Hi I am considering these 2 schools for my daughter to start in year 3. I would be grateful for opinions from parents with children attending these schools.

Does anybody know what was the furthest distance offered this year and last year. Also, when is the next open day? -

Goodrich, Heber and Harrys schools opinions
Sol replied to Sol's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you Pickle. That's very positive. -
Sorry to bump this up but have a question regarding the number of children who took the SATS last year.Do all children in year 6 have to sit the exams? It says there were 94 eligible pupils at Goodrich; so the school have more than 30 children in each class then?, that is if they were a 3 form?. Didn't they have a bulge class last year? so elegible children would have been 120? For Bessemer it says 47. I thought this is a 3 form school, so it would have been 90 children eligible; unless there were only 2 year 6s last year, but even so there would have been 60 children. Or perhaps not all the classes were full. For Heber it says 55, which sounds about right if they are a 2 form school and not all the classes were full. I am a bit confused with this and would appreciate your opinions to clarify. Can the schools exclude some children from the exams due to SEN or not being ready? If this is the case, this would completely change the way you read the results. Thank you

Hi I am applying for primary school and I am thinking of putting Goodrich as a first choice. I don't know anybody with children at this school and would appreciate opinions from people with children attending this school; what's the school like? does the school have any sport and music provision? what's the teaching and teachers like? Goodrich is our closest school with Heber being the second and Harrys third. I am concerned about the outdoor space for Heber and Harrys. If you have children at these schools could you please let me know if you/your child find this to be an issue. My child likes open spaces and hates crowds. Also, is there any sport and music provision at these schools? What about extra curricular clubs/activities? Thank you

Sydenham School (the state girls school) feedback
Sol replied to Sol's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you all. These comments are very helpful and reassure my feelings about the school -
After visiting many local secondary schools during the open days I agree with people that say there are many other good secondary states schools in Dulwich and surrounding areas not just Charter

Sydenham School (the state girls school) feedback
Sol replied to Sol's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you Beccal; I had a good feeling about the school and I feel it is mproving more every year; it is good to hear people with children there are happy. -
Furthest place offered this year was 1.3 kilometres safe walking distance; next year it will be straight line (as the crow flies)
-
All the people I know with Children there are happy and results are good but you need to go and see it by yourself to see if it is the right fit for you and your child; different people have different expectations.

Sydenham School (the state girls school) feedback

I gather there are not many people in Dulwich with girls attending this school or perhaps people is just getting tired of schools threads and can't bother to reply -
Hi I went to visit Sydenham School and was very impressed; I think there is good discipline, the girls wear their uniform very well and were articulate (at least the ones that showed us around); also the girls that gave the speech were very good. Facilities are excellent as they just spent 25 millions and everything is nice and new. I would like to hear opinions from parents with girls attending this school: what's the sport and art at the school?; my daughter is both sporty and creative. She likes science and maths too which I understand is the strenght of the school. I heard teaching is good too but can't tell from an open day. I would appreciate opinions from people who know the school. Apparently they only do settings for maths from year 7 and english from year 8; just wondering if they also do settings for Science. Thank you

One of my friends?s daughters goes to Elmgreen and both daughter and mother are very happy with it. This shows how important it is to visit the schools and go to the open days to get a feel for it, perhaps more than one visit. I have visited schools that I never considered and have been pleasantly surprised; I have also visited secondary schools which have a very good reputation and I always thought we were going to apply for and have been extremely disappointed. I have noted schools that are not that well known are working harder and doing great things to build up a good reputation; on the other hand schools which already have that reputation and benefit from a good intake of bright kids are resting on their laurels.

I suggest you try asking is mumsnet; There's more traffic there. It seems to me there could be an underlying reason but she only feels safe at home to release the stress she is going through. Cranial osteopathy may help if there is a physical cause; it may help her to feel more relaxed. I have taken my daughter to see Ken Gordon in town; He is very good but expensive; she was a bit like like your daughter sometimes but has changed a lot since seeing him.

Nursery in or near Dulwich Village - any recommendations?
Sol replied to sara and paul's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nelly's Dulwich Woods Little Fingers Best thing is to go and look at them and see what's the best for your child -
Just calculating the days you will have off with 3 days per week and with the new 5 day a week deal; you will get less days if you do 5 days school term.
