Actually - now that I have read some more of this country's good folk post on various forums on this topic I have lost the will to live. Mission accomplished - pages and pages and pages and pages of hate-filled venom over trifling amounts in the bigger scheme of things ah well - time for The 2 minute hate

sorry PGC - I think it was a cross-post with yours - not a response The only story is the council's ineptitude - everything else is just legal isn't it? I believe as of April this year there is some legal requirement about rooms/child - but I could be wrong In any case I don't see what she has done wrong - but I can see that this is the usual suspects stirring up the usual fearmongering. If it was someone on here's mother most people would say "good luck to em" I mean, I agree with you to a large extent PGC - but the story isn't asking that question is it?
-
So to clarify: As banks fuck up globally and require taxpayers across the world to bail everyone out (possibly) to the tune of hundreds of billions, the Daily Mail and the Sun WITH NO AGENDA WHATSOEVER scrape up a story they could probably publish on any day of any year, probably exaggerate the figures (anyone want to outline just how anyone can get that 170k in benefits hmmmm?) Just what is it that makes story like this wind some people up so badly. I know there are plenty of people who deserve to be bumped up waiting lists and they have lived here for blah blah blah - but what has THIS story got to do with any of that? It's a distraction is all.. Even if it were 100% true (and do watch the development of this - it just won't be) it's a tiny firework to distract everyone. But are people upset because The council isn't very good at allocating money? The council isn't very good at sourcing a bargain? the woman is foreign? She is harbouring a paedophile? (ok that bit isn't true - but you get the impression some people WANT it to be true) Is it news REALLY that distribution of money is not what it could be?

I think it's a Sun headline I think if you google the mothers name on the Interweb it throws up the usual suspects - BNP/Sun/Mail On the face of it it does seem very odd admittedly - but I suspect there is more to the story than is being reported - but fuck it eh? let's get all indignant... we're British after all.

Now that you mention it there is a touch of passive-aggressive about it isn't there? (although in my defense on this occassion - what I had written was deleted in favour of the above - for reasons of decency)

Anyone else on the 40 bus this morning (and other bus issues)
SeanMacGabhann replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
Clare - I usually get a 40 by the Plough. I always look out for a 176 or 185 however because they can whisk a lot of people from the Q before the 40 kicks off it's journey and most mornings I can say at least 176 has arrived before a 40 - and I'm normally never waiting more than 5 mins. this would be about 7:20am? That said: 1) the roadworks along LL are playing havoc with toutes as soon as teh road gets busier 2) just this week, I have noticed fewer buses come along -
the call to Admin re: a DMZ was (as I hope you realise!) a joke, based on your Vietnam references.. Although the Family section IS looking fairly peaceful

Anyone else on the 40 bus this morning (and other bus issues)
SeanMacGabhann replied to Sue's topic in The Lounge
Sorry Sue - because the thread is about bus grievances now. The thread title was amended as per Admin's Forum Rules for clarity of the last 2 posts you mention, one was about the incident and one was about Walworth Rd and 176. After 2 pages it seems clear that it's no longer about the 40 or ED but If the whole thread comes back to the incident it can always be de-Lounged? Jeremy - agreed. I would always expect car journeys to be quicker than bus journeys. So when I listen to any London phone in I jsut wish I heard more bus passengers complain and fewer drivers -

I have noticed something about driving speeds in London When discussed as a concept they are uniformly appalling - congestion, other drivers, buses, roadworks etc all mean that, according to what I hear, driving in London is a NIGHTMARE! until... until.. When compared to buses, apparently all journeys by car suddenly become graceful, hop-skip-and-a-jump journeys in glorious sunshine that never take more than 20 minutes All I'm saying is - both of these things can't be right -
Nice offer CamberwellOz - let me know how much interest you get I would need a bigger kitchen before I could offer to do the same mind you

Admin - you might need to build a DMZ at this rate

No point arguing if I agree with much of what you say Jeremy! Mostly I'm agreeing with Asset at the moment - this thread isn't ED specific is it? -

Some of those things are true Jeremy - but several bus stops on LL have the dot matrix displays - by the Co-op chemist near Budgens for example. And on the main routes they are so much more frequent these days I never worry - and some days I have to catch a 5:30am bus to Waterloo The main thing that vexes me about buses is if Ihaven't got something to read - if I have something then I can tune everything out until I get wherever I'm going. If I don't have anything then pretty much everything can annoy me But overall I like them - they get me everywhere I want to go cheaply -

Caught 2 40's yesterday. And a 45 for good measure. No problems on any of them. Again Very occasionally something weird as described above happens - I usually decide it isn't the end of the world -
Madworld I'll not make any claims for it being a good idea or anything and it might die on it's arse - BUT when you say I though I had addressed that earlier in the thread? I started it because someone I had never met, never PM's, have no connection with AT ALL, who has posted occasionally, suddenly started posting these delightful little episodes. I thought that was great. Can you please explain to me how that is any evidence of an "inner sanctum" or "pals" getting together? Put it another way - if several of the posters on this thread post a lot, but many of whom have never met, can post with grace and wit, why is it that someone I HAVE met, and usually seems happy enough to meet, endlessly talks of alienation and inner sanctums? What are your thoughts on Ted's posts? is there someone else you think people overlook and want to nominate? Join in if you like, don't if you don't - but why knock those that do - especially with made up falsehoods, and then calling it an "observation"?

Nunhead / Peckham Rye ward chaos
SeanMacGabhann replied to AllforNun's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
PeckhamRose What about some of the arguments against? 1) having more roads open will encourage more traffic which in turn will feed on to Evelina Rd leading to the same situation on Evelina but with corresponding problems on previously tranquil and safe roads? 2) Even if there is no rise in overall traffic, would all residents of these roads be happy with their roads being opened up? As council-tax payers are their wishes not to be heard by the council? -
It's crazy but it just might work!

He's nicer than you are - bring him along! Hoopers works for me - but if people are seriously going to bring up the whole "is it in ED" debate again I may top myself
