  1. She thought that white middle classes in East Dulwich were boring, less bohemian, less independent minded. LOL.
  2. Mindset is probably the real answer here. Tower Hamlets reorganised their libraries at the end of the nineties where they combined adult learning, lifestyle issues, with their library services but having longer opening hours near retail areas. GIS and market research faciliatated the integration and so are more in tune with their library users. Southwark on the the hand are quite happy in telling the public that they don't have enough money and seemed very much out of touch with people's needs. They think that spending money on marketing and new buildings away from retail centres are enough to convince us that libraries are improving without actually examining library users' needs.
  3. I though Nicholas was very insightful on the planning application. In fact spot on in relation to the national planning framework guidance.
  4. "Funding constraints mean we are focusing on one element of Option 7, the proposal that existing Kent services stop at Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stations at peak periods. " Yes anonymous_third_party, there are plans to have an additional service to Victoria but it's far from certain whether it will happen and certainly won't happen until after April 2014. It's all subjected to funding restraints and franchise agreements. I quoted a part of the TfL website in order to give further info on how difficult this matter can be where Kent rail users were up in arms after hearing that their train service could call at Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill stations. It would be interesting to see what happens as Boris Johnson has indicated in his election manifesto about exploring this solution once the SLL service has been axed. There's a Southeastern consultation, not to be confused with the current combined Thameslink one, taking place and due to end September for a new franchise starting in April 2014. So you may want to give them your views on an additional Victoria service along the South London line route. The daft thing here is that the South London Line is the cheapest and most effective solution than the seven proposed options on the TfL website for providing a Victoria service.
  5. Just to clarify in response to antantant and Otta's posts. Trains from Denmark Hill to Victoria after 8 December 2012 once the South London Line has been removed Monday to Saturday - 2 trains per hour throughout the day but no service after 7pm or before 7am. Sunday - no service.
  6. I don't know about you, Otta, but I rather prefer spend more time socialising than travelling. Howver, your post did gave me an idea. An outer London radial pub crawl similar to that of the Circle line.
  7. You're well behind the times, Londboy. Peckham was mentioned as one of the coolest place in London. You wouldn't know what cool is and let's face it M&S will never be cool.
  8. Yes, you can go straight from Denmark Hill to Victoria but not on Sunday, after 7pm or before 7am. Say goodbye to your social life in central London. The frequency of Victoria trains are reduced from 4 trains to 2 trains per hour. Denmark Hill will lose their direct connection to London Bridge after 8 December.
  9. Planning policies have mitigated the effects of urban traffic and car parking spaces for the best part of the last decade. What I don't accept is where people should put up with compromised planning to meet housing targets rather than sustainable living.
  10. London's housing will have to increase to meet population demand. That has been the thinking for the past ten years which no one disputes. All developments must adhere to planning policies which ensures people are not affected detrimentally by living close to developments, ie noise, safety, privacy, etc.

The two points aren't mutually exclusive. It all comes down to housing targets set by Southwark, London Plan and central government. However, just because the population of London is projected to get bigger it doesn't mean that people living near such developments should put up with detrimental effects.

Well said about the anticipated nightmare.
  13. i still feeling the effects of last night's drinking session after playing football for a couple of hours then cycling home. Still, I'm in sound mind. I recommend you go for the LED lights to reduce global warming.
  14. While it's true London population is projected to grow, most of the houses are being built in the Thamesgateway region. This is partly the reason why the Olympics was bidded for in order to attract investments from the private sector.
  15. Th e real Kenneth Williams might be deemed a touch too aggressive for our EDF members, particularly the don't know any betters and dim wits. I also suggest to these poor people to sleep with their lights on, it's true, the bogie man is out to get.

I consider El Pibe's quote as stoking up violent escalation of the situation. Hence my response to clarify EP's actions.

  20. Should M&S ever move into Lordship Lane then I'll be campaigning for a Waitrose as I consider M&S to lower the tone of the area!

I've used Clapham Junction a few times and it's a nightmare station. With the ELL you get off at platform 1 and then you have to bustle through a crowd of people to get to platforms 13/15. It will double travel times from Peckham Rye to Victoria for sure. Although it does open up access to Waterloo it will be quicker to travel to Waterloo East via London Bridge.

But deep down I just get the feeling that they're shedding crocodile tears because they can't argue their case.

M&S has entered into a contract with the freeholder but this subject to increasing the retail space. If you look closely at the application itself there are no plans for customer parking and they make a case that customers will travel to the store by foot or public transport which of course is total poppycock as they'll be an influx of cars to the area.
  25. I don't think MP understands planning laws or read the M&S planning application. His views are devoid of any planning framework. Amost child like innocence in his remarks. Blesss him.
