  1. Curry club were in there last night and most of us liked it. Somewhat generic in that many refurbished pubs have gone for a variation of that shabby-chic look. However, if it works, I am not criticising, and it works. It probably needs to re-calibrate some of its pricing but it has the fundamentals right. Just goes to prove that if you create an attractive space, people will turn up and spend.
  2. Watsons General Telegraph proved to be a success, good beers, nice atmosphere and good music. Plenty of punters in evidence, so hopefully it will be a success. Omrith too was a success. Eleven people seemed to challenge the speed of service a little but the food was generally considered to be very good, without the oiliness of excessive ghee that can sometimes be experienced elsewhere. The new Young Gentleman Friend of one of our number was greeted enthusiastically some time into our evening and (I think) was given some food on the house. This and the free drinks that we all received at the end, proved that Omrith are most gracious hosts. We will go again and sooner this time. Next meet is on Thursday 3 March. Curry Cabin at 8pm. Meet in Franklins bar at 7pm. http://www.franklinsrestaurant.com/ http://curry-cabin.co.uk/
  3. Excellent. I will book a table for 10 people to give us some flexibility.
  4. Curry Club is 8 years old and still going strong.
  5. About 8 people now. Watsons General Telegraph Pub at 7pm, Omrith at 8pm. http://watsonstelegraph.pub/ http://omrith.com/
  6. Looks like 6 people thus far, Anybody else?
  7. OK, Watsons General Telegraph it is! http://watsonstelegraph.pub/
  8. Restaurants? Take-away? Descend on friends or relatives?
  9. Interesting that the ED Picturehouse displays posters for the Film Club. I was vaguely aware of the Film Club, but had not seen the media identified above. It could well be that the more Art-house feel of the Picturehouse is pulling some people away, but it might also be that the Film club needs to shout louder and show films that are more attractive to film buffs. The club is rather unfortunately position between the ED Picturehouse (for less mainstream fare) and the Peckhamplex (for mainstream films shown cheaply), perhaps its day is done if it doesnt up its game?
  10. I was 13 when I saw Star Wars and it was amazing, but then, I was 13. These latest films are never going to recapture that amazement. I am 40 years older. See the film through the eyes of a 13 year old. It is their film.
  11. I enjoyed it. It was formulaic, but then its Star Wars not a philosophical thesis.
  12. Huh? The size of the cup matters as a "cup" is a specific measurement of volume used by the Yanks, its not a reference to a random receptacle. Whether its 240ml or 8oz a cup, people will have purchased a measuring jug or scales in metric and/or imperial and can either work it out of go on Amazon and buy a Cup measuring scoop for not very much.
  13. Also - somebody left a backpack in the Surma last night. Ali is keeping it for you.
  14. Eleven us turned out for the first meeting of 2016. Good to see some returnees and our second parent in attendance. I think we passed muster and Charlie will be allowed to attend again. The next meeting will be on Thursday February 11th. I am going to suggest Omrith ( http://omrith.com/ ) on Forest Hill Road. Meet at Watsons General Telegraph pub ( http://watsonstelegraph.pub/ ) at 7pm. Omrith at 8pm.
  15. Anybody else? 7pm in The Bishop 8pm in Surma XX
