If i had kept a log of waiting times a year ago, and maintained it up to today I could indeed supply evidence I have said many times it may have nothing to do with Boris and most people on here would probably agree - so painting us al las loony Ken fans isn't very helpful But I can tell you that waiting times are definitely longer. The window between 7 and 7:30 am saw a 40 bus start it's journey from the library every 5 minutes. Of late I have waited 10-15 minutes most mornings. They wait until there are 3 or 4 backed up before setting off now

This has long been a bugbear of mine and I'm pretty much on the same page as Mockney - especially when he says "I gather the Earth is basically a huge engine, that must be harnessable surely, the Icelandics manage it, though they are a bit more volcanic than us. It can't really be much more difficult than building hundreds of huge platforms in middle of the ocean to suck black goop out from way under the ground can it?!?" But whilst governments will ultimately be responsible for delivering the momentum, incentives and cash, we as a society have to stop voting the buggers out everytime they try and persuade us to ease off a little whilst we buy some breathing space in the research area. We have to stop bleating everytime someone tries to persuade us out of cars and into public transport (yes, even if the public transport isn't great). Ditto complaining about disappearing cheap flights and or tax on same ("I bought a flight for a fiver and do you know what? I had to pay 10 times that in tax!!!") Any parent with a tight budget and children knows that the orange squash (or whatever) is the first to be consumed from the weekly shop and then there are tears until the supply is replenished next week. When it comes to the environment we appear to be the children, there are no parents and there is no next week... so the parental advice "save some for later" is one we should heed sooner rather than later. But I suspect most people will just adopt the easily word mantle of "the government are just taxing us.. or they will waste the money.. .or.... "etc etc. Anything but face up to the orange squash running out

oops - I missed the sport ref in the OP - sorry lard. But you are still correct - it's no place to watch sport for that very reason. A coupl eof us have tried to talk to the manager about it - I think given that he can't have both music and sport concurrently he is reluctant to just have sport.. shame because it would be a good spot otherwise
-
true lard, true - but did you post that in the wrong thread?

rather cynical Steve isn't it? I thought beatnic's post was really useful and even tho I know what twitter is anyway it managed to convey it's potential usefulness in a way I haven't previously seen. Wish I knew about the London Bridge one for example - I've been caught by that fekker a few times!

Tis true eliz and we have all had to do it at some point - I remember how nervous I was. Some tips Most of the faces you see on the flickr groups that get posted in the drinks threads appear most times - so you should be able to spot at least one of them If you arrive after 9pm it is probable that we are the largest group in the pub as well PM a poster you think is going and like the sound of - I have given my mobile for people to text in case they turn up and want to text to say "who are you"?

I know - shocking isn't it? But wait - isn't that when people hark back to a golden age of 2 deliveries a day and a postie being able to stop and chatter? Do people want efficiencies really? (I don't - not always anyway) -

Christmas Trees on Uplands Road.
SeanMacGabhann replied to SCSB79's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Does anyone plant their tree in the garden after Christmas and re-use them, or does everyone chip/dump them ? -
We only have carolyn's account to go by - and if we doubt that aspect of it then who is to say the cyclist did those things as well? But other than that I'm generally on the side of bus drivers when people start to have an easy pop - and that was a good typical quote you pull out too keef - as I say, if I was doing that job I can see myself seeing the red mist descend and this isn't on either blinder: I have seen far more passengers abuse drivers than the other way around. On a typical day, if we see a driver lose it, that is one of 2 drivers we see, so of course we remember it. When they see passengers lose it, how many of them do you think a driver sees in a day? 5? 10, Dozens?

EDF Drinks at The Phoenix this Friday 9th January

Warning: Arsenal fans may be present BookOf ;-) -
jimbob - I'm normally on the bus driver's side in any of these "ed bandwagon" debates - and I've already said culpability for any incident is shared. However, even if I focus on every point you have pulled out, that doesn not in any way let the driver off the hook for trying to run him into the kerb or punching him in the face... (even if I suspect that if I was doing that job I can easily seeing that driver being me!)

EDF Drinks for 2009 - venue ideas
SeanMacGabhann replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in The Lounge
I'm voting for Keef's Clockhouse idea. Partly because I think I thought of it in a previous summer and partly because I got burned at the picnic-organising thing as well! -
Royal Mail - Sorry, you were out
SeanMacGabhann replied to Dez's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I heard a couple of callers from different parts of London complain about exactly the same thing today on the BBC - so it's not our local posties in ED -
The time and route should help the busco track him down Most accidents involve some culpability on both sides, but there is no excuse for what the driver did
