Well, action may be required but unless we agree what the action should be it'll be fairly shambolic I agree noise levels have increased and it can affect my sleep. But I don't think "spreading" the pain will solve anything. Pretty sure that resident in the north and west feel the way we in the south do too Do these people have the right idea? http://www.stopstanstedexpansion.com/ Are they not just doing what is proposed here? But if they are successful won't that have a knock on for us? So are they right or worng? The only thing that will reduce noise levels for everyone is a reduction in air traffic - and that begs the question - are you prepared to do your bit and not travel or travel less? Anything else really is nimbyism surely?

Adventure bar - East Dulwich (Lounged when no longer about same)

I did wonder aloud on the opening night (not that I could be heard) if there was a tunnel from Foxton's to the bar.. I have pulled my punches about the place tho, as Toby did spend a lot of time putting his case forwward on here so fair play to him for that. But I do get why some people express themselves so... elequantly -

pretty much agree 100% Cassius. I do hope people take to it tho' - it could be just the alternative many people are looking for (albeit not in an Inside 72 alternative way...) -
This - althought I'm not sure I'm quite as supportive after his handling of Barton It could also be argued that he needed to bring some of his methods up to date - although if it turned out that the person doing my scouting for me was Dennis f@@@ing Wise I might reconsider that as well....

;-) I wasn't impressed with the place either - but as I've said, I doubt it's aimed at people like me Only thing I will say in it's defence (well, not even that... more of a correction really) is that it's not a corporate mega chain - the guys behind it independantly run 3 bars in SOuth London but it's not part of any "group" I thought I would give it another try on a Sat afternoon to see if it had at least a chilled afternoon vibe going - nope - they don't even open on afternoons. So zero chance of me going back there again -
way to go for your first post delinquent - and already several threads on the same bar May I suggest any further rants be posted: here

On BBC London this morning they were promoting next week's leave a car at home day Predictably some people contacted them to say things like "If I drive it takes half an hour and costs a fiver - if I take the bus it takes 2 hours and costs ?8" What idiot pays ?8 for a day's bus journey(s) - my weekly pass costs about ?14 - so that's my travel for the week pegged at ?2 a day - bargain I accept that most journeys will be quicker by car but it's a lost battle if car drivers delude themselves with costings like that -

Interesting how expectations were low for Adventure bar and (at least as far as people posting on here goes) those expectations were proved correct but some similarly low expectations for the Mag has resulted in several people revising their opinion once visited So - the Mag for the forum drinks after this week's bash at the Duke? -
I'm not experiencing any Forefox problems and am (ooh surprise!) a heavy user. I will give Chrome a go when I'm at home (work is blocking it I think) but I also use Safari (I like they way it renders pages in a 'softer' fashion) and mini-Opera so I'm no loyalist

When I moved to ED at the turn of the century, I was looking forward to having just an 11 minute journey. And I did the train for about a year. I used to look at people getting on the bus at ED station and think "why????". I used to get a seat on the train but what stopped me was a combination of: Train cancellations 4 carriages instead of 8 turning up The journey TO the station wasn't inconsiderable 11 minutes is no time for reading and then I had to get from London Bridge to where I was going anyway In the end I settled for the bus of for a number of reasons: 40 bus is pretty empty when I get on early in the morning. Door to door takes about 45 minutes if I stay on the bus all the way to town but I've gotten in to the habit of walking from E&C... On the rare occassions when traffic is doing something weird I now know that it's just an extra couple of hundred yards to walk - amount of stress = zero. Ever I like the idea of cycling generally but for many of the reasons already outlined by Moos and others I think "naaah" As for Moo's horrible experience yesterday. I would normally commiserate a lot more if I wasn't implicated ;-) -

I popped my head in last night to have a chat with Rose about the upstairs function room and you can colour me impressed By no means do I think it would appeal to a WAG community - it does have floral wallpaper on the bar but the rest of the decor is almost austere. Those tables mentioned in previous posts do add an element of school-hall to the place but I prefer to think of it more like the drinking halls of Bavaria It remains to be seen what's going to happen to the kitchen area at the rear but for now I say it has a lot of potential and everyone should give it a go -
I did watch it Moos - I was quite excited at the time but when it came around.... I just didn't warm to it

but look what happened when they DID!!!!

Everyone can come Jennifer - be good to meet you -
I've got series 3 of Deadwood waiting for me at home - can't wait. Only thing is... Lady Mac doesn't like it at all so I have to "find the right time" to watch it properly Have people watched Six Feet Under? Loved that but missed the final series Oh and it's Wire night tonight- another episode on FX - that leaves just 2 I think...
-
Quids yes yes yes - I've already held my hands up and said I was defensive... sorry again! Although in my defence (m'lud) it's not about SE22 I get defensive - it's....... ohh... never mind Gab - no one cares Loving Modern Romance for Adventure Bar and the Pogues for Thomas More. And I liked Keef's first attempt at the Bishop. And the Stone Roses = definitely overrated. But the Pixies??.. I came close to a flounce!
-
cool, Keef.. If East Dulwich was a band I get the impression it would be close to splitting up due to "musical differences"
-
Plus I get the impression the Threshers staff thing was aimed at me and I've never said anything about them!!! AND I have carried on with the thread title Ok so now I'm being a bit defensive...
-
We watched Sunshine last night - another Danny Boyle film directed from an Alex Garland script (see also 28 Days Later) Lady Mac is always "resistant" to sci-fi flicks anyway, and this one is a slow build. But a terrific film. Based on board a Manhattan-sized carrier, bound for the sun to re-ignite that dying star, these 8 people represent mankinds last chance... As well as teh narrative it manages to incorportae several 21st century concerns - and even if it does become melodramatic at the end, it's still a great film. And gorgeous to look at

"fun" is such a middle-class luxury ;-) Maybe rather than a band for a whole area - it's a fesival with differennt bands representing different parts/roads/establishments? The Streets could represent Betfred Iggy Pop for The Drum etc etc
-
Not sure it's a thread that can work - I mean, a whole suburban area reduced to banal indie bands... but to play along with the concept a little bit, and to extend it further.. If you could change ED to be more like a better band than any of the dullards mention, who would it be, and which areas are aready like that? As for quids decription of Coldplay, not a lot wrong with being nice and decent. Can't see much wrong with BEING middle-class either. Coldplay's problem is shit songs... Oh I've just realised! This isn't a thread about any of those things - it's just another tiresome excercise in easy mockery/flaggelation! Doh....
-
Funny then how none of those bands get a look in on the music threads. .
-
If it happened so often you would be an easily pleased man. . . And even then you would be right. But if its a rare event i raise my glass to you sir
