James to call that silly
-
I my other posts, I allowed for the variables which could see Man Utd win the totle and Arsenal collapse- it's entirely possible But I am more optimistic this pre-season than I have been for a while so even tho' it doesn't make apparent sense to say Arsenal will finish above Utd, for now I'm sticking with it
-
agreed RD, just fancied seeing the breakdown It's still good money as far as I can see. I may regret that of course.. he may have several seasons uninjured and combine with Rooney in a way only imagined at Arsenal, and could provide the platform for United to rebuild around And yet... something about the dynamic (RVP and Man Utd/Fergie) seems askew. Unlike Stapleton, who was a Man Utd fan anyway or it could just be me hoping against hope for a reversal of Arsenal's barren years, and our new signings will be the missing link we have looked for Either way, the cards have been thrown up in the air in a manner not seen for a while, so it'll make the new season more interesting I think Man City will stay on top, maybe second. I see Chelsea struggling again after the di Matteo honeymoon period is over. I see Spurs falling away after the pressure takes it's toll on AVB So Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal have it all to play for, with plenty of changes in all 3 teams of course the changes could have a negative effect and we could see them drop further than expected and leave room for other teams to come in. That would be good
-
Have you got the source of that 15 versus 22/24 million breakdown?
-
Would I have preferred RVP to stay? Yes Do I wish he hadn't gone to Utd specifically? Yes Am I glad Arsenal will no longer be over-reliant on one player? Yes Was the deal good business? Yes (24 million? joke all you want but his injury record is digy and it is a gamble for fergie) Am I more confident than I have been before last few seasons? Yes. Only pre-season but loving the look of new signings Do I think Arsenal wil finish above Utd this year? Yes I think people are understandably purring at the thought of a Rooney/RVP partnership, but something about this strikes me as slightly mis-matched. We'll see...

But you can head up to Skehans -combining a decent pint/whiskey with a Thai restaurant attached
