  17. Don't forget that Peckham Rye Common is in Nunhead and East Dulwich. The aerial photo shows how much damage the speculators did when they built Crimea. Just look west to the equivalent part of Dulwich Manor. John K
  18. Publicity photo for introduction of carriages to south London is headed by A1 Brighton. Brighton ex-works 10 March 1878. Therefore carriages not introduced here before that date. Unless the publicity photo is mis-identified. John K

Not much scalability in running the line into the dead end of the East Dulwich and Nunhead valley. Go east young man. John K

  21. Do you have a date for the introduction of this fixed carriage set on our line? John K
  22. Excellent photo. Particularly as it is an oblique looking SW that covers the whole of East Dulwich. It's interesting to see how much of the historic landscape can be seen embedded in a 2012 photo. John K
  23. I don't yet know what happened between the completion of the Select Committee inquiry and the transfer of the remaining common land to state ownership. It seems that the Select Committee told Bowyer that he had been a very naughty boy, but that he could keep the land he had taken, provided that he promised to make no more land grabs. The extent of the "lost" common land can be seen from this extract from the 1733 map. John K

Did you find any geo-technical analysis of this proposed route? I can't see much of a problem with the Camberwell and Peckham stations as they would both be in the Thames valley. Coming south into our valley for Peckham Rye Common and Honor Oak stations would be an "interesting" engineering challenge. John K
