  1. Actually, I do think one of the reasons is the Drawing Room an opinion I've long held. Dumbed down the Lounge (or certainly 'undiluted' the dumbness) and made it less interesting and I'm guessing fewer visitors and a smaller and smaller pool of posters, which both reinforces the feeling of cliques, doesn't encourage newbies and makes us all bored of each other's work, I know I'm bored of my stuff. If you move away from the really useful bits of the forum, then in 'personality' the Lounge is the lifeblood of a forum and I think it's now the poorest bit on here. The Drawing Room has sort of worked in one way but really spoilt the Lounge IMO. About this Forum rocks
  2. The EDF drinks are not back until September

  4. Being an inane solipsistic narcissisticist, I blame it IT ON ME.
  5. All looking very good :))
  6. By deduction...if you believe in cultural realtivism then you are culturally entitled to express your western liberal view point with no need for discussion or guilt (which I think was Magpie's point); if you don't, then clearly on Female Circumsicion you are right. Ergo The problem is Cultural relativism? Stella clears the mind I find...at the moment ;-) Not good for spelling though
  7. I wouldn't worry Sophie, Market Researchers are ok at putting surveys together but know bugger all about adding proper insight to the findings, they're just technicians...get your info and make it sing, I'm sure you and your team will. Good luck.

  9. Same destination different paths, as I once said to Sean
  10. Thus speak a Quantitative researcher...this is Qualitative, surely???
  11. And of course the non-western religous could, to some extent justifibly, point to some of the excesses of 'secular rationalism' - Stalin's Russia, Hitler's Germany, Mao's China.
  12. Whilst I take some of your point - fostered on a defeated enemy. Your 'exactly' is complete bollocks. Pre-fisrt World War Germany had reasonable enfranchisement, regular elections, one of the world's first stabs at a welfare state (looked at with envy by Lloyd George), well established unions, independent press, a modern economy, independent globally respected academic institutions, etc etc But we're off topic. I'm pretty much in agreement with DC on this.
  13. The Weimar republic was a Liberal Democracy.
  14. Ruffers...already on the World Cup thread...pay attention ;-)
  15. So Magpie, if you were looking at this in 1938 is Hitler's National Socialist state better at delivering jobs, prosperity and a sense of national pride for the majority of the non-jewish german people than the Weimer republic?

  17. But you can't tell him how he feels...that's what Brendan's arguing....I think?
  18. 2005 backgrounds of MPs ...for anyone interested. Don't suspect it's got any more representative.
  19. We will never know, and of course they'll use it to bash, but I'm pretty sure a Labour government would have to have raised VAT to 20% in current circumstances....I know 'progressives' keep wanting it not to be true the creek we are right up at the moment, but it is.
  20. How's the golf going? (car and leisure activity)
  21. Actually, a Labour MP now is most likely to be teacher or Lecturer. Their representation is pretty narrow white collar, middle class public sector or legal/journalist. Based on the last parliament, I don't know if they've updated this since the election.
  22. I don't want anyone getting hold of my mullet photo
  23. COME ON POMPEY!!!
  24. ....oh yes it is Sam Cooke's soulful contribution to civil rights ...also a decent cover of this by Otis Redding Any other rebel song favourites?
