I have noticed an annoying trend with grown women talking like teenagers. At work I have been emailed "hi hun" (wtf?) And on social media there seem to be alot of "blessed mummy", "quality family time" "love my munchkins" "family forever" type things. So a picture of a frozen pizza end up being: #lovemyhubby #blessed #midweekqualitytime Find it really annoying #midivydale #carpediem #mysonismyworld #solucky

Advice: wetting bed, 4 year old not waking up
midivydale replied to Fijifish's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can you do the lifting thing? Basically take him to the toilet in his sleep pretty much before you go to bed? We never used this ourselves but I have several friends that did so successfully. -

I suspect there are plenty of mums and dads or non parents for that matter who have done this in the area. If so would you mind sharing your experiences with me? I am seriously considering this after too many years in the city, but feel nervous about letting go of the security of a having my long term employment. A few weeks ago I started To offer translation services and to my surprise the response has been over and above what I could have ever imagined. To the point where I have had to say no as i do have a full time job already. But it got me thinking, perhaps just maybe I could actually do this? I would really appreciate any thoughts from others!

Labour inducer curry on Lordship Lane
midivydale replied to sdow687's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had an early baby so no direct experience but remember some friends talking about some rosehip tea or something which they got from the health shop on LL. The staff in there are always very helpful I find, perhaps worth going to see them and ask for their opinion? -
Similar to snowboarder here, my son who is 4 1/2 does football, swimming and some children's martial arts thing. He loves all of them and I think it is a great way for him to put all his energy into a structured constructive activity. He is incredibly physical and so anything sports like comes very easy and naturally to him. At nursery he struggles a little with sitting still and doing crafty things and I find that the sports stuff really builds his confidence. It makes him feel really good about himself and he excels doing it. I will see how things go once he start reception (and have football on hold for now) as do not want to overload him with activities. I do however suspect that like snowboarder, the school start exhaustion will completely pass him by. Most places do one (or more) taster sessions so you can try a few and see how he likes them

Homesick child at summer camp
midivydale replied to Scruffy Mummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
well done!! So pleased he seems happier and no doubt the fact that he was given the choice to come home will be appreiated. The second half of a camp/holiday always go much faster than the first half;) -
Toffee, my experience also differs from up thread. Drunk workers (leaving cider cans on the scaffolding) substandard work, painting windows shut. Dreadful experience which we are still now working on to put right.

Homesick child at summer camp
midivydale replied to Scruffy Mummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can you go and visit him (if you have another teary call?). I remember when I was on camp once, I got really homesick. My amazing dad said that he would come and visit me on Thursday and if after his visit I still wanted to come home then I could. Knowing he would come in a couple of days got me through the next couple of days and surprise surprise once he had been I elected to stay, it was a "Do you want to come home now or stay for two more days kind of thing". I was 12 at the time and I remember how I really appreciated the fact that he made the effort to come down, 4 hour round trip on a school night. Not once did he try to make me feel guilty or silly. It was just gentle reassurance really and I remember it made me feel much more confident about staying on. Would that be an option? -
Schools? St Francesca Cabrini + nursery reccomendations?
midivydale replied to semgrilo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Semgrilo, welcome to the area! You might want to try your luck with schools that might not be closest to you as poster above says, the catchment for Ivydale for example has really expanded no w. Ivydale is a lovely inclusive school and I personally know of a few same sex families there. We took our chances on a school slightly further afield despite Ivydale being our closest by far and we got offered a place in May so please do not panic, there is alot of movement on the waiting lists. Do have a look around and trust your gut. Plenty of people will say that it is fine everywhere and this is 2016 etc but trust your gut and speak to other mixed race/same sex couples. Behind the scenes attitudes vary greatly. Ultimately, we are lucky to have so many good stateschools in the area, you just need to tey and find the best fit for your family. -
Sorry didnt realise there was a previous thread
