  1. There were a few police officers at the betting shop on that corner. The area had been cordoned off. Don't know what happened.

Hmm. As I thought. Shame. Thanks.
  3. I like it, but I've heard it raises oestregen levels in men. There's an article in the Independent today about boy boobs, whioh are not just flabby titten a la Tony Blair or but a real medical complaint that doctors are seeing more of in young men in their teens.

    Kindle advice

I am going to the US shortly and wanted to buy a Kindle, which is a hand-held device onto which you download books. Does anyone on here have one, or is it totally impossible if you are a foreigner? I fear that you have to have a US address and bank account to set up a download account with Amazon.
  5. Driving with care is expected of a driver. Walking with equal care and attention to safety should be natural to pedestrians, but some are rather careless. Northcross Road's junction with LL often offers up airheaded jaywalkers, mobile phone glued to ear.
  6. It should be open next week, or so said the proprietress, who sounds Scandinavian and not French. She looks Scandinavian too.
  7. 'Gotten' instead of 'got'. It is very, very affected and very, very naff. 'Random' is another hackneyed word. In fact, most cliched language gets my goat these days. If you fancy a real laugh, go and listen to the Jeremy Vine show from Friday at around midday. There was a guest whose English was so poor and so choc-full of cliches that it would be very difficult to have parodied him.
  8. WSPH is relatively expensive, compared with other gyms in the area and beyond. For my (discounted) fee I get great service, a new gym, personable and well-trained staff and a sense of professionalism that far surpasses that of the other gyms I have been a member of. I've done the free-weight stuff, got very slinky, but needed a more 'mature' way of doing things post disc problems. ESPH fitted the bill. I sense this thread, like so many others, is ultimately doomed to reach no conclusion. To get down to brass tacks, some people like ESPH, others don't.
  9. I like the green colour. Now attention should be turned to the plants! Nero
  10. I have only noticed the decaying rubbish, but I think there should be green roofs on every bus shelter, or at least in places wherre they are less likely to be vandalised. I had the idea a long time ago, then saw that it's already happened in Sheffield on a very small scale. It'd be relatively easy and would increase biodiversity in the city.
  11. The police have moved on. Wouldn't tell us what was happening, but obvoiuus some kind of arrest was being made or attempted on Uplands Rd.
  12. Big police presence here at Goodrich School. Unmarked police vehicles, armed police, several cars with flashing lights at the mini roundabouts on Dunstans/Goodrich, Uplands/Goodrich, police van blocking traffic at Dunstans/Underhill, paramedics. I reckon an arrest is imminent. Chief inspector also here to oversee the operation. More soon.
  13. I sent the thread to the folks at Au Ciel Inc (the Chardon management) but never received a reply, even though I asked for their response to my original complaint. Maybe they've read it, maybe not. Nero
  14. Isn't there going to be a new bakery next to Moxon's? I can feel a collective ED gluten intolerance coming on.

    local driving

I agree, but I'd say they are expecting you to be nasty, but when you wave and smile at them like a long lost relative, they feel puzzled, then embarrassed. Shame and guilt is a better way of getting them to change their behaviour than making them angry. Just give it a go.

Agree about people being amber gamblers and not stoppin at zebras. If noone stops for me, I wave at them in a very exaggerated, friendly way, just so they get the message that I think they are selfish morons. It is VERY satisfying! Try it.
  17. I read it and I feel sorry for both of you. Why did you feel the need to air your grubby laundry in public, let alone that of someone else? Very tawdry.
  18. It's a good issue. Reckon one of the papers would be interested, especially if you were willing to be photographed in glum pose on said wall. Good for you for standing up for yourself.

    .

For the record, I posted the reply from TJMP because it is relevant to the topic. I was not banner waving for the Labour party. I encourage other posters to write to the rail operator to tell it if they are dissatisfied with its services.
  20. I feel for you. Use it as a chance to upgrade your security and to warn others of the perils, and advise them to fit more locks. I'd say that two deadlocks are better than one - the locksmith mentioned above are good and will offer good advice. Decent lighting, well-kept hedges/trees that don't afford any cover for a burglar are important, too. Getting to know your neighbours, and promising to look out for them if they do the same for you is also a good idea.
  21. ! Let's hope it's not as dramatic as it first seems. They've just got a new website, too.
  22. Back to the dognapper. I do hope you won't be giving any more of your money to her. She sounds like a real piece of work. I'd get someone else to push my cuticles back.
  23. So she nicked the dog from outside a pub? Classy lady.
  24. I watched it for the first time this series and wasn't that impressed. It's a hackneyed idea and a very tired format, masquerading as something better than X-Factor/Britain's Got Talent etc because it's about business, which somehow lends it an air of Reithian values. Clare is like Kerry Katona with an NVQ course in business buzzwords. Jennifer looks like Fiona Bruce's malevolent - and thick - older sister. Suh Ralan himself does a very good Mike Baldwin impression. It's all 'guys' and 'go for its' and is depressingly familiar.
  25. I had a dream that I was Madonna's mate last night. We became friends and we went out for a run and she was very open about her problems with me. I went back to her house, which was a corner Victorian house that was pretty normal and a bit grubby, in fact. The people around her treated her badly, disaparagingly, even as she was getting ready to go on stage. She then 'dropped' me and ignored me more and more. Hmmm. It was very vivid and I was just thinking about it when I saw the dream thread.
