  1. And now we turn to Golf....I've got the French Prodigy a while back, going to do Hunter and need someone whose nearer the top? I also fancy Westwood, I know he's in poor form but 50S when I looked, unless I missread?
  2. Get involved? Probably not, because State education is an embittered coward who is hiding behind a made up name on a forum whilst bringing up personal details of someone else would be my guess......wouldn't want someone like that involved in deciding anything on my kids' education
  3. Er, actually PT, with the problems it has no doubt created, right to buy was one of the biggest drivers of social mobility ever. Until the 80s the working classes were meant to know their place and that was not as home owners but away from the Middle classes - in their council houses. Also, earlier in this thread, you talk about quality social housing built before the 80s...you are having a laugh aren't you? much of it, especially from the 60s and 70s was cheap shite, often dangerous (Ronan Point anyone?) and largely a failure much of which is now or has now been knocked down with no-one mourning it. Most of it was designed by middle-class tossers from their georgian homes, naturally. Always know what's best for the plebs statists/lefty middle class types....

So who is exactly fit to be the landlords of rented property? The banks? Big corporations? Just the state? But a private individual owning more than one property is a 'looter' If you are going to band around such provocative terms, personally, I think it would be more valid to say anyone who makes their corn and contributes to the profit of a giant global investment bank is better described as a looter than people just trying to meme the best to look after their family and future...wouldn't you?

But it's not so far off Some might say that having your pension underpinned by other people's tax money whilst they have got nothing for retirement is similar, if you want to be so provocative... Both are horses shit positions.....
  6. do what I said... ?100 (or even ?200) on City to win tommorrow= ?34, if they lose, you are even happier, carry on with that as long as Liverpool keep winning then bet big on City to win vs Liverpool when they meet...very nice hedge... ..as long as Liverpool beat the Irons
  7. As is often the case 'conservatism' is manifest in those that would no doubt class themselves as progressive.... I tend to agree with DaveR
  8. Grand National anyone? Mick - you hedged your Liverpool bet yet?
  9. Silver linings - i'd rather someone could unlock my car and find the ?1 kept for parking in the Glove compartment than the twice we've had the lock barrell screwdrivered at ?100 + a pop to fix. Scumbags would hopefully accidentally find their heads slammed in the door if they got found as the police and law does SFA
  10. yeah real underhand bias shown by Otta *sighs* Cross posted this was in reference to the post before Otta's
  11. Saturday, why you going via the M25??
  12. Any West Ham fans ever been to The Village on Barking Road? Now, there was a pub that lived up to its name, a rural ambience and a friendly clientele....

  17. Even in the 80s - Camden, Holloway, Kilburn, Archway....whole swathes of London that were pretty Irish with many fantastic pubs.....sad that it's gone, and a whole subculture lost - but London changes as it always has
  18. As numbers said, to accuse anyone of being not enamoured with the EU as Xenphobic is ironically an example of daily mail like steretyping in its own right - has always amazed me that two of the more intelligent posters on this forum (ep and that old fella Hugenot) have consistently fallen back on this stereotype... isn't that old pint swilling fraud Nigel 'the Xeneophobe' Farage married to a german himself?

...and I am lucky, any West Ham under 40 presumambly can't remember us winning anything! (excluding play offs) and of course, we are relatively priveliged compared to most smaller clubs (and Newcastle :))

Interesting Otta - I always laugh I see journalists (normally columnists, not the sports bods) write or hear people say things like us "long suffering Arsenal/Liverpool fans"; they are benchmarking against success try supporting a team outside the big 6 or so. We'd dream of their failure. I've said before, but down in Cardiff in 2006 I really did think "that's it for me - I can't do this hurt anymore"....grdaually it crept back and being at Wembley for the play offs final was cathartic for me
