  1. keef mentioned he had seen this in another thread but finally watched There Will Be Blood yesterday I had put off watching it for ages - seemed like I would need to set aside a day to get over it but it was a very very good film, with amazing performance from Day-Lewis You could freeze frame any scene and hang it on a wall as well - stunning to look at And as keef also mentioned, it is odd. It's like there is another planet making fims in a similar way to us, but different enough to be jarring if we saw one by accident. Which is what this felt like. A bit... Everything is there - the foundations of our society - oil, greed, family, religion and how so little changes. I'll be watching it again I also watched Iron Man on Saturday... very silly indeed but totally enjoyable watching Robert Downey and Jeff Bridges chew up the scenery

  14. they from the BBC website quids? Some good stuff going on over there http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8367913.stm I like the suggestion that if the French are so embarrased, they offer to replay (as Wenger did a few years ago) and put FIFA on the spot Lot's of people pointing out that Robbie Keane lieks to use his arms to help control the ball a lot as well...
  15. but that doesn't make quids, keef et al wrong to wish it was different tho, right? I'm happy to use the incident last night (or the Eduardo dive a few months ago, or any other incident) as a line in the sand and say "look, no more. We (the author-ah-ties) are going to CONSISTENTLY penalise, retrospectively of we have to, cheating of this kind" But what I'm less keen on is for Henry to be singled-out when the like goes on week in and week out and pplayers, managers, and fans are happy to play the percentages, even if they know it is wrong
  16. where's a moderator when you need one eh?
  17. It was broken. Now it isn't. He wot broke it fixed it. And fessed up. Fair play
  18. I feel the need to repeat, yet again, I AM NOT standing up for Henry's bit of cheating
  19. I'm slightly surprised it's breaking down into Arsenal v non-Arsenal supporters as well - I'm definitely not saying anything just because he WAS (several years ago now!) an Arsenal player And I'm repeating - I'm not saying what he did was right. I'm just saying it's a bit of a stretch to say he's uniqueley at fault some how
  20. Has teh France v Ireland thread been buggered up by Matt's embedded link? I can't read my reply on 2 seperate browsers To answer quids questions on that thread 1) I'm inclined to believe most as makes no difference 2) Of course it doesn't mean it's ok 3) I think that rule isn't needed as it's pretty much what happens anyway - witness the jostling and pulling that goes on for every corner kick, or diving, etc etc. That still doesn't make it ok and I share your idealism to try and get rid But at no point did I say "don't worry eveyone is at it" - what I said was "before everyone piles into Henry, let's be aware that he isn't some rogue figure here" I believe the case is strong enough to warrant a replay btw - I think FIFA sanctioned one back in 2005 after a qualifier had some ridiculous referee decision, but I expect them to be rather quieter on this one
  21. zoiks - what have I started? Quids - Every point you make, I'm instictively on your side. I'm not trying to argue FOR any lowering of standards or acceptance of unsportsmanlike behaviour. I'm just saying that before everyone (phone ins, papers, commentriat, posters) lays the whole blame on Henry, some self-examination might also be in order. If you or Brendan say that in truth you would be inclined to own up, I believe you. But I genuinely don't think any player onthat pitch last night would have done things different to Henry, and that's a problem with the game and needs to be questioned - but Henry as a scapegoat I don't buy Mick - I don't know why you need to point out I don't speak for most Irish fans btw , I don't think I ever claimed to
  22. Seems to be a bit of hysteria around Henry - would anyone bat an eylid if the same thing happened if instead of Ireland, the same incident happened in, say Ukraine? The fact that none of the Irish players seemed to give Henry anything like a hard time suggests that if they were in his position, they too would have played the whistle and let the ref decide. I'm pretty sure he expected the whistle to go as soon as it happened Not a single footballer (or i suspect poster on here) would then have told the referee that no, they admit to handling the ball. It's fantasy land It doesn't make it any easier to accept we won't be playing in the world cup mind you.
  23. Speechless To go through the whole campaign unbeaten, lose first leg of a play off 1.0 and then go out to that goal? Speechless
  24. Be da hokey it's quite tense now wha?
