  1. I'm less excited about this WC than any before. Maybe I've seen too many as 1970 was the highlight. My support for my country of residency appears to flow with how the tabloid headlines are treating them. If they are OTT when England win a game it puts me off, but when they are slated for losing a game I feel sorry for them and the manager. I like this England squad mainly because it doesn't contain 'stars'. That's not to say it doesn't contain some very good players. I suspect the manager is out of his depth but I hope I'm wrong as he is a nice guy. Good luck to them.

Isn't No Deal a distinct possibility as there is no way of resolving the Irish border question without going back of their word or upsetting the DUP? Mind you I'm still hoping the whole thing will collapse a bit like a game of Jenga.

Apparently there were 15+ Tory 'rebels'. Enough to have changed the result. Kicking the can down the road.

A couple of small points regarding the NHS. Most of us pay National Insurance, so you can't say the NHS is free. We pay for it. The budget to spend on homeopathy which was small, has been dropped entirely.
  9. May is only looking lonely (if that's what it is) because she is no craic and has been programmed only to say certain sentences. I'd be bored too even if she is PM.
  10. I don't want to be a spoilsport, but if you knew something at the time which might have helped you, when would you ever learn anything from the experience?
  11. What do bark chippings do? I buy them in a pet shop in Lewisham for the snake I inherited from my son.

Well in Ireland they had one recently and for the most part it went very well. But they have a constitution and to alter it they are obliged to have a referendum. That seems perfectly correct. They do have a part to play in the right circumstances. Here though it was all about party politics.

Joe, to extract the country from the EU is a complex issue (as you say) which the current government has shown itself incapable of dealing with due to TM having to deal with the different factions in her own party. I for one have no confidence that they are capable of deciding what is best for the country, when in my opinion they are deciding what is best for each of them individually. If it's a case of a 'people's vote' or parliament deciding, I will accept it. This is on the proviso that MP's are not whipped into voting one way or another.Leaving will be a disaster in my opinion. A free vote after debate is the best option. Then at least the UK will get the country it deserves.
  15. What is the point of this? Are people protesting about not being able to ride naked?

May has two weeks to come up with a cunning plan https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/government-gives-theresa-may-two-weeks-to-solve-border-issue-1.3516829 The natives (well sort of) are getting restless https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/uk/dup-dismisses-uk-government-s-half-cooked-ideas-on-border-1.3516835

Well at least a commercial venture is keeping some people employed. I was woken up by a group of noisy morris dancers a couple of weeks ago who were performing outside a local pub. I doubt they were being paid and I don't think my reaction would have been any different if they had been. Oh look, silly morris dancers I said to myself, as I got back into bed.
