God, that WOMAN!!! Not sure scary is the right word but pain in the hole she most certainly is... what did she say today that wound me up?? summat about how M&S shouldn't sell real food and should focus on ready meals. Which is an opinion that people hold - but not always one that she holds all the time She vacillates all the time.... but my opinion of her is constant And cha1ie - some warning for non-broadband forumites please!!!!

I can say that I started the day well, when I tried to take a glass of whiskey onto a night bus and was severly reprimanded - I left it for my friends... ;-) After that I achieved very little. Oh hang on - I won several games of pool on the trot Communicated with Lady MacGabhann on t'other side of world read the Sindy and Observer walked a LOT did a major clean-up of the flat put the world to rights (daily, that one ;-) )

Mike P's ability to pick up any thread and carry it into the Quiet Room astounds me! ;-)

???? Fair dues in some respects but where does the why is "er, I was talking to Brendan" insulting?????? come from. Who said it was insulting? T'was only because you felt the need to post it to those of us not christened Brendan that I picked up on it and the IC's COULD be construed as easily as patronising - but I see where you were going Like I say - I think there is less disagreement than has become seemingly apparent I agree with PGC - let;s all feel the love

Green and Blue closure?

G&B fought the landlord very hard to even get the extended premises - they wanted a corporate client (think maccie d's, Starbucks, Costa etc) My suspicion is they are doing the bare minimum to assist G&B, out of spite. If it was a coprorate name with the same problem they would have bent over backwards to sort it out That is an opinion and not based on any evidence or facts. -
then talk to Brendan and don't post on a public thread? And spell his name right? and why am I doing that Australian thing? *deep breath* I suspect there is more common ground here than this argument is allowing - people have adopted a b&W stance and made things personal - as soon as we cool off it'll all be fine

I have to say the Arsenal result clouded my day and whilst I new Man Utd would win and go top, I didn't need them to increas their goal difference by THAT much If only we could have played Newcastle when they are going through such a bad phase... oh now wait - we did and only drew! Which is our problem at the moment - we should have annihilated at least 3 teams this season but we seem to be very content with missing 20 chances, safe in the knowledge that another one will come along and we'll score from that Great when it works - not so good in the last 4-5 weeks

That was a BBC job from early 90's - now available on DVD

oh dear - and to think I have to sit on the same side as ???? after that post I don't even know what "You seem to like being Forum Sherrif on behalf of all 'those who are struggling with a financial problem' - were you voted inarticulate and insulting spokesman on their behalf or are you just taking on that roll in a rather patronising 'sticking up for the poor dears' manner?" means... I mean, I GET that "Forum Sherrif" is meant to be some kind of put down - but why you want to put down someone who makes legitimate post about poverty and the situation that millions of people are in I'm not sure Then we have "inarticulate" - can we have a show of hands please for everyone who thinks Brendan (i had mistakenly thought it was aimed at Mockney Piers) is inarticulate..... I'll wait..... still waiting.... oops, no just you ???? calling someone patronising mere pixels before the phrase 'sticking up for the poor dears' redefines irony ???? - I agree with your original and basic point that for many people, bank charges are avoidable - beyond that however...

Tillie was talking about the re-release of Penny Lane/ Strawberry fields forever in 1975 - which DID get to #1

obviously people have to be careful with spoiler - I very nearly did the finale to LoM as soon as you mentioned it! flawed tho it was (the reset button was hit every week on any lessons learned in the last episode for example) I really enjoyed watching the whole thing. But no, I wouldn't want the real world to regress back to the Gene Hunt's of the world - as an Irishman I'd be f***ed for a start And the sequel - Ashes to Ashes - worries me. But I'll give it a go And yes you are officially next up for Series 1 boxset of t'Wire But no more posting without adding some TV gold - I miss this series very very much - this is the news! Day Today (why haven't news producers gleaned ANYTHING from this???)

sure geez, just let me finish the problem page in The People yeah? oh and 2 sugars love...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall a TV equivalent of the music room/cinema/book threads, so I thought I'd clear some bandwith for TV moments 2 to start I know Gervais annoys people as much as he entertains others but for me, this was the TV highlight of the Christmas schedules - in fact, of the year Celeb Culture And, as I've relentlessly banged on about it, the first ever scene in The Wire Snot Boogy nothing comes of the scene but it sets the stall out for the show - the up and downside of the American Dream...good guys and bad guys not in diametrically opposed positions...

bleedin 'ell Atila - that almost contrition on your part!

Brilliant DM! - The best encapsulation yet of how people miss the point. Great to see the article and glad things are coming along nicely By the way, I hope that the recent refurb of The Bridge House in Penge by the owners of The Rye put plenty of work your way... ;-)

feeling a bit "emotional" today and this song has been running up and down the stairs of my mind today (unbidden - I haven't had it on or anything.... The Smiths - Ask It's easy lilt disguising the lyric "Shyness is nice - and shyness can stop you. From doing all the things you'd like to" or "Nature is a language, can't you read?" oh dear - I'm off again

benjaminty - it took this thread to make you think meeting us at a drink was ok? tchaa ;-) I haven't mentions Val's grocer because I've done it a million times on other threads but I'm really glad lozzyloz has... it's not so much the shop, or the stock... it's all down to Nisha for me. Although they have a couple of younger guys working in there who have recently started and are very sweet - just need to come out of their shells a bit (Loz: is Val from Val's the proprietor or something - or did you mean Nisha? - just curious because I don't know anyone elses name in there)

Is the comedy night in EDT any good?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Crepe Suzette's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I often find myself laughing much less at Stewart lee gig's than others - but as interesting and humorous people are in shorter supply than most others it's an exchange I'm more than happy to make As much as I go to comedy clubs it's isn't always laughter I'm after. As one of the few art-forms left which isn't directly open to outside interference, where someone can basically say what they want and STILL get paid I cherish intelligence and humour and wit more than gag-merchants "The very CONCEPT that the Carphone Warehouse has values other than sell phones...." The show resonates much more than at-the-time-hilarious acts. And rewards multiple viewings wheras I often hear people complaining that other comics repeat jokes all the time.. because, heard once, that's it All my own views of course... they don't represent those of The East Dulwich Forum -
I hope Lizzy is reading this as I'm going to disagree with "the gang" and agree with ????'s basic point Firstly however, I want to agree with the general point about bank's avarice, unhelpfulness and general f***wittery, be it overt or underhand - and the millions of poor that Mockney refers to ARE exploited and anythingelse I say is not a defence of banking practice I also speak as someone who has an appalling record with money - my first salary when I arrived in England was 2,700 quid a year and although much improved my habits haven't. Basically, I spent more than I earn habitually - this is no-one's fault but my own and I mention it only to say that I believe a large percentage of us in this country do the exact same. So I would separate the argument about exploitation of the poor AND the general mismanagement of money (for now.... but let's return to the poor argument later) Keef's dentist story sent shivers down my spine because I have done the exact same many, many times. But it is only in the last year I have realised that most of this is my own fault. When I don't have dental bills, or when I don't have rent arrears or when I don't have vet bills... have I ever used the slack to put money aside for a rainy day? Nope... with all the posters on here who have told of arguments with the bank to limit overdrafts and cards etc - it suggests that other people have cottoned on to this fact long before me and validated ????'s point. We know we are weak and we know who will profit from that weakness... that doesn't excuse our own rage when we, once again, do something we know we shouldn't As for 5 million on the breadline - we should be arguing about how to solve that problem more generally - not just how the banks exploit them. Many of those people are in full-time jobs. Many of them are in multiple jobs. How can we reward people like this so they have a figting chance against the banks?

indeed Adam, I'm often to be found there too. Went with some chums last night and were unfortunate to encounter pretty mediocre compere and first act - but then an hour of Stewart Lee was genius. (not everyone in the group agreed but then again Lee's stuff will divide opinion) He did about 2/3rds of his most recent show http://www.stewartlee.co.uk/press/41stbeststandup/2007-july-21-swsl.htm I would pay money to see it again today
