  1. Hi Mary. I am afraid that we have a long standing approach of evenly splitting the bill. We have people drinking alcohol and soft drinks, we have veggies and carnivores, so trying to identify what people have had and should pay for becomes way too complicated. This has never been a problem on the day as there is little difference in the overall cost
  2. Due my extensive travel commitments, its the 2nd Thursday in July next. Dulwich Tandoori at 20.00, meet in the EDT at 19.00ish. All welcome!! 😀
  3. Of course! EDT at 7.15 ish and then Jaflong at 8ish, via an off-licence for drink. XX
  4. Does anybody know if the heli-pad on KCH has opened yet? Given the areas mentioned these could be proving flights to assess the best ingress and egress routes, navigation points and emergency landing spots. They would take place at various times of day to assess different light conditions and wind patterns.
  5. Looks like it, or another, is zipping backward and forward. Is the Air-ambulance from Kings?
  6. DVM, plesse come along. Most people turned up solo the first time.
  7. Fiat 126, faded red. Air cooled engine, little sound proofing.
  8. Rubbish. The analysis of a simpleton. Joining a group for the first time means that you have little initial influence, few long term allies and and no sustained economic engagement. We have been part of the EU for decades and so would be walking away from the significant influence that we have had, letting down long term allies and leaving behind significant invesrment.
  9. Tourism creates jobs for young people. The more tourists come to the Southwark's South Bank the more their spend ripples through the community. The docklands have gone, no more horny handed Dockers earning an honest crust. Tourism and leisure must suffice. The new Routemasters are not my favourite bus, they are claustrophobic, but then so were the old Routemasters. Designed to do the same job, they are quite similar. Odd that. The problem with traffic is that it grows to fill the available space. Build another road bridge and it will soon become full, no relief. A pedestrian/ cycle bridge will at least allow traffic and people to be separated. That it is also a new park for London is a bonus.
  10. The new Routemasters are small because they have to be. They are used on services that include roads that normal size double deckers cannot easily use. That is why bendy buses were tried, they are more maneuverable, but their length caused problems for other road users and they tended to end up bunched together. On some routes they were replaced by single deckers on others the new purpose designed Routemasters. So, not a vanity project, but required for s specific need. I welcome the Garden Bridge. Yes, of course the money could be spent on other more worthy causes, but that is always the case whenever a new high profile development is mooted. No wobbly bridge, no London eye, no Tate Modern, no Globe Theatre, no Borough Market, no South Bank Centre. The place would be dull and grey but terribly worthy.
  11. Exposed - as in his gentleman's area or his bum?
  12. Costa tend to be the first to move into an area as it regenerates, they do seem to be more daring than Neros or Starbucks. I say this as someone who has spent that past 25 years schleping round the streets of London looking for a coffee shop in between meetings. That Costa is on its way doesnt automatically mean that the others will follow, but in the case of Peckham, I suspect that they will as and when they find suitable plots. ED is of course a thriving and up-market commercial centre that has its fair share of indie coffee shops, it also has limited suitable coffee shop sites. Peckham has been on its @rse for years, i snow on the up and has plenty of plots that could be developed by coffee shop chains, whilst supporting the indies that already exist. The challenge of course is to harness the economic regeneration of Peckham to the advantage of local people.
  13. OK. No problem. We will postpone to 9 June at Jaflong.
  14. OK, can anybody else? or is this being the bank holiday week creating prior commitments? I am happy to push it back a week if that would help?
  15. All good. Who else, this Thursday obvs. X
  16. Name the ship the HMS David Attenborough, the crew uniform could be crumpled chinos and pale blue shirt, half-untucked. The ship's life boat should be named Boaty McBoatface, as a lasting memorial to our dying democracy.
  17. Nice. I liked.
  18. Louis de Bernieres, Captain Corelli is well known, but his Latin American trilogy are great literature and laugh out-loud funny with some magical-realism thrown in to give you a good mix of fantasy-humour-narrative https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_de_Berni%C3%A8res If you fancy something chewier how about some Gabriel Garcia Marquez? One Hundred Years of Solitude is a good start https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Garc%C3%ADa_M%C3%A1rquez
  19. An elite group of 4 of us enjoyed Tandoori Night's cuisine. Lovely food at a reasonable price. Next meeting will be at 8pm on Thursday 5 May at Jaflong. Meet for drinks in the EDT at 7pm
  20. Hmmmm. Dropping like flies. Oh well.
