  1. Beer is very nice indeed - that whole section of coast is great. Obviously overrun in the summer but if you get a chance do go Branscombe is also good but beware of THAT road down to it. Not for the faint hearted driver
  2. This was my favourite quote from pk:
  3. pub crawls = fun arranged pub crawls = a lot less so The spontenaeity is gone
  4. ???? - so often considered and wise on many subjects. But when it comes to politics you do seem to short-circuit a little bit It's not that you are totally wrong, it just lacks the usual perspective The adversarial nature of the british political system engineers responses like Miliband's. It doesn't make it less disappointing but not only am I not surprised, you could reverse the roles, or swap any names and I would be equally unsurprised. Like you I wish there was someone to rise above it all but if that person exists, the probability is they wouldn't have gotten that far - their proclivity to say the unsayable would have seen them "repositioned" long before proximity to power. Who is at fault for that? As Loz points out the media play a huge role but I point the finger more squarely at the population - a bunch of whining and more importantly, contrary bunch of oiks you couldn't wish to meet. That's me generalising and being unfair of course - but it's true enough Several factors are also at play in "now vs then". History gives us the long view, and a narrative that doesn't exist for more recent times. And for all the historical weightiness of a Churchill or what have you, I'd rather not have to live through World Wars to benefit from it Globally too there is a homogenisation- of culture, of values. It's inevitable that politicians will reflect that And lastly, and somewhat unkindly, I might suggest that as we get older we have reached the stage where these new leaders look too darn young to do the job!
  5. Only one man can tell us Only one man cares
  6. Pk. You are being weird now. You are simply stating the same as Clarke but denying it
  7. * taps fingers waiting for interesting response *
  8. remember that if people want to believe made-up fairytales, we have to respect that right. And their feelings when they catch us making fun of them
  9. anyway - back on topic people. I might be indisagreement with the "over caution" but it's a serious topic And it's in the Family room not the lounge
  10. So even tho Loz has shown you the transcript where it's obvious he didn't imply that at all, you are ignoring that as well as ignoring teh wider point Clarke was trying to make about being helpful to rape victims?
  11. Because they didn?t see they were doing anything wrong? Because it was an ?in the moment? kind of thing? If I had to explain myself to everyone around me when I was videoing at goose green fair, lest they think I was a pervert there wouldn?t be time It?s possible these guys were dodgy. Possible. But I wouldn?t be so quick to make the assumption based on what I?ve read here. Nor am I saying that parents shouldn?t be cautious ? but it is possible to be too cautious, no?
  12. Was it not possible that the child was actually doing something amusing and giggleworthy ? I was at goose green fair the other week and I recorded several instances
  13. No Sue, no there isn't just like there isn't for the rest of us who use the forum.. and yet we manage And anyone who posts on here as often as you or me, can easily find the time in the day to prioritise as we go If it's got a phone number/email/address in it, copy the details when you read it if it doesn't have any of those things what are the chances of you needing to refer to it again? And if there are other criteria, then apply that and save those messages too
  14. I saw recently that the Montpelier (Choumert Rd I think) has a small cinema room out the back, closed off from the pub - I think it holds about 20 people. You could have a word with them

    Rapture

Everyone all set? It's this Saturday after all.. it's what credit cards were invented for!
  16. I would object to either over a cinema but come on even I can see there is a world of difference between the CoE and this shower of Johnny-come-latelies It's like a real-life version of the TV-evangelists you see in the US send us your money and you WILL be saved! Well, I will anyway...
  17. yep bad luck Frankito but hopefully you will rough this episode out and start to enjoy living here I can't buy you a drink, but as it's the thought that counts, have the thought (actually if you come along to the Barry Barry race I will buy you a drink)
  18. is he being hung out to dry? I say yes. If you listen or read what he said, and then what has been spun out of it it's like parallel worlds
  19. How come snorky never contributes to threads like this? I'm 100% behind RosieH's sentiments - the alternative to not engaging in this way is too depressing I have, variously, sold, lent, given away and borrowed via this forum. Often with complete strangers. In that time I have only once had something not come back to me that should but it didn't put me off If you are worried, the old "check their posting history" trick should provide enough clues as to what kind of person they are. If they are new, then it's just down to how they come across in the request I would say that of all the aspects of this forum, it is the channels for doing this kind of thing that give it genuine community status rather than just another online forum where anonymous posters bang their weary heads together So yes ed_pete, you were unlucky, but you?re alive and well, and a little bit of their soul has died, not yours
  20. Toptree. Thanks for your singular contributions. You are a mentalist.
  21. and snorky would never, ever resort to that kind of behaviour. Heavens no
  22. Ideally we all would have had notice yes, but if admin was doing some work and discovered that so many people had so many messages taking up limited server space, he may have had to make a quick call If he was to email everyone (and I'm not sure the phorum software used allows that) and allow time for people to read them (2 days? what if people are away? a week? 2 weeks?) the the forum continues to grind to a halt Given that when you go into the messages section it tells you how many you have used and how many you have available should we not take responsibility ourselves?
