  1. Hi a comedian mentioned getting heckled at the East Dulwich Tavern during his set on the Royal Variety show tonight. I cant remember his name but he has a false leg and he said someone with a false ear heckled his at a night in the EDT- did that really happen or was it just made up as part of his act?
  2. hi we have never had it delivered on overhill road but do sometimes manage to pick up a copy in the plough. found it interesting ans always read it if I see a copy.
  3. hi yes thanks again for organising last night, it was lovely, we had a great night and loved my treatment-my nails have never looked as nice in years!, well done and hope you were pleased.
  4. how does it work with the fashion extra for the first 30 people? are the goody bags named so the first 30 on the guest list gets those ones or is it the first 30 through the door on the night? sorry just has some of my friends that are coming who are not on the forum and I didnt know the answer, thanks for your hard work to give us all a nice night out. leanne
  5. oh no thats horrible, bless her, was going to suggest taking the kids up to winter wonderland in hyde park to see santa but not sure if it would work. We took our little one and it was fab, its like thorpe park meets christmas. It was lovely(although we went on a wed, imagine a weekend would be a nightmare) but there is a christmas market with the little chalets selling gifts and mulled wine and chritmas pastries then there is rides which is roughly 2 tokens(?1 per token) then right at the back there is santa land which has a little train going around it and kiddie rides and stalls but there was santa there too a really nice one, free to go and see him(its allfree to walk around only pay for rides)you dont get a present from him only a little bag of choc footballs but Id prefer that than spending money to see him and get a tatty present. You can then pay for a pic if you want it which is ?8. We thought it was a lovely afternoon out, christmas smells and songs playing all the way around, really got us in the mood. Was wondering if theis kind of setting would help sanity girl's little one as there is pics of santa all over but in an exciting setting etc. also you dont go into a scary grotto he is sat in a house with a totally open front so you can see him from quite far away so your little one could view what was happening from afar.
  6. hey clare, I had Ella at kings and it was fine, as Ive said we had complications and they were very worried about Ella but they kept me very calm and I was unaware of the potential problems allowing me to get on with things without worrying. It is a very busy dept and I was kept waiting 3 hours to have my stitches done after the birth as emergencies kept coming in taking priority but that was not the hospitals fault, It could quite easily have been a quiet night and I could have been in and out within a few hours if the labour had gone smoothly. The midwives were wonderful and I think once you have had the tour around you will get a different feeling for the place, its a very different atmos to the dept where you have your scan's done etc I certainly felt better about it once id looked around. Also for my first birth it was very very quick(2hrs 35 from start to finish!) so by the time I got in the car I was in full labour and the journey to kings was the most uncomfortable horrible journey of my life(also the journey home with lots of stitches, speed bumps would not have been welcome!)and it felt like it took hours to get there. Once to are in full labour you just want to get there as quickly and as easily as possible, If there is not much difference with statistics etc go for ease and comfort. xx
  7. I think it will start being offered to under 5's after christmas in london once the at risk groups are done. Said on local news this was expected to be after christmas very early jan.
  8. hi saw a mom and kids get on the bus yesterday with giraffe balloons and wondered what it was. is it a restaurant?
  9. yes give it a try, not the one that was just lycra that was just from mothercare, try the one that had extra elastic bands that velcro it tighter. Put it on then pull the extra bands and fasten where it feels comfy.
  10. hi clare have you tried the belts that I leant to you? they were in the bag with the tens machine. The white one with the velcro straps was given to me by physio when I had to go on cruthches as I had such bad pelvic and back pain. its a really good one so give it a try. x
  11. congratulations on your little one arriving- have you tried different bottles and formula?E was terrible on sma gold really chronic wind and unhappy all the time for the first couple of weeks then I couldnt get that type one day so had to buy cow and gate she was better from the first bottle of the different formula. I tried the sma again just to see and she was windy again so she was def better on cow and gate over sma so worth tying a different type. And also the bottles different ones suit different babies. it does get better though and does fly by sooo quickly Eis 2 today and I have no idea where the last 2 years have gone.
  12. hi what would the age range be? and do you run classes throughout the year, looking to send my little one to classes as soon as she is old enough as she loves dancing.
  13. hi is a very strange man, my friend and I had a run in with him one afternoon, we were waiting to cross the road when a car pulled up right next to where we were waiting to cross and he staggered out of it. not sure if he was drunk or on something but he was quite clearly intoxicated on some way, he then stood in the way talking to his friend with the door open meaning that we couldnt get by so my friend said excuse me to him and tried to move around him where he slammed the car door and started screaming at her that she had run over his foot with her buggy. She hadnt touched him at all but he was hurling abuse and being incredibly nasty. we tried to argue back that he was in the way and had been asked to move and that she never actually touched him but he just kept screaming at her with abuse so we walked on and ignored him but he came after us. luckily he was not altogether there so couldnt keep up with us so we got away from him but it was scary esp as we had 2 small babies with us. And it was def him as ive know him for years from when he used to work in a shop on berwick street in london. I used to buy fabric from him for work in london and there was a huge scandal when he walked out of the shop he worked in. (A lot of mystery around how he managed to stock this shop on lordship lane!!!)
  14. hi bookstart is free a small playgroup various venues depending on day I think, but there is play dough, craft takle loads of books that you can borrow, rain sets, fake food etc and sing and story time at the end. nice little group only thing is they close the doors when they get 30 in I think so you have to arrive early or risk not getting in.
  15. hi my little one is actually 2 next week -eeekk where did the time go? but a few of us meet up every mon and fri and sometimes wed for coffee and chat, in the summer we spend lovely afternoons in the park so the kids can go nuts running around but this time of year we tend to do each others houses. 3 of the mums have recently had their second babies and 3 of us are thinking about starting with the next ones so we are at all different stages- great source of advice and reassurance! if either of you want to come to mine for a coffee tomorrow you are quite welcome was going to see if clarec wanted to come tomorrow too as she didnt make it yesterday and her baby is due in Jan. if you want a coffee send me a pm we are on overhill road. leanne
  16. hi Ellas did the same, fine at first then went funny, hers looked like a bruise then a scab, when I mentioned it to health visitor she said if it became raised wait till she was in the bath and bathe it to soften skin then rub the scab/knock the top off to see if it had got infected. When I did this there was loads of white/green goo inside. Bathed and repeated it daily and after about a week it stopped oozing and healed properly. might be worth showing to health visitor to see what you are told but think its fine unless it becomes raised(means its filling with puss)
  17. We went out with the baby at 4 days old- was only going to go down to lordship lane but it took so much effort and bag packing etc to get ready that I said lets just go into town and get the visiting work thing out of the way, so at 4 days old Ella went backstage at Mary Poppins and Lord of the rings(where hubby and I were both working) down Oxford street, into macdonalds and into the pub that we used to drink in in covent garden. Was la lovely thing to do as everyone got to see her when She was tiny and I think I got over my fear of going out very quickly. Did spend the next day crying all day so think it took it out of me! was also a good thing to do as she was only 3 weeks old when we had to get the train to durham for christmas which was a huge journey with a 3 weeks old! the first time we went out in the evening was that trip away and we went for a couple of drinks with friends on christmas eve. just dont push yourself you will know when you are ready to go out and face the world and a lot does depend on circumstances, we dont have family in london either so in the early days it was only when we had family visiting that we would grab the chance for an hour or two out but these days(she will be 2 very soon) we prob manage to go out about once a month. I have a few mums that I have become good friends with and we sit for each other and help each other out as we are all in the same situation with no families close to hand.
  18. hi you can contact the tax dept and say you want to become self employed and they will book you on to a course. When I went self employed I went ot it, was on the aldwych and It took you through everything you needed to know, it only lasted a couple of hours but explained how to calculate tax, what you can claim back, if it would be better staying employed etc, worth going along to and it was free. I havent tried to get a loan since becoming self employed but doing the tax calculation was fine as long as you keep records(they take you through this on the course and give you examples on that your spread sheets should look like to make it as simple as poss for you.) and re tax whenever I get paid I take off the tax straight away and put the tax away into another account so your tax is there ready for you and when you finally do your tax and take off everything that you can claim for you should have a little bit left over in that account to either go towards next year or to treat yourself,
  19. hi hope you all have a lovely evening on the 12th, Id love to come and put names to faces but we go away to see some relatives on the 12th so cant make it but would love to go on another occasion if its a success and you plan another evening out. leanne
  20. Hi I used them and they were great. I used washable and disposable for most of the time but for nights out or days away from the baby I used these. They have the sticky coating that you get on those stick on bras etc so found for the basic day to day routine they were not really practical as you have to peel it off your breast and sit it on the side and to put them back on you have to depress the nipple and smooth it on. not practical if you are out having a coffee in cafe nero and have to start messing with your nipples! Washable and disposable breast pads generally are just there to soak up the leaks where these stop you leaking as they stop your nipples becoming erect so they cant leak. if you have to go back to work whilst still breast feeding, or will be going out for special occasions where you really dont want that wet patch that always happens when you really dont want it to then get some. I only used mine a few times but really thought they were worth it as they were great peace of mind that I wouldnt be leaking all over the place, and you dont get the pad ring in your bra that if you have a very thin top on you can sometimes spot.
  21. I have to say, we had one of those monitors and It was a godsend.I think I would have been in and out of her room all the time if I hadnt know it was there. Everyone is different but for me it was peace of mind. Right from the first night it was nice just looking across when I opened my eyes to see the light flashing( our flashed a small led everytime it felt a breath). In the year and a half that we used it( I know far too long-just got into the habit of turning it on )it only went off 3 times twice was when we were away on holiday and she was in the travel cot, as this is bigger she had moved around and was off the pad, the other time I think she had actually stopped breathing- cant be sure for def but when I went in and lifted her,she was very floppy and then she took a huge gasping breath and started to cry. The reason we bought it was because my cousins little one stopped breathing about 6 times in the first 8 months and he was told that he just kept forgetting to breath. The monitor was given to them by the hosp and was told that if he did keep forgetting to breath the noise of the alarm going off would startle him into breathing. When we got pregnant my cousin recommended getting one, Im really glad I did as who know maybe E is still here because I heard that alarm going off. You can get them from argos if you are considering them then get one and have a try, you can always take it back if its not for you.

  23. we have had an odd thing in our house, nothing happened in our house until my daughter was born, but on quite a few occassions since she was born when I was in her room and having a down moment(when she was crying and I couldnt work out why etc) I would feel a hand on my back. It wasnt scary and actually made me feel quite comforted that I had some support in a strange way but def felt like someone had put their hand there. I never mentioned it to anyone thinking I was prob being daft but then my husband and I went away for 2 nights. My mum and dad came to baby sit for us and when we got back my mum said something strange happened and that she had felt a hand on her back when she was in E's room! now she is 2 this moonth and can speak very clearly and she keeps saying the lady fell down the stairs-there is no-one there when she say's it but she runs to the top of the stairs saying silly lady fell down the stairs again! very strange.
