Has anybody contacted St Johns Ambulance? One or two hopeful first aiders scattered down the route would be helpful.

I dont think that there are any "authentic" curry houses in the immediate area, if by that you mean similar to what you would get in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc. I have found one in South Croydon - full of asian taxi drivers stopping for dhosas and more; I can remember the name at the moment. The rest are down to personal taste. Cafe La is good with a contemporary menu similar to Tandoori Nights (but cheaper), Omrith etc. The rest are good but traditional places that serve anglo-indian food. None of them can afford to be bad as the competition in the area is too fierce. Similarly the Thai places are much of a muchness. You could try Buddah Jazz on Denmark Hill. Most people who have been there (inc me) speak highly of its south east asian food and good service.

Hold on. There is a clash in the ED social calendar. The EDT comedy is on that date and many of the CC Regulars (including holders of the prestigious Order of the Golden Naga and me) want to go to both. How about the 24th?

It is up to Labour to provide a credible offer to the voters to draw them away from the BNP. It would seem (from the BBC) that the BNP voters came from Labour's traditional demographic. It would also seem that, as all of the Westminster parties are smeared by sleaze and in-fighting, voters were going for non-traditional parties or not voting at all. This left the door wide open to the BNP - they offer simplistic solutions to non-existent problems and fears based on people's baser instincts. No doubt the BNP were working hard to turn out their supporters. The big parties are responsible for creating a malaise that caused their support to stay at home. Individuals are responsible for their voting habits, the Parties significantly influence those habits.

Next CC - proposed date is 25 June, suggested venue is either Tandoori Nights or Ganapati. Wot you fink?

I went along in the evening and nobody from the afternoon session was around, so the group was split anyway. So a shift to Friday evening and Saturday afternoons would make no difference and some people may wish to attend both.

Might be worth concidering. Friday night for the full drinks and then Saturday PM for the families. No extra work would be involved as the saturday PM event wouldnt need to be booked, people would just turn up.

Cant see a member of the House of Lords being able to become PM in the 21st Century. It sounds like the Labour party has accepted defeat in the next election, barring a miracle. So why change leader now? Let Gordon limp on to electoral defeat, use him as a scape goat for all the Party's ills and get rid of him. Then stand back for an almighty cat fight between the Blairites and the Brownites which may take years to finish.

I have found the opposite. Ordering my regular prescription from Maceys was like Groundhog Day - "I cant find the prescription, have you ordered from us before? Are you sure? I will look again, which surgery was it again? Oh, The Gardens, I cant actually find your prescription, when did you order it? did you come in? over the phone? etc, etc, etc". Every time I called them. The new lot have these amazing things called a computer and a system - which work.

1 - Butchers Boy, "smoking" the bacon by pouring flavouring chemical all over a bacon joint 2 - Battery chicken farm - removing old birds from the cage by their feet and transferring them into a smaller plastic box for onward transfer to a pie factory 3 - Factory bakery - it was so hot that the experienced workers would casually hold up the production line to allow double amounts of dough to go into half a dozen consecutive tins. Two hours later they would have risen to monstrous proportions and would gum up the oven, so giving us all a break as the engineers sorted things out

From the Peckham Rye station photos you can see how the station building has become boxed in over time. Its a great shame as the current structures make the area feel rather dindgy and threatening. The plans show a great idea to open out the front and make a public space which transform the area.
