  1. say what you like about Crow and posturing, but I would argue his unions members are well served by him
  2. Another Asterix fan here. Plenty of TinTin books around the house growing up, I just never found them that interesting
  3. I?m not sure aspiring to (or even pretending to) have ?progressive? values bestows superhuman abilities on anyone. Human beings, and those involved in politics expecially, are fallible and prone to showing their unnatractive side, grubbing around in the dirt for whatever they can find (votes? Dignity?) . And lord knows there is plenty to make one blush at the moment. But without wanting to condone or dismiss that, there is a bigger picture. Historically, both left and right have their moments in the sun ? to different levels in different countries. I?m no Labour party apologist or member ? but if we accept them as ?the left? in these arguments I would say they are in better shape than the tories were for year after year in the late 90s, early 21st century. I?m all for holding them accountable for falling short of their aspirations but sometimes it appears that even those aspirations are the target . If the Libdems had a majority at the election we would be looking at quite a different first year ? even with the cuts Unlike you I don?t believe Labour broke the economy. I don?t think Lib Dems looked at the books and saw no choice. Cuts are needed, all agreed but whilst I agree that history may be kinder to Nick Clegg, I think history will also show just how much the current Tory leadership corrupted the public acceptance of the need for cuts to smuggle as much ideology (that concept you loathe) onto the books. I think Clegg himself will, when the split happens, have much to say about this particular aspect of the government
  4. Depends on how het up you want to get I suppose some background here
  5. I agree with most if ???? points. Apart from his bizarre preoccupation with "the left". Certainly some mindless stuff comes from that direction but I suggest it's your preoccupation with the left that makes it stand out for you. The right are just as vile towards clegg. As for the media...2 newspapers which sell barely half a million between them compared to the millions and millions sold by telegraph and times? I'm not knocking any of them here, just pointing out clegg is getting a raw deal from all angles, not either side especially
  6. I'm aware that doesn't make much sense but when I saw PeckhamgateCrasher's name pop up I felt a challenge coming on
  7. Perhaps Every Chap Knows How And Many Groovers Are Taking Every Chance Round About SE22 Holding Every Rose
  8. The village is poorly served I agree. We disagree about how bland the sauce is in rocca but your alternatives are just as bland. Ask? Not only bland but take tips from staff to pay minimum wage. And the buzz in rocca is much better than ask or strada
  9. "friends" of pizza express? Or actual employees. They are a little worried methinks Le Piaf was empty constantly because it was rubbish. Rocca is far from empty because people can see it's far from rubbish. It isn't perfect but to dismiss it in favour of Pizza Express (by 3 first timers)?
  10. another slightly OTT dismissal and also a first post - i see
  11. Deoends on what your definition of a good pub is really The Blythe Hill Tavern on far end of Stanstead Road is a cracking old-school boozer Dartmouth Arms - I'm with Otta. Bar Question - haven't been for a while but a good spot for some pizza and beer before a gig at the Hob Hob - probably where I go most, but the bar downstairs on a quiet night can be a bit of a downer Capitol - here be dragons
  12. if you are that end of LL, a 12 bus will get you straight to Westminster in about 25-35 minutes at that hour of the morning.
  13. whichever ethnic background he/she is is moot - they have no credibility because they have been caught lying
  14. not sure you know what paranoid means - but just for clarity Jeremy posted the following "dully Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No I'm not black That's not what you said a couple of months ago: dully Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Me as a black youth went to university as did all > the other black youths in my year at school. " so is dully a liar or not?
  15. Jeremy deserves more kudos for his skewering a few posts back...
  16. huncamunca is correct tho'. There are some tragic cases around. Some of them get banned repeatedly and then have the nerve to hijack their partner's account just so they can post on here desperate or what??
  17. I'll bet a few stallholders woke up yesterday morning and cursed the weather - but it brightened up considerably and it was a lovely day like maxxxi and PeckhamRose, some variety on the stall front would have have been nice I think. On the plus side I thought the food offerenings were much improved These guys in particular showed the mexican on LL what CAN be done with mexican food
  18. to think there are people who will condemn the US assasination of OBL and the subsequent partying on the streets and yet want to take to the streets and party here when Thatcher dies is a bit nauseating I couldn't stand the woman, her party or her policies then or now - but that is entirely different to laughing at an old woman who can't even remember her husband passed away years ago. In fact, watching her (or any old person) in such a state is just painful
  19. Mod (if pushed)
  20. Looks like someone has escaped from the conspiracy theory thread
  21. The reasoning behind both Av and fptp (or Any system) is imperfect So that alone is no reason to vote no Nor do I have much time for anyone who said the campaign for either yes or no wasn't good enough. Do people only form an opinion based on a campaign? Surely not A chance for change, in a country that does nothing but mutter and complain about the system, was passed up. If nothing else a change might have taken us into uncharted waters which is at least interesting.
  22. I suspect the largely patronising posts on here are representative of why many scots don't feel as included as others might think. Like an abusive partner there is plenty of "oh you think you have it bad now? You wouldn't last 2 minutes out there" If the scots have a referendum (probable) and if they vote for separation (debatable) then good luck to them.
  23. Mockney piers Exactly the same thing happened to me. I almost had to remind myself how to read English
