  1. Messi unquestionably awe-inspiring But let's not forget he plays in a team 10 points behind the league leaders
  2. It's an argument I have often enough with arsenal fans, never mind anyone else Yes I'd rather we won trophies but on balance yeah I'm happy. Seasons are frustrating but interesting. And unlike most of the other big clubs, we are in a sound financial footing. Chelsea or man city could make rangers or Portsmouth look like a model of stability if their owners up and leave
  3. maxxi - worth saying as well that I don't think anyone has portrayed your posts "as though I was against a new maternity ward or meals on wheels" My responses have largely to posts by ED - NAGAIUTB for example
  4. It would be a brave or foolish team who had a gameplan of "let's not bother unless to get within a goal, then..." Arsenal's season has been another dud - 'tis true but that's not the same thing as building on what you have Entirely possible (nay probable?) that we got beaten by a couple of goals last night. People didn't expect anything like those early goals (nor with any conviction) In the context of the last month where we have come back twice against big teams, the difference this year is that we are finishing (touch wood) on an upward trend, compared to recent seasons where we promised much by Feb only to disintegrate completely. Dress it up as YOU like, but the last 3 games against big teams has shown a different, more spirited Arsenal. And for a team which doesn't spend fortunes that's no small positive
  5. not every cost is a bad thing tho - it's looking at just one side of a balance sheet More pleasant shopping experience = more people shopping = more money spent = area doing better than just not spending anything It's arguable that this particular expenditure doesn't = more spending - I'm not claiming it's definitely the case. But an attitude of "stop spending any money" is a bit "cost of everything, value of nothing" as well
  6. As well as the new Exhibiton Rooms, House of Tippler and Rye Hotel reincarnation, notices have gone up in Black Cherry windows about "exciting" new venture there soon. We'll see and all that but a new circuit certainly livens things up
  7. And another reminder that I can and do drive. So that, you know, qualifies me as a "car driver". Shocking isn't it? i don't see the world as b&w as you try and say I do My beef is with people complaining about the new crossings - not much fussed if they drive or don't. but I do suspect many of them happen to just be driving down LL, inconvenienced by crossings, because they can't be fagged walking full stop - much less 40 yards That is not an unfair point. Much less propaganda.
  8. now now, play nice - I never said anything of the sort in that post What I was getting at was what's with the beef against people wanting to cross a road at a more convenient spot? Probably people complaining about the extra crossings also walk as well as drive - so why the complaints? Genuine question. Why do so many people drive to Lane from short distances (not talking about people driving from further away) when they could walk? I';m not complaining if they do btw - but it's a bit rich to take the "easy option" and then complain if other people (who may also have driven. or not. I don't care) want a similar "easy option"
  9. come on lashings, you're all take and no give - what sort of things do YOU like and that'll help people know if they like the cut of you and your American ways (fall?) ;-) You are moving to a cracking area and you'll do just fine. But what gives with the move and not knowing anyone? Job? Time of life?
  10. well, Milan became a bit more organised but mostly it was Arsenal running out of steam I think. Ox and Walcott went off with niggles, not much on the bench so it just drifted past us I'm happier with the way we played than I am gutted about not getting through tbh. We don't have the squad to progress much further AND get a spot in the league so all in all I'll take it 2 things tho - UEFA have charged Arsenal for fairly innocuous (and accurate) comments. And dear god that ref was lame beyond belief. He wasn't biased, just lame But some of the "banter"ish comments on here about last night seem a bit petty compared to the events and drama in the game. Props to otta and others for recognising the positives
  11. I didn't mean just the CPT regulars - by regular drinkers I meant all the forumites who are most likely to be social and go drinking anyway. I quite like the new name btw - nice connection to the old name
  12. yep - green ink brigade inded EP PaulK - a man who has never expressed a negative opinion of others lest he be called jusge and jury. We could all learn a lesson from him
  13. railings = B.A.D Traversing London is much easier since so many have been removed Am I misunderstanding or have a couple of posters berated people for not wanting to walk 40 yards just to cross the road? Because the problem with installing crossings is that it inconveniences people who happen to not want to walk more than 5 yards to their car?
  14. of course PaulK could care less about the OP - he's FAR happier putting the boot into the established forum, as his post history shows
  15. I suspect it's going to happen by default anyway KK - with both this and HoT opening on the Lane on teh same day, most of the regular drinkers will be dropping in at some point or other
  16. Anyone NOT know how this thread is going to pan out?
  17. Ah UDT, so it was YOU at those early Lucky 7 nights at the Gowlett, playing Cancer Bats and No Innocent Victims records, before the cheese took over Anyway I'm going to nominate Gary Numan as a deeply unfashionable act with a solid body of work (and a staggering waste of plastic from about 1983-2000). But his stuff since about 2000 has been pretty darn good in an "ooh I heard NiN and it changed my life!" kind of way
  18. If I'm honest, it had better be an important death as well Objectively I agree with you Moos - an in theory I quite like a phone call from someone I don't see often But in practice, especially with mobile phones, the number of times people do call and I'm with someone else,it just seems rude to tell the person who has bothered to meet face to face to hang on. A text to say "been a while we should catch up" is just a better way to lead in I think
  19. I wish, with all of my heart, this was true on trains and buses. What we need is fewer calls and more quality
  20. Ah I see the subject has changed I see where people are coming from - an "how are you" text after a long spell can seem impersonal. On the other hand if it has been a while, there are probably good reasons and an impromptu phone call can be incovenient - a text saying "how are you" is therefore useful as a feeler for availability rather than the start of a text only conversation
  21. It's not that I like texts, I just loathe phone calls. If you are phoning me it had better be a life changer I hate other people phoning other people. Just stop talking unnecessary bobbins in public people. You're one a bus are you? Whoop de do (sorry giggirl. Love your work etc. just another take)
  22. Do people really need to be told that? The sort of person who is going to yap through a gig is going to do it because they are a gobshite, not because the did or didn't read terms and conditions
  23. A link here That one is to the Telegraph, but most papers reported the findings in similar fashion
  24. No, of course it didn't the world is going to hell in a hand cart etc etc Not that I don't have some sympathy with late noise etc but unless it's a regular occurrence at the Rose, writing it off as a one-off seems like a better bet than saying "it never happened before"
  25. Innate talent I expect
