  1. which end of LL are you rainbow?
  2. Then I'm not sure what your point is - I've seen people berate staff in these small shops and I doubt very much they are interested in hearing about "economies of scale" or any suchlike "There's nothing nasty or greedy about wanting value for money." - it depends on what you consider value for money... If you know the corner shop charges more than a supermarket but can't be fagged to go to the supermarket, you have done the equation about the value of your time - why take it out on the staff? Wanting value for money dhoesn't give licence to behave badly - rainbow isn't complaining about people using his/her shop or enquiring about the reasons for the price differential - they are complaining about the uncivil behaviour that goes with it. Which seems fair enough to the ....
  3. DaveR - you clearly have never worked on the other side of a counter in South London!
  4. again, this isn't the Lounge. Can we try and stay on topic please?
  5. Not that I don't think it was a petty thing anyway, but the whole mugging grannies theory really doesn't work. You hear it all on the time on phone-ins But if police were to genuinely ignore all infractions of the law bar mugging old grannies you would be surprised how chaotic things would quickly become
  6. if he hadn't done it like, 100 times already ;-)
  7. rainbow - now I'm wondering which shop it is I suspect the problem you describe is a combination of factors Many people judge solely on price - some because they have to based on incomes, but more because that's what society teaches them to. They complain if something is cheaper somewhere else BUT also complain if their employer adopts the same value system
  8. red devil - it's no mantra of mine, I just said many people might ask it And even tho I work for "them" I trust them not a jot
  9. And many people would say "what's wrong with that"? I'm not sure why "free banking" is particular to this country tho.
  10. blimey, that was a blast from the past re-reading that lot!
  11. People... It's not the lounge
  12. the small shops next to the Mag(dala/nolia) pub
  13. If your printer doesn't have wifi, it will probably still be possible to locate it next to your wifi box and connect them via usb cables - then I can still print from any location my laptop is in
  14. It's 2011 and Ratty prepeare to write the longest "I told you so" post EVER.... So for the record I'm with ratty at this early stage. And whilst the Blair/Brown thing is done and needs to be swept away, I don't see anything to back up the statement "Gordon wants to penalise hard work and re-create class divides " And yes Brendan there are more than two choices, but given the current voting system the canny voter has to play the long game and not waste the vote
  15. It's a multi storey carpark. In Peckham. Pretty it ain't and the usual array of tinefoil and syringes were very visible when people went to the Campari Bar on the roof over the summer. Do you need to park there? Bus or walk is surely less hassle?
  16. I had you down as an anti-nanny-state type LadyMuck? Food waste is definitely Not A Good Thing, but I'm not sure where you would start with legislation, and fairly sure that enforcing any legislation would be time-consuming and expensive, to the detriment of other social ills It is but one symptom of a general over-consumption in "the west" - and I'm definitely as guilty as any. But I am looking at the root causes
  17. Think longer than 4 letters I'm guessing
  18. Nah. It's clockwork orange speak. Deliberately so as a slight satire on "the good ole days"
  19. Happy birthday Georgia And to other forum Asset
  20. always wanting to tolchock some veck aren't you Steve?
  21. In the "olde days" this would be deemed Lounge material And so it is now, back on topic, or Lounge-bound it is...
  22. Moos I think you are being a bit harsh there I know its' annoying when threads reappear, but when I post a link to an existing thread when this happens, it's usually to point out to people BEFORE they all go through the same litany, that they might want to see what others have said already. ie I'm not doing it to add fuel to the fire and I doubt candj is either
  23. mother in law is up that night - I'm trying to convince them to come out but she don't like curry (I know, I know) So that's me probably not making it but I'll keep trying
  24. My brother runs the Antigallican pub in Charlton and I often take the bus from there to Peckham and walk the rest of the way. That isn't how I'd want to end a night after a gig of course, but if all else fails in the post-gig rush it's worth bearing in mind
  25. I don't think you can judge Arsenal after just one game without RvP - more likely our usual post internationsl/November mehness if we win the game in had we are level points with Man U and superior goal diff - of course that game happens to be Chelsea so we'll see I don't think we'll do it this year, and the Sunderland result displayed the usual reasons why, but I'm not throwing away a season on teh back of that one result
