  1. On hols in teh 'south west' you say? Surely it couldn't be....no, please no,...FULHAM? PUTNEY?..RICHMOND??! Nero
  2. My partner had 2 flats in the space of about 4 weeks, at least one due to a puncture. Nero
  3. Goodrich used to be the one to go for. They have a new headteacher who is younger than the previous one and I have heard good things about her from a neighbour who is involved in teh school. Be prepared to pay for houses nearby! Nero
  4. Very nice and all that, but when was the last time that cars were allowed to park on the Rye? (Apart from those with circuses, fairs etc.) Can't remember a time. Should we all try it when parking is a bit tricky at the bottom of Barry Road, and see how far we get? Nero
  5. Absolutely. I would never have know about this before. Now I do, and my opinion of that place has changed, however slightly for the worse. It's a shame, but at least it has stopped me (and perhaps others) from making an icon out of what is, essentially, a traditional greengrocer's shop. Funny how in this day and age something your mum would have taken for granted (and perhaps even have sniffed at once she'd got a bit of money in her purse and an eye on the formica for her kitchen) is lionised by some of us. 6. There's grass on Goose Green. And free twigs galore in Dulwich Park. Nero

    scorpion

Don't kill it, please. Why not ring the Wildlife centre in SE15? Think it is London Wildlife Trust or something. Google it. Brendad, is the UK scorpion population native or has it been brought in in the past? Nero
  8. Is there a pond on Goose Green? Or is there a plan for one? It would be great to have one. Apart from that one at the end of Plough Lane (whifh is actually in a private garden!) are there any more around? I mean ponds and not lakes/park ponds etc. Nero
  9. But surely if they tailgate, then they are, ahem 'bang' to rights. (It's just flowing today.) That bloody Lane is lawless and it really cheeses me off. Blokes peeing in the street? Yes sir, of course sir. Illegal parking? That's no problem, madame. Rotting flesh and vegetable smells from dawn till dusk? Right away! Nero
  10. Monica, I understand your passion, but don't let it be diminished because you are getting frustrated by others' attitudes that are not the same as yours. You simply can't get everyone on board with this. Even those who do buy a bag might still take placcy bags from time to time. I still do, but do reuse it. It's just human nature, so don't let it get you down too much. Nero
  11. If only the police or wardens would enforce the parking laws more readily, then at least one of the unpleasant aspects of Rye Lane would be ameliorated. Being stuck on a bus because some van/taxi/other vehicle with 'disabled' driver or passenger in it has stopped on the double yellows is annoying. There used to be bollards that would drop down for buses and access, but they lasted for a short time as they damaged a vehicle, I heard. Rather than trying to improve it, it was obv. decided to do away with it altogether, which is not an efficient use of our money, is it? Nero
  12. I think there is meant to be a new version of the display coming on line 'soon' (ask Ken for exact definition). When I have a bus pass I hop on the first one and then swap, ie. 40 to E and C and then 68,188,176,171 to Aldwych. But I am SERIOUSLY thinking of getting a bike. I am fed up of the rubbish on buses, and of the yoof who play their phones out loud and eat their junk food and leave it on the floor. (6) Now, I feel better for that. Nero
  13. It is a tip. I avoid it at all costs. There is Friends of P R Station, but it seems their influence is lacking. Nero
  14. Like your tortoise simile. Chocolate teapot is a bit 90s. Any more? (Perhaps you should lounge this.) Nero
  15. I'd batter think of some other fish puns. Nero
  16. Thanks to G and B and to Mark for organising the competition to get tix to the opening of the new branch of aforementioned wine bar in Clapham North. It was very pleasant. They tell me they're looking to open up to six branches across London over the next few years. Good luck to them. Nero

    Broken society

By definition, family is not simply the nuclear family. Those who champion 'the family' should really consider whether moving miles away from their parents fits in with their philosophy. And why should those feckless families get tax breaks simply for being together when a single parent who might be more involved in his or her children's lives not get such rewards? On a different not, at the same time as having myriad individual units all looking out for themselves, it would be better if they realised that since they are more or less in the same boat they should think much more about how they might communicate, interact and mutually support each other. The Plough Pub

Kids in pubs? What a SPLENDID idea. (tu) Nero
  19. Use your mobile to record it, if possible. Or you could ask them to stop, explaining it is late. I think lighter nights explain it. They prolly wouldn't do it if it were November. Nero
  20. Does anyone know whether there is a shop that will collect batteries for recycling? Does the library? Nero
  21. Where were you parked? Nero
  22. Oh yes. Nero was told by an innocent bystander that it was a suspect package. (I'm not a journo for nothing, you know.) I got back home about 8 and it was all taped up then. Nero
  23. I care. I think it should stay and be made to pay a big fine. I think that the council should understand from the likes of us that granting such licences has lots of implications, good and bad, for the rest of the locale. Nero
  24. Or 'The Village'. Nero
  25. In this month's SE magazine, Helen Lederer heard her friend call Lordship Lane 'The Lane', and said how much she liked it. Do you like it? Nero
