  1. any chance this can go back to the Adventure Bar lest it be lounged?
  2. Happy memories from 2006 End of the Road festival - yes it is that uncrowded! Plus a bonus Life Aquatic person on stage!
  3. If only the Evening Standard WAS bought and run down by a paper somewhere else...
  4. because rumour and speculation can have very real impact on people's lives perhaps? Also, it means that anyone with an agenda can start a campaign (I'm not accusing Sue of this btw )
  5. 5 replies and no mention of "woo" woo woo woowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoo Load of arse And I can say that as I'm a Libran and like calm and balance. Only when I tell people I'm a Libran do they say "ooh you can tell" - before I tell people it's normally about 7 guesses. Big pile of arsey woo 12 types of personality combination???? * bites fist *
  6. I'm loving this whole idea MrBen - good on ya [pedantic bit] Should this now be setup in it's own thread in the Lounge mebbe?
  7. " I don't like facts and logic - they tend to cloud my judgement" London cabbie circa 2005
  8. very good PGC *smiles* Ok - back on topic - shops at the Plough end of LL. * goes all serious *
  9. topic people, topic..
  10. It might be true about having the wrong friends Asset but not only am I asked that all the time, with the words "don't be selfish" verbatim... "give her what she wants" from someone else (stop it at the back!), and a host of others ..... and now.... as well as those, I'm also "defensive"! I can't win!
  11. I'll not have Nisha's store described as non-descript! She's a gem. And she will be gone if Tesco's does open. I know this because she has shown me her plans and asks me on a regular basis. If tesco does open, what will we actually get? An over-refrigerated, over-priced selection of the smae stuff as the convenience stores with teh odd bit of watery beef/chicken thrown in*. Not enough of a "win" for me I'm afraid. And I will have lost one of the nices shopkeepers in Dulwich Add to that extra traffic generated by lorries to the store. What else? oh yeah, generic blue-and-white-o-vision store frontage. I would honestly honestly rather have 5 more vase-and-cushion-shops than a Teco there *ok some things will be cheaper, but on balance?
  12. as for which bits of the chicken/lamb whatever end up in the buffet, it's probably: a) only along similar lines to what people are mosre used to eating in Asia anyway b) preferable to the factory floor scrapings used in 4 burgers for a pound type outlets...
  13. I remember when these lights were being blamed on Ken... ho hum...
  14. And then there is FIFA/UEFA cracking down on racism - hard!!! what was the fine for the monkey noises in from Croatia fans against Heskey the other week? 15k or something - pathetic
  15. I think on the previous page I had made the same case as you - I think I used the term "will give you an advantage over everyone else after the same thing" for those who can write and speak proper-like I don't really mind either disadvantaged or disabled - I wouldn't call either taboo. Similarly with childfree and childless - but I can see how they mean slightly different things Phew - to recap - I wasn't actually picking you up on anything - just referencing a similar thread from yesterday - or so I thought! Right - I'm off now...
  16. well it depends on which gospel youread and how you interpret them - I would almost be impressed if people chanting the above had read the lines: "Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. " and surmised - yep, definitely hanging. I would argue that at least the younger members of the crowd satisfy themselves that it's what happens to uppity folk in the wrong part of town... But let's say they are referring to Judas - hey, it proves James' point! racism = less acceptable than homophobia! ;-)
  17. sorry Moos - I was being slightly obtuse and referring to you differentiating between the terms "childless" v "childfree" and wondering if disabled had negative connotations that disadvantaged doesn't when yuo wrote: I'm not in disagreement with your points by the way - just being slightly pedantic
  18. over to the music thread with this one surely?? (Some decent singles and mostly dreadful albums. Despite Tony Visconti's involvement) As for the Sol Campbell reference - when Spurs fans sing (to the tune of Lord of the Dance) : Sol, Sol, wherever you may be, Not long now til lunacy, And we couldn't give a f***, When you're hanging from a tree, Judas **** with HIV. ---------------------------- Does that underline James' point? Or is it acceptable football/social banter? Should it not be challenged?
  19. The recent reports about the abuse Sol Campbell received from Spurs fans at Portsmouth has been illuminating - not because it's news (it's being going on for ever) but because fans who claim to not be racist ("we cheered Defoe - how can we be racist?") use very specific racist and homophobic references to deride someonem, which is what this thread is about. They could (if they are still childishly upset about his defection 7 feckin years ago!!!) call him a traitor, disloyal, etc but instead they - in front of children, and on a weekly basis - make KKK references and HIV references as a way of calling someone, to use Jame's term, "shit" Does no-one think that at least some of those kids will absorb the notion that maybe black peolpe and gay people deserve everything they get? Despite protestations to the contrary I don't think the adults are that clear... Sol Campbell and some fans reactions
  20. "disabled" Moos? Or at a disadvantage?
  21. Unless it's those very same cameras which are compromised and used to record PIN usage? My own experience is that people giving back the "wrong change - sorry luv" was much much more prevealent 15-20 years ago - it used to happen once a week to me whereas in the last few years I can't think of a single occurence
  22. For as long as I have been banking, the front line staff have always been very junior, badly-paid and variable in quality. Paying in books - inconvenient and a faff as it is for you Steve, you don't NEED them do you? You can still pay in with a standard slip right? As with any business with shareholders, the care and attention people hark back to were expensive overheads. The alternatives (mutual building societies) were all voted by their ordinary customers to become banks for a few shekels, whenever the opportunity was presented. In any case it's still a lot better than the old days where if you didn't get your money out on a Friday, that was your lot for the weekend...
  23. Not sure what's happened but I couldn't find this thread this morning so have started another Err... I'll be there about 8:30 - who else is coming?
  24. That is the most suspicious edit i have ever seen!
  25. Jah - that sounds like a lot of hand-holding and reassuring....
