  1. That's all about control. Someone's been dumped and they see it as a way of getting revenge i.e. they are in control of the situation...
  2. I think a big part of the Northern Ireland 'problem' is that there has been too much reflection on the past. At University I knew people from both sides of divide, they could all regale events in history that 'proved' they were in the right and the other side were the baddies. Yes we can learn from history, but sometimes the past is best left in the past...
  3. No Surrender to the Soft Jig, everyone knows the Sand Dancers are The People...FTSJ!

Not taking into account why > events led to the troubles in NI is missing the > point. When discussing McGuinees you do have to understand the context of what led to The Troubles, and you do have to acknowledge and acclaim his pivotal role in the peace process, but you also have to acknowledge and condemn his active role in a sustained campaign of terrorism and murder, a lot of it indiscriminate. He didn't have to go down that route, there were alternatives, he chose the gun and bomb over the ballot box. The OP provided a romanticised viewpoint of McGuiness looking through a green tinted lens, and for that he was rightly called out on...
  5. Never had to stay in a hotel as my brother lives there, but the Jewellery Quarter is a good area to be based in... http://jewelleryquarter.net/
  6. Rendel, I reckon your appearances on United Ireland marches (in the 80's?) must've been one of the earliest forms of VS, you were ahead of the curve, I salute you :)...
  7. Yep, it's always worth ringing them to see what's on offer, and as you say, threatening to leave always throws up a 'special offer'... :)
  8. As an existing Virgin customer I was today offered BT Sport as an add-on for either 6 months free providing I went on to a new 12 month contract with Virgin for their TV/Phone/Broadband service, or keep my existing rolling monthly contract and pay ?5 a month extra for 6 months. With the latter I can opt out at anytime within the 6 months without penalty...
  9. I'm playing IRA Bingo, I just need ''freedom fighters'' for a Full House!....

With FoS comes responsibility, there are lines you shouldn't cross out of common decency...
  11. I'll wait for your response in the McGuiness thread then Mick....
  12. Yes, but many of those flags will also have a Union Jack in one of the 4 corners of the St George flag. Also, they will sing the National Anthem many times during a game, Rule Britannia too. It's been reported that the England fans (I use that term loosely) didn't sing any songs about the players during the Germany game, instead it was all anti-German/IRA, nationalistic and xenophobic singing and chanting...

What do you think? The question was asked in relation to MM's comment I extend that to all innocent victims of terrorism. Along with the British Army, British politicians, the Royal family etc, the IRA saw the police as legitimate targets, so I wanted to know if he felt that a policemen murdered by Republican terrorists during The Troubles should be classed as an innocent victim or not...
  14. Is it English Nationalism? The headline photo of that article shows Brexiteers flying the Union Jack. The main proponents of Britsih nationalism have always been the English with parts of Ulster and the West of Scotland thrown in. For whatever reason(s) the English have always found it easier to identify with being British than English. The British national anthem still gets played for England teams at most sporting events. The other Home Countries have got their separate identity, so it will be interesting if the Union does indeed break up to see how the English re-identify themselves...
  15. Tommy Robinson (ex EDL leader) came up to London yesterday specifically to do the same. That's the level Farage is at...
  16. Were the police murdered by terrorists during The Troubles 'innocent victims'?...
  17. Careful with those free font sites, some are dodgy. I think Loz gave me a kosher one a few years ago...

  20. A few of the CG letters aren't quite right, e.g. the E isn't vertically symmetrical like the album cover, but overall close enough for purpose...
  21. The Avant Garde font has a similar mixture of 'fat' and 'thin' letters, and the G is very close too...
  22. Try Helvetica Light or Narrow. I think the key to getting a similar look is the spacing of the letters, they almost touch each other...
