Without wanting to reguirgitate Paris '68 situationists - but how DO you mend a sick society ?
  6. Truthfully I dont give a shit one way or another - I certainly dont blame the kids for the school they attend, but some of the parents can be excruciating selfish narrow minded pain the arses - some however are normal people ( shocker! ). I wouldt stop people having the choice if thats what get them going, even if I do think it is a little sad Like Private health care & Private universities - get on with it, but do not expect the vasy majority of the country to explicitly or implcitly subsidise of support your selfish choices. To argue that there is a wider social benefit to fee payings schools is one of the flimsyest strawmen I have heard in a long time, whatever convoluted justification you can dredge up to back it up You are buying an advantage for your kids is the bottom line, accept that or not - there would not be a need for this school / its kind otherwise

  11. you have all fallen for the bluster and PR - is this what politics is about ? cameron will be tugging himself off over a photo of himself if he could read the SE22 vox pop - remember, hes an ex PR professional - this is what he does for a living voting for change is oxymoronic. career politicians are career politicians, irrespective of the colour of flag they tie to their mast. Straw and Woolas- both ex NUS leaders - both dirty hippies. Brown is a cunt, but hes a principled cunt comparatively - for what its worth change your vote every few years and hope for the best. except the same lot will always get in- you think the Tories will sort out the root causes of our malaise once and for all ? you think that more coppers on the streets will make a difference ? doesnt sem to have worked so far, so what makes you thnk that a different master will change that? The UK is America lite- these mugs voted for another production line , middle ground worthless politician - we will do the same buy the fat telly, read the liberal press, change nothing is it so surprising that we are about the only county in Europe that has never experienced a popular uprising in the past few hundred years ?

  14. IIRC , there was a small but vocal lobby was quite opposed to the siting of the depot, apparently 200 "artists" would be displaced if the tram came to roost each night in SE15 - one of the leaders of this group does occasionally post on here.
  15. I go to alot of overseas games - sometimes I dont manage to get to the game - its an excuse to travel and mix with chums - the sport is secondary
  16. IS that whats life is really about ? making your kids aspire to be consumers like ma & pa ? why not send them off to be a boarder and send them postcards of you enjoying yourself? Good for the kids self esteem as well. make a man of him.
  17. Bursaries are required to keep up a fee paying schools charity status It tax efficiency, pure and simple No public benfifit, no charitable status now - this isnt about reaching out to the community, its about survival for these institutions - and lets not forget that to get onto the means testing ladder, first you have to have a place - scooping out the most apt to keep your ranking and paying pupils coming through the doors

  23. There are lots of people who believe in it, there are many who believe in the cash that it generates Its pseudo science cabal organised for profit by dirty filthy right wing greedy reactionary hippies and their hippie-lite kin. the people at the bottom who buy the stuff may get a psycological lift from the process and thats where any benefit may lie - to argue abolutes when you are discussing a fairy tale is a bit pointless
