  1. 'the terrible state they're in' - I use buses a lot and am a picky so and so (others might call it 'high standards' but I think it's a euphemism) and I don't think the SE22 bus stops are bad. Most are not vandalised, most have bins near them, the Countdown service - if installed - nearly always works and gives a good idea of when the buses are meant to arrive and the seats are clean and gum-free. Where are the terrible ones? I can think of other stuff that needs sorting, such as overcrowding in the mornigns and evenings and poor, sometimes dangerous, bus driving.
  2. The service (mentioned above) from Peckham Rye to St Pancras Intl is very good. It'll take about 20 minutes or so and then you can walk another 15 mins to Euston. The bus option is also good, giving your guest the chance to at least see some of London - Aldwych, Waterloo Bridge and its views, er, Elephant and Castle, hmmmm, Walworth Road (RIP Rimworld)....
  3. Hmmm. Or do they persuade people who have not got a car to start using them? I can't see that people will be giving up their cars to 'trade down' to a car club more than those without a car will begin using such a service.
  4. One tree has been almost hacked to the ground, the other has a branch hanging off it. I can only assume it is vandalism, unless there were two highly-directional wind blasts/vehicle accidents. I reported it to the council and asked for the wrecked one to be replaced. Think it must have happened last night, close to the school.
  5. Ah! I was walking home and two builders or decorators were taking pix of each other with another dungaree'd bloke. Must be him!
  6. John Illsley (Dire Straits) will be talking to Julian Worricker on BBC World Service Weekend World Today about Charlie Gillett between 0800 and 0900 on Saturday 20th March. 648 MW, Digital radio, Freeview etc or Online at www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice or iPlayer -(Weekend) World Today.
  7. Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick, the LA Times bureau chief in Beijing, and former Seoul correspondent is a good read. She befriended several N Korea refugees in S Korea and tells their story. I recommend it, mostly because it is well written and has good narratives and also because it gives a human face to a place that has become a byword for faceless conformity.

    Robert Elms

But he invented pop music! And Punk! And he did it all in Spanish, too!
  9. Brussels - abroad/chips with mayo/TinTin/chocolate/waffles/high-speed train ride under the sea/side trip to Ghent free with the Eurostar ticket/other languages/beer for parents.
  10. Bunny19, please can you make sure you let the police know about the other attacks and that they have been reported. I live about ten yards from that junction so it is really bringing it home. Goodrich School as CCTV so please tell the police that too. Best wishes.
  11. And then tehre was The Grinch's bad experience in the early hours of Saturday morning on Goodrich Road.
  12. Another plea/nag - please report it. You will be doing yourself and the rest of us a favour. Being hit on the bonce with a brick is a serious assault! I often use that route and have walked home at all hours and never felt really threatened ever, but this has made me think again.
  13. The Southwark mobile spy-cam (not its official name, I think) was billeted at the Goodrich/Upland intersection in good time this afternoon for school kicking-out time, and it seemed to have deterred illegal parkers.
  14. I am all for a revamp of FHR. It is better than it was, but the blue corner place could do with being refitted and the awful blue and yellow place near to the barbershop is an eyesore.
  15. My next door neighbour had his car stolen about five-six weeks ago from outside his house, opposite Goodrich School on G'rich Road. There has been no other car crime as far as I know up here.
  16. No car, just my legs and an Oyster card. I cd try Crystal Palace. The 363 goes there, and I don't think it stops that far from the pool.

    Snow watch

We could eat the daffodils if everyone stopped picking them!
  18. Try Delphic and Music Go Music (out later this year). Hurts also due for release later this year.

    Snow watch

17.38 - Upper part of Goodrich Road - heavyish shower of snow, sticking, light wind.
  20. They could try patrolling in ones instead of twos and threes - be they police officers or the supporting officers. Even if they did during daylight hours, it would mean a good deal more 'policing hours'. Likewise for Southwark Wardens who don't know the meaning of the phrase 'three's a crowd'.
  21. The Dulwich and Camberwell pools are closed right now. I know there is Peckham Pulse, but where is the next nearest? Is there one in near Sydenham or Forest Hill? I know about CP but think it is a bit too far. Thanks for any info.

    Rugby matters

This might be of interest. It's a discussion about violence in sport, mainly rugby.
  23. A) Where is it? B) Up my arse on a hook/nail. A) What's for dinner? B) Shit with sugar on. A) What's that? B) Don't know - the label fell off. 'Paper bag' was also an oft-repeated phrase, used to denote stupidity. It must have been the catchphrase of a joke or referring to an incident I never asked about. Stop skriking! (crying) Mard arse! (softy)
  24. I have lost my wallet twice on London buses and have got it back both times, so don't give up. Find out the name of the operator, ring the garage and hope for the best.
  25. Go and play with the buses on Mersey Square. Stop mithering. It's proper Ann Twacky. A - What's that? B - Nowt for nosies. Tek off. Dolly bird.
