  1. Sean, I'd ring the 7525 2000 number, report it and get a reference number. Then I'd write a letter to the head of recycling services or streets or whatever it is called (it'll be on the website) and ask how this will be avoided in the future. Letters work much better than emails or phone calls. Tell the recycling head that you are sending a copy to your ward councillor and Tessa Jowell. Nero
  2. Thirded for good shops. It's not an awful place, but it just needs a bit of a push and a shove. How about looking at that god-awful 'blue shop' on the corner of the parade and Dunstan's? Or the ex-caff next to the (very good) barber's? Or Bont interiors. The Coop, the barber's, the landeretted with its natty pink and black revamp, the restaurants and the beauty parlour are all great, but it's just a bit crap elsewhere. Nero
  3. Give it a go, Scotslass. Do you really think that the tools who let their dogs shit all over are the bien-pensant members of society who go onto a community internet board? Moaning about it on here is practically useless. (That's my main beef about this site. Lots of whining, with nowhere near as much action.) Nero
  4. There are some people who have a 'gland' problem, such as an underactive thyroid. Other people gain weight as a result of taking medication. But the majority of people who are fat are overeaters and undermovers. The bottom line is that very many of us, including the non-tubby, eat too much. And most of us don't take enough exercise. I don't doubt that changing one's eating and drinking and exercise habits is hard, but that is what is needed to lose weight and keep it off. Don't fall for patches and potions! Nero
  5. I've had a dog dump in my front garden, twice! Not nice, eh? I encourage people to tackle the vicarious shitters. Nero
  6. Thank goodness people are catching on to this. I've always asked for tap water in restaurants but have seen friend's faces contort with shame when I do, as if I'm asking for the waitron to wipe my arse for me. In places like India, China and even Turkey, I'd go for bottled water, but in western Europe and the US, Canada, Oz etc chilled tap water is fine. To me, buying water is the same as throwing money away. And as for this idea about needing to be constantly rehydrated, well, that is baloney. It's base marketing and the drones fall for it. Maybe if your a dipsomaniac, E'd up marathon runner with only one, partially-working kidney, then you do need to take in water constantly. Otherwise, you'll get lots from tea, milk, apples, oranges, even the odd pint of beer. Sheesh. Nero
  7. Yup, you got it pk. For every 'mad' person, there's at least one other loud, obnoxious, possibly pissed up non 'mad' bloke or ladette, or lairy, testosterone-fuelled footy/rugby fan. To me, that behaviour is socially inappropriate and worse than 'mad' people's ramblings, because the former is optional, yet it's more or less acceptable. Nero
  8. Tiger, it is one of my bugbears. There are things you can do. You can phone 020 7525 2000 to report it and it will be cleared. You can phone the same number and ask for 'Bag it and bin it' signs to be painted on the ground near to where the fouling takes place. You can speak to the person whose dog is fouling, pointing out that it's illegal, antisocial and potentially dangerous to people's health. Writing on the EDF might help you vent your spleen, but it won't solve the problem of dog fouling. Nero
  9. This week's London Life (or something - you know, the one that is page upon page of great news about London and its illustrious leader) has a feature on kingfishers in it. Says they have to eat their body weight of food every day to stay alive. Didn't say anything about the Peckham Rye one. Nero
  10. Agree that pizzas etc is pedestrian, so what about tapas? Mebbe that Spanish place way up in the Upper East Side might relocate, or open a satellite branch? Nero
  11. Hmm. I am pretty observant, but had no idea that was a PO. Nero
  12. Strada would be good, but reckon Giraffe would make a lot of money there due to the children-friendly policy it has. Nero
  13. Has people with much spare time.
  14. Didn't even know there was one on Melbourne Grove. Where exactly? Nero
  15. H and G has opened a new shop in the past few days. It's at Russell Street, Covent Garden on the corner. It's larger than the SE22 branch, but Miss Hope and Mr Greenwood were not there when I went past. Nero
  16. Never can say goodbye - Communards
  17. It's better than it was, but still a bit of a Double Deckers/Why Don't You feel about it. All that's missing is the beanbags. I don't want designer chic, but it's too church hall gonk for me. (I do go, however, and buy cheese and oysters, but wouldn't want to linger.) Nero
  18. It's like only doing the practical side of a driving test
  19. Mebbe they should renationalise the rail system while they're at it. It makes more sense now that we need to encourage rail travel over air and road transport. Nero
  20. Hmm. That's too punishing a wait for me. It'll teach me to strike while the iron is hot and go and see things when I see them advertised and stop procrastinating. Nero
  21. Bit of a long shot, but... Has anyone had any experience of queuing successfully for tickets to see 'Othello' at the Donmar? It finishes on Saturday and I want to go on Friday. I have a day off, so can queue, but wondered whether 9am would be too late to queue? Anyone done this? Nero
  22. Has any of the victims notified the police? If not, then please do. It might just help. Nero
  23. I said I liked them. I like pink. But they've not boosted the area. Nero
  24. I like them too, but the Zandra Rhodes street lights on the parade of shops where The Green was (RIP) didn't do much to regenerate the area, did it? Nero

    The Vale

....lemons in the dishwasher What does that mean? I reckon lemons in the dishwasher will aid rinsing and odour elimination! Nero
