  1. Actually, I have thought of one difference about those shops (or their owners)....but I doubt it's behind the Telegraph's selection
  2. I share the concern about G&B's tactic but the bottom line remains, it isn't THEIR fault How could it be? There is a drainage issue, affecting the business they depend on adn wichever way they turn they are blocked.... How would any of us feel in that situation? What would you actually DO next?
  3. Bottom line is: No matter what decision is made SOMEONE is going to lose out. A consultation excercise is going to be useful to flush out the interested parties and examine the different permutations but you can't appease every interested party (some of which overlap on the Venn diagram). As a society we do want our cake and eat it and we are NOT very good at being told "no". To anything. You don't need to live in a major city to have to accomodate flight path noise - airports everywhere are expanding. A small village in rural Devon is no guarantee of peace and quiet. I love travelling but have taken the decision to avoid airports whereever possible. As I'm being herded around I feel much like I suspect a cow does when it's about to be taken to the slaughter. I don't mean I'm going to be killed, just a feeling in my bones about what life will be like in the future
  4. How in the name of all thats good and holy could you argue that the cheese block doesnt fit the same demographic?
  5. more converts, more!
  6. that's the scene where things start to click for a lot of people... ep 4 I think isn't it?
  7. I've never spent much time on Facebook at all - even before work blocked it I appreciate what it does but 2 things have caused me to think about closing my account 1) - the article highlighted at the start of the thread didn't contain any surprises - but it did make me reflect 2) - it was fine when it was a clean space but since everyone is busy sending sparkling new year messages and all the flim flam mini apps, and then al lteh adverts, it's now even messier than Myspace - and that is saying something oh but wait it's impossible close and account - sheeeeeeit
  8. bumping because I know at least 2 forumites have started series 1...
  9. oh Ant - that's like catnip to some people "I often see the restuarants and bars emty as well, we should close them down too" etc etc ignoring the fact that they are often rammed as well (and therefore a very different proposition to betting shops)
  10. oh go on then - as I'm in the mood for this sort of thing Play it loud
  11. Oh those Floyd numbers transported me immediately to winter, 1983, wave-lashed seaside town. Me, a mate, a portable cassette-player listening to this at all hours.... wow - very evocative if only I COULD find Portuguese cover version of it As someone mention the K&D sessions the other day - my favourite (and probably most familiar one..) K&D - Useless
  12. I now have an image of Michael's router being in a room a bit like this (the bit after she goes behind the red door)
  13. Jah - made my day that did... nice one How about some laid back Portuguese cover versions?
  14. I have maintained a strict "no comment" policy since that day as well DM You were wrong about one thing tho' - I do still respect you
  15. can't agree about Russell Brand being overrated - if anything his stand-up in under-rated. Although I have heard nothing but bad things about the DVD from other fans so I won't defend that Jah this piece about the Sun remains a fave of mine he is massively over-exposed tho
  16. Lot's of ones to agree with on here. Hot Fuzz finally got watched last week and I loved it but "meaty-smelling linen"???
  17. The worst trip back was around the Labour conference in Bournemouth this year - a whole carriage of junior lackeys simply hugging themselves to death. But making lots of noise too
  18. how the hell did "I" get dragged into this? tcha - but yes, more people, more coo-ing. I was in Black Cherry a few weeks back on a busy Sat night, supping some pureed chips through a straw. Mrs Mockney got talking to some Mancs an asked what they weere down for. They said just a weekend in London - so she said fair enough but why ED.. They said the area is now well know around the country as a top night out...
  19. oooh I do that train journey every other week Mike - I usually catch the 7:35am... I don't mind the morning but on the way back I start to ponder if 6 hours travelling is that life-enhancing
  20. agree with you wee quinned on the nomination but disagree that no-one mentions it It's gets a lot of love whenever there is a "best of" type discussion
  21. you'll see many of us in the photo links from past drinks. They are on the forum somewhere (I would normally post a link but work prevents me from digging around for them) The Dog is actually quite a big venue - are we booking a seperate section? That'll help newcomers if can say go to the left hand bar or whatever It is still the most nervous I have been in years - the first time I had to actually ask "scuse me are you the EDF" a year ago at the CPT
  22. PeckhamGateCrasher beat me to it.... I must check out the youtube clips at some point
  23. and B isn't even close to P on a keyboard!
  24. I've always assumed the guy with the moustache was Mr Nisha but I don't know his name - I'm going to ask about the whole situation next time I go in (I can then put it on the achievements thread!) Estate agents - well, I can't imagine a situation where I would use them often enough to recommend any - but had great service from Bushells when I bought my flat (I know lots of people haven't but just sayin....)
  25. I re-read my "correction" and it sounds like I was indeed correcting you - but I wasn't - i was genuinely curious as to who if anyone is called Val. Still am in fact...
